A special advisory has been issued by State Police and the Baton Rouge Police Department over a missing two year old girl whose mother was found murdered. BRPD spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely says in addition to trying to locate A’Kyleana Lathan, they are also investigating the murder of the mother. He says Taylor Lathan is originally from Texas and she and her daughter moved to Baton Rouge a few months ago…:

An arrest has been made in the case of the baby who was found dead under garbage bags in a trash compactor at a Slidell Apartment Complex Monday morning. Authorities were working to determine whether the child was alive or not when abandoned inside the compactor. The Slidell Pplice Chief and the St. Tammany Parish Coroner will be holding a press conference with additional details at 1pm.

Tow items of legislation to raise certain taxes for road and bridge projects in the state clear the House Ways and Means Committee this morning. One of the bills by Plaquemine Representative Karen St. Germain would put billions into roadwork with one-cent sales tax hike and the other would increase the state gas tax by 10 cents for the improvements.

It has been announced that Governor Bobby Jindal has another book coming out in October. The book is entitled “American Will: The Forgotten Choices That Changed Our Republic.” ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says that while this book’s subject matter is history, this is really a campaign move…:

This morning former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee officially announced he’s running for the GOP president nomination. Jindal has previously said he would wait until after the current legislative session ends June 11th before making an announcement.
