Hammond Representative Chris Broadwater’s legislation that would allow state colleges to raise fees for students advances from the state House. Broadwater says his bill would only make it easier for colleges to raise fees, within certain limits, and not affect tuition or TOPS whatsoever. The measure passed on a 79-14 vote and now heads to the Senate.

The American Automobile Association expects more Americans to hit the road this Memorial Day weekend than they have in the last decade. Spokesman Don Redman says over 37 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles from home for the holiday. New Orleans is among five cities that have been invited to bid to host the 2019 and 2020 Super Bowls. Atlanta, Miami, Tampa, and Los Angeles have also received invitations to bid.
