Blanco, the husband of former Governor Kathleen Blanco, was an institution at U-L Lafayette, serving as the school’s vice president of student affairs for decades. Current university president, Joe Savoie, says Blanco hired him as an administrator at U-L in 1978 after Savoie was a student and a fraternity president…

DOTD is mourning the loss of Motorist Assistance Patrol worker, Darrell Guillory who was stabbed Sunday afternoon along I-10 in Port Allen. Secretary Shawn Wilson says they believe Guillory was trying to help someone when the incident happened.

Authorities release police body and dash cam video of the fatal arrest attempt of 45-year-old Derrick Kittling of Alexandria on November 6th. State Police Lt. Melissa Matey says the video shows a Rapides Parish Sheriff’s deputy involved in a scuffle with Kittling during a traffic stop and during the physical altercation Kittling gained possession of the deputy’s taser…:

State Police Colonel Lamar Davis says LSP is conducting a thorough investigation that will be done fairly and impartially.

When you see emergency vehicles on the side of the road or behind you, AAA says Slow Down and Move Over. Spokesperson Don Redman says it’s the law and could cost you $200 in Louisiana. And it’s not just emergency responders who are injured as a result.

DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson says he’s sickened by the Sunday stabbing death of Motorist Assistance Patrol worker Darrell Guillory who was killed by someone they believe he was trying to help. Wilson says the Motorist Assistance Patrol is one of the department’s most popular services.

Holiday travel means more traffic and that means more accidents. AAA wants to remind motorists to “Slow Down and Move Over” for emergency crews. Those crews include law enforcement, ambulances, and tow truck operators. Spokesperson Don Redman says failure do so in Louisiana can cost you $200.

Civil Rights attorney Ben Crump says footage of the fatal arrest of Derrick Kittling confirms what they suspected that the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Deputy, Rodney Anderson, escalated and demonstrated the use of unnecessary force during a traffic stop on November 6th in Alexandria. State Police released video of the physical altercation between the deputy and Kittling and Colonel Lamar Davis was asked what Kittling’s family thought…..

The Saints ended a two-game losing streak as Quarterback Andy Dalton threw three touchdown passes in a 27-20 win over the Rams yesterday. Dalton threw for 260 yards and zero interceptions. He completed passes to nine different players as the offense finally got on track after a couple of subpar performances…

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels threw for 297 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 129 yards and a score in the Tigers 41-10 win over UAB. Coach Brian Kelly says it might have been Daniels’ best game of the season…

The Pelicans host Golden State at the Smoothie King Center tonight. Zion Williamson says he’s definitely playing after missing the last three games with a right foot contusion. It’s the same foot that he broke that led to him missing all of last season.

For the fifth time in as many games, LSU women’s baskerball scored 100 points in a game. Yesterday they defeated Northwestern State 100-to-45 in the PMAC.

Louisiana’s unemployment rate for October hit yet another record low of three-point-three percent. Louisiana Workforce Commission Supervisor for Employment Statistics Mark Jones says the numbers are great news, especially for southern Louisiana cities.

He says Lake Charles added 56-hundred jobs, while Shreveport 34-hundred over the year and Alexandria added 15-hundred jobs.

US sports fans are typically focused on American football this time of year, but the World Cup is underway.  Louisiana Soccer Association President Sean Esker says Thanksgiving week is a good time to get your World cup fix.

A Baton Rouge DOTD worker is dead, after being stabbed Sunday on the side of Interstate 10 in Port Allen by a broken down driver. The man drove a Motorist Assistance Patrol van and stopped to help out. West Baton Rouge Parish deputies arrived in time to witness the attack and used deadly force to end it. Both the victim and the attacker died later in a local hospital. State Police are investigating, as with all officer-involved shootings.

The World Cup is underway and Louisiana soccer fans are all atwitter over Team USA’s chances this year. Louisiana Soccer Association President Sean Esker says we’ll all see when they play Wales today…:

Baton Rouge cops had to break up a huge brawl between two groups of adults at a Chuck E. Cheese kids’ restaurant over the weekend. The fight was reportedly over an alleged stolen credit card. One person threatened to go get a gun, and the punches flew. No arrests were reported.

West Baton Rouge Parish deputies rolled up on a knife attack in progress Sunday on Interstate 10, and had to shoot the assailant. State Police Trooper Chis Reed says a Motorist Assistance Patrol worker stopped to help a broken down driver, but was stabbed for his trouble. Deputies witnessed it and shot the attacker. Both the victim and attacker are dead. LSP is now investigating…:

Deputies in Calcasieu Parish are seeking a woman who went missing early Saturday morning after visiting a local video poker place. 32-year-old Stephanie Fong is white, average height and has red hair with orange highlights. State Police are investigating a fatal deputy-involved shooting in West Baton Rouge Parish on I-10 Sunday. Trooper Christian Reed says DOTD Motorist Assistance Patrol unit stopped to render aid to a broken down driver, and that driver stabbed the man to death. Deputies arrived to witness the attack and Reed says they used deadly force to stop it…:

The assailant has not yet been identified. The victim is Darrell Guillory, who was also a former Baton Rouge cop. LSP is investigating.

Raymond Blanco, the former First Gentleman and husband of Governor Kathleen Blanco, has passed away. The man known as “Coach” to so many was also a former vice president of U.L. Lafayette and coached football for decades. His wife preceded him in passing back in 2019. Raymond “Coach” Blanco was 87.

 

As folks prepare to hit the highway for the Thanksgiving holiday, Louisiana AAA reminds us all of the state’s “Move Over” law. Apparently only about 1 in 4 are aware that when police , tow trucks or broken down vehicles are on the roadside, we are supposed to move over into the furthest lane or slow down if we cannot change lanes.

The Saints offense got back on track yesterday and it led to a 27-20 victory over the Rams in the Superdome yesterday. Quarterback Andy Dalton threw three touchdown passes as he shared snaps with Taysom Hill, who saw more time at Q-B and led the team in rushing with 52 yards. Coach Dennis Allen says the players executed the game plan well…

LSU Quarterback Jayden Daniels bounced back from a bad performance at Arkansas to throw for 297 yards and a touchdown and rush for another 111 yards and a score in the Tigers 41-10 beat down of the UAB Blazers on a very chilly night in Death Valley. Daniels says he prepared well for the game…

ULM, U-L Lafayette and Louisiana Tech will also close out their seasons on Saturday. The Warhawks will host Southern Miss with a chance at finishing Sun Belt play with a 4-and-4 record.

The Cajuns can get bowl eligible with a win at Texas State and La Tech hosts UAB.

Southeastern Louisiana will host Idaho in the first round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday.
