The U.S. Capitol attending physician’s report says McConnell has not suffered a stroke or a seizure disorder. Cassidy is satisfied with the report.

The first televised debate of the 2023 governor’s race is tomorrow. Five of the candidates will discuss the issues facing Louisiana at 7 PM at WWL-TV’s studio in New Orleans. But the front-runner, Republican Attorney Jeff Landry, will not be there, because the Urban League is an organizer, and he says they have a bias towards Democrats.

The Urban League says they do not have any bias towards a particular candidate. Mandeville Representative Richard Nelson will also not participate tomorrow, because his polling numbers were not high enough.

Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy says he’s satisfied the U.S. Capitol attending physician’s report about the health of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. The Kentucky lawmaker appeared to freeze in front of the public on at least two occasions.

Margaritaville Singer Jimmy Buffett died as a result of merkel cell carcinoma, a rare but aggressive form of skin cancer, diagnosed in less than three thousand people in the U-S every year. LSU School of Medicine Oncologist Dr. Brian Boulmay says the disease develops on areas of the body that are regularly exposed to natural or artificial sources of light.

The disease is most common on the forearm, neck, face, and lower legs. It spreads to the lymph nodes first and then to the liver, bones, lungs, and brain.

After getting beat 45-24 on Sunday night in Orlando, Coach Brian Kelly says they are re-assessing everything and that includes the use of linebacker Harold Perkins. Perkins was an all-American as an outside linebacker last year, but he’s playing middle linebacker this season and only had five sacks on Sunday. Kelly says they want to do what’s best for Perkins and the team….

The Saints are at work today getting ready for Sunday’s season opener against Tennessee. New Orleans is favorite to beat the Titans by a field goal.

18-year-old Jailyn Smith and two other teenagers have been arrested in connection to a shooting that fatally wounded 15-year-old Ja’Kobe Queen and injured a female at the 52nd Sugar Cane Classic, an annual match-up between Port Allen and Brusly high schools. West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Mike Cazes says even with law enforcement on-site the suspect ended Queen’s life Friday.

The suspect, 18-year-old Jarrettin Ranaud Jackson II, was arrested Monday in Baton Rouge.

Despite some rain over Labor Day weekend, the Tiger Island wildfire, the state’s largest in history, is still active. The fire has burned over 31 thousand acres. Beauregard Parish Sheriff Mark Herford says there are still a few active spots but the fire remains within the current footprint.

The Tiger Island wildfire, the largest wildfire in the state’s history, is now 57 percent contained. Beauregard Parish Sheriff Mark Herford says more than 330 people are working to assist with the Tiger Island fire. He says this is an unprecedented situation and the statewide burn ban is still active.

The suspect, 18-year-old Jarrettin Ranaud Jackson II, was arrested Monday in Baton Rouge. Jackson is charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, carrying a firearm on school property, and possession of a machine gun.

State Transportation is looking to partner with businesses to build and maintain electric vehicle charging stations. DOTD Chief Maintenance Engineer Kevin Reed says the potential businesses will fund the remaining 20 percent.

80 percent of the costs of the charging stations will be funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Reed says he expects to see more charging stations as a result of the grant program in Louisiana around this time next year.

The Tiger Island wildfire continues to burn in Beauregard Parish, more than two weeks since it started. We spoke with Beauregard Parish Sheriff Mark Herford who says progress continues but they’re not out of the woods yet.

A Simmesport man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Avoyelles Parish on Sunday. 40-year-old James Dibble Jr. of Simmesport was struck by a Mazda 6 driven by 40-year-old Mary Cazelot on Old Highway 1. Cazelot was arrested for felony hit and run, obstruction of justice, and driving under suspension. The investigation is ongoing.
