This afternoon Governor Edwards announced that he’s vetoed 28 pieces of legislation from the 2021 regular session. Two high profile bills, the ability to conceal carry without a permit and legislation to keep transgender females from competing in women’s’ sports are among the 28 vetoed If lawmakers agree to hold a historic veto session it would be held July 20th.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding people to practice extreme caution if they plan on using fireworks this holiday weekend. Office Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says be sure to keep a water source handy in case things get out of control. Once you’re finished with your fireworks, Rodrigue says to dispose of them properly.

And never allow children to handle fireworks.

Did you know that the 4th of July is when most pets go missing due to running away from fireworks. Louisiana SPCA Spokesperson Rebecca Melanson says if you live near a fireworks display keep your pet inside and play white noise or music to calm your pet. Also make sure your pet is properly tagged.
