The Senate Education committee approves a bill that would prohibit the suspension or expulsion of a student between Kindergarten and third grade, unless the child poses a safety threat. The author of the measure, Baton Rouge Senator Sharon Weston Broome, says when you send a child home at such a young age, they aren’t getting an opportunity to learn. The full senate will debate the bill next.
