The United Cajun Navy is in Texas helping with the search and rescue operation in the Texas Hill Country, where more than 100 people have been killed in flash floods. Vice President Brian Trascher says they’re sending people with very specific backgrounds to the scene.

Slidell Police say a six-year-old child was severely injured after attacked by the family’s pit bull, which was temporarily chained in the backyard at the time of the incident. The child was airlifted to a New Orleans hospital and Slidell Police has taken possession of the dog.

A Louisiana Tech student from Alexandria is being hailed a hero after helping lead 14 young campers to safety during deadly flash floods in central Texas. Emma Foltz, a counselor at Camp Mystic near Kerrville, acted quickly as rising waters flooded cabins on July 4th. Louisiana Tech President Jim Henderson says he couldn’t be prouder.

They are one of three school systems to have more than 50-percent of their students achieve total mastery-plus. More information is coming out about the St. Gabriel Police Officer that was fatally stabbed in his home. According to police records, the suspect, 25-year-old Warren Mitchell the Third knew captain Devin Boutte (Boo-tay), because Boutte supplied him with drugs to sell for his personal use.

LSU’s Jay Johnson has been named D1 Baseball National Coach of the Year. Johnson just led the Tigers to their second national championship in three years. He is the fastest coach to win multiple CWS championships during his tenure at a single school. The 2025 Tigers were 53-15 and finished the season on an eight-game winning streak.

The Ragin Cajuns reportedly have a new pitching coach. U-L Lafayette has hired Taylor Sandefur to replace Gunner Leger, who is now at Southern Miss. Sandefur helped Marshall enjoy its best season in the Sun Belt Conference with a 33-26 and two wins over the Cajuns in the Sun Belt Tournament.

The LSU football program has reportedly hired Ole Miss Coordinator of Recruiting Strategy Kevin Bolden. Bolden will serve as assistant general manager under Austin Thomas. Bolden spent three seasons at Ole Miss and he worked with Thomas for one season.

 

LSU strength and conditioning coach, Katie Guillory, has lost her left leg from the knee down because of a jet ski accident on the Fourth of July. That’s according to Guillory’s family.  Guillory played on the LSU softball team from 2009 to 2013 and the past three seasons, she’s been an assistant strength and conditioning coach for LSU gymnastics and beach volleyball. Guillory is a Lafayette native and went to Carencro high school.

UL Lafayette softball has announced that Arizona State pitcher Julianne Tipton has signed with the Cajuns and she’ll have three years of eligibility left. After striking over 600 hitters during her high school career, she was 5-2 with a 7.00 ERA for the Sun Devils during her freshman campaign.

ULM infielder Morgan Brown is ranked 49 in D-1 Baseball’s top 100 mid-major player rankings. Brown hit .382 with 13 home runs and 62 RBIs. Louisiana Tech pitcher Allie Floyd is number 70 on that list after becoming the first Bulldog pitcher to record 150-plus strikeouts in a season since 2011.

Governor Jeff Landry praised the Louisiana Tech senior for her courage under pressure. The flooding, which has killed more than 100 people with ten campers still unaccounted for, devastated the camp and surrounding areas. Henderson says Foltz and others moved campers to higher ground.

Henderson says as the semester is set to start soon, Louisiana Tech will support her and learn from her example. He says she and exhibits the 12 tenets that define Louisiana Tech students.

The bickering over the budget bill’s effects on Medicaid continues between the political parties. Louisiana Democratic Party Executive Director Dadrius Lanus says the bill will destroy families who depend on Medicaid for health care coverage.

Lanus says the cuts to Medicaid will hit Louisiana very hard.

Cut 8 (11) “…access basic care.”

Lanus says 33 rural hospitals across the state are projected to close, including 11 in Speaker Mike Johnson’s district. Johnson says the alarm bells that Democrats are sounding are completely overblown. He says what they fail to mention is that those who are able to will now be required to work or volunteer for 20 hours a week in order to receive Medicaid benefits.

Johnson says when those people go to work, their Medicare taxes will help ensure that anyone who needs the benefit can get it.

Ashbrook says unlike fire ants, the Asian needle ant is not a mound-forming ant.

Ashbrook says you should protect yourself by wearing gloves, especially after a good rain storm.

And the Asian needle ant’s sting is much more painful than that of the fire ant. Ashbrook says the best way to control Asian needle ants is to apply scatter baits in areas where you see them foraging. They would then take that bait back to their nests and share it with their colony-mates.

12 firefighters from various Louisiana fire departments are in Texas to help in the response in the catastrophic flooding that has so far killed 95 people. Baton Rouge Fire Chief Michael Kimble says they are some of the most qualified and dedicated individuals around.

Trained in swift water rescue and urban search and rescue, the firefighters are equipped with advanced rescue boats and specialized gear to save lives in flood emergencies.

One man is dead and five others are hurt in a shooting in Natchitoches early Sunday morning. Police Sergeant John Greely says at this time, it’s unclear what led up to the shooting.

18-year-old Latravion Stallworth was killed. The other five were taken to hospitals. As of earlier today, three had been released, and two were listed in stable condition.

A 12-member task force comprised of firefighters from Baton Rouge, Zachary, West Feliciana, and Shreveport are in Texas to aid in catastrophic flood response, particularly in Kerr County.  Baton Rouge Fire Chief Michael Kimble says swift water operations are still ongoing and they are there as a back-up to a team that’s already conducting them…

The Audubon Aquarium Rescue in New Orleans has released three sea turtles back into the Gulf of Mexico after undergoing extensive care. Stranding and Rehab coordinator Gabriela Harlamert says one of the sea turtles, named Francois, was found weak and dehydrated and spent two years at their facility…

Congratulations to Garrett Nussmeier!  LSU’s starting Q-B got engaged to longtime girlfriend and LSU alum Ella Springfield. The couple shared their news on Instagram with photos that show them celebrating their huge moment at a lake as the sun was setting. Nussmeier posted the caption “Forever Us.” No word on a wedding date as Nussmeier prepares for his final season at LSU and a run for a championship ring on his other ring finger.

Former McNeese star Christian Shumate will be play on the Pelicans Summer League Team, which will have its first game in Las Vegas on Thursday against Minnesota.
