50,000 signatures were delivered to the Orleans Parish of Registrar of Voters this afternoon  from a petition to remove New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell. UNO Political Science Professor, Ed Chervenak says nearly 20% of recall signatures are declared invalid across the nation, but petition organizers came in and did what they had to do.

The signatures must be validated before the process moves forward; the Registrar has 20 working days to verify signatures.

Charges have been dropped against LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers who was arrested in New Orleans this week for a misdemeanor count of illegal carrying of a weapon on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Prosecutors decided to drop charges on the condition that Nabers does not get the gun back.

The LSU men’s basketball team will try to end a 14-game losing streak tonight when they host Vanderbilt. A 15th straight loss would tie a school record set in 2017. Vanderbilt comes into tonight’s game with a five-game winning streak, the second longest in the SEC. Tip off is at 6 PM.

In college baseball tonight….the Ragin Cajuns open their home schedule as they host BYU. U-L Lafayette took two of three from Rice last weekend, while the Cougars split a four game series with Louisiana Tech. Nicholls is at South Alabama, while ULM travels to Mississippi State.

The Pelicans return from the All-Star break tomorrow with a game in Toronto. Dyson Daniels and Larry Nance Junior are listed as probable to play. There are 23 games left in the regular season and they are currently in seventh place in the Western Conference standings.

The fifth ranked LSU Lady Tigers have two regular season games left. LSU is at Vanderbilt tomorrow night. In Saturday’s win over Florida a few role players stepped up as Jasmine Carson knocked down a career-high seven three-pointers and LaDazhia Williams had a double-double. Coach Kim Mulkey says they’ll need more from their supporting cast going forward…

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested 11 people this week involved in the theft of over 150 cell phones from people celebrating Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Chief Deputy Jimmy Travis says the suspects are members of a Colombian theft ring, and deputies are trying to return stolen phones to their rightful owners…:

A Sulphur man is under arrest for allegedly having sex with a person under 17 years of age earlier this month and recording the event. 43-year-old Antonio Chavez is charged with carnal knowledge of a juvenile and pornography involving juveniles. His bond is set at a quarter-million dollars.

A New Orleans man was shot multiple times today, while driving on Interstate 10. This happened during the lunch hour. The victim was able to drive himself to a nearby business to get help. The city has had a string of shooting incidents on the busy freeway in recent months.

 

Baton Rouge area congressman Garret Graves says he is getting closer to a decision on a possible run for Governor of Louisiana this fall. He says a great many have asked him to run, asked if he would run and asked if he is thinking about running. He says he is still making up his mind on what could be a career-changing decision…:

Deputies recovered the phones from a short term rental complex in Tickfaw. Four people were arrested Sunday and 40 cell phones were recovered. Another seven individuals were arrested Monday and additional 122 cell phones recovered. Travis says they might have your phone, but the case is gone…

Travis says if you lost your cell phone in New Orleans do not call their office unless you see your number listed on their Facebook page.

He says the thieves used Faraday Bags to get the phones out of New Orleans and bring them to the Northshore…

Today organizers of the recall New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell petition will submit signatures to the  Orleans Parish of Registrar of Voters office. They needed about 50-thousand signatures to trigger a recall election. UNO Political Science Professor Ed Chervenak expects Cantrell’s campaign to dispute the legality of many of the signatures…

New Orleans police have identified 15-year-old Roderick Tobias as the shooting victim that was killed during the Bacchus Parade Sunday night. Four others were injured.

Alexandria Senator Jay Luneau will reintroduce legislation to keep auto insurance companies from unfairly discriminating price-wise against one’s gender because he says women are often charged more than men. Luneau says it’s really hard to get some legislators to consider the cost involved in paying for coverage and that it could be a product of the insurance company as well as any other factor.

The bill failed to make it out of committee last time.

Lent begins today, and many Louisianans will be eating mostly seafood for the next 40 days. Gulf Seafood Institute chairman Harlon Pearce says he and fellow seafood professionals are excited for what looks to be an abundant year ahead.

Morgan City Police arrest a New York man, who’s also convicted sex offender after he was selling candy and novelty items along the Hera (Hair-ah) Parade route. Thomas Devaul did not have a permit and he also failed to report his move to St. Mary’s Parish. Among his are charges of soliciting without a permit, and failure to register as a sex offender.

With the start of Lent today, we look in on the Louisiana seafood industry. How ready are they for the additional demand…?
