In his final game in a Ragin Cajun uniform, Quarterback Levi Lewis threw for 270 yards and a touchdown in U-L Lafayette’s 36-21 win over Marshall in the New Orleans Bowl. Lewis finishes his career 35-and-7 as a starting quarterback for U-L Lafayette and this was his first win in the Superdome after two previous tries…

If you have autism, you can now have a driver’s license that indicates you have the medical problem. Matthew Boudreaux, Public Information Director for the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles, says the designation was approved by the legislature.

The autism indicator will appear below the driver’s picture. The individual must present a Medical Examiner’s Certification of Autism Spectrum Disorder completed by a medical or mental health professional to have the autism indicator placed on their license.

Matthew Boudreaux on why the autism indicator can prove both helpful to the holder of the license and a law enforcement officer, given that the person with autism may express themselves differently.

If you have autism and want the indicator on your driver’s license Boudreaux says you need to present certain documentation.

He says an individual can have the autism indicator removed at their request at any time. Applicable fees apply to have the autism indicator added or removed.

Who doesn’t love a Christmas photo of a puppy or kitten under the tree but in reality the gift of a pet for is not always ideal. Puppies and kittens grow up and they require care for several years. Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center Supervisor Shelley Delahoussaye (Dela-who-see) says the recipient might not have the ability to support them.

While you might want to keep the gift of a pet a surprise Delahoussaye says it’s better to bring the intended recipient into the shelter with you and allow them to choose their pet. She also says while children can go through a phase of wanting a pet they don’t understand the responsibility of pet ownership.

Delahoussaye says instead of a surprise gift of a pet for Christmas some shelters offer gift certificates where you pay the adoption fee and then the recipient can later choose their pet at the shelter. Another option you might want to see if your local shelter offers a fostering program where they can come home with you on a temporary basis.

Five people are dead as the result of two-related accidents Friday night on I-49 in St. Landry Parish. Trooper Thomas Gossen says the first wreck was caused by a wrong-way driver from Dallas, Georgia.

Cut 9 (11) “…the left lane.”

The 54-year-old Lundy was killed as was the driver of the other vehicle and two other passengers, ages 20, 16 and 14. Two were critically injured. Subsequently, an 86-year-old man was killed when his Silverado slammed head-on into an LSP unit diverting traffic off the interstate.

Trooper Gossen explains how Billy Lee of Terrell, Texas became a victim that night as the other accident scene was being investigated on I-49 South.

The trooper sustained minor injuries.

Trooper Gossen says an investigation continues to determine how Lundy wound up traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-49 and for how long.

Actor Josh Duhamel will reign over New Orleans’ Carnival as Bacchus LIII (53). The Krewe made the official announcement Sunday. Duhamel is known for roles in the Transformers films, the series “Las Vegas” and being married to pop star Fergie. The Krewe of Bacchus parade will be Sunday night, February 27th.

State police are investigating an in-custody death that occurred Sunday in Bogalusa. The deceased is identified as 28-year-old Eric Nelson, a resident of the city, who had been involved in a single-vehicle crash. The Washington Parish Sheriff’s office that Nelson had several felony outstanding felony warrants and was tasered as he attempted to flee the scene.  Nelson complained of respiratory problems later and died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

A stunning outcome on Sunday night as the Saints shut out Tampa Bay nine to zip to complete the season series sweep of the defending super bowl champs. New Orleans sacked Bucs quarterback Tom Brady four times, held him to 214 yards passing, also intercepted him once and forced a fumble in which the Black and Gold recovered. It’s only the third time Brady has been shut out in his career and the first since 2006.

That’s now seven straight regular-season wins over Tampa Bay and improves the Saints record to 7-and-7, which is good enough for the final playoff spot in the NFC.

After rallying to beat Louisiana Tech on Saturday night to improve to 11-and-0, the LSU men’s basketball team moved up two spots to number 17 in the AP Top 25 poll. The Tigers host Lipscomb on Wednesday night.

Football scoop reports LSU coach Brian Kelly is looking at reportedly hiring Cincinnati offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock as the Tigers’ new offensive coordinator and Kansas City Cheifs’ linebackers coach Matt House as LSU’s new defensive coordinator.

McNeese named Gary Goff as its new head football coach today, replacing Frank Wilson, who is now at LSU. Goff was 22 and 3 at Valdosta State and just helped them reach the Division Two National Championship game.

The increase will effectively double the cash assistance with hopes the money goes towards promoting career development and financial independence. Drugmaker Moderna, says their booster dose of the COVID-vaccine should offer adequate protection against the Omicron variant. Lab test show the half-dose booster shot increased by 27 times the level of neutralizing antibodies able to fight off the Omicron variant and a full-dose triggered an 83-fold jump in antibody levels.

Inflation and unprecedented need caused by the pandemic has resulted in Louisiana increasing the cash benefit amounts available through the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program; also known as TANF (TAN-if). Briggs says the additional funding is long overdue.
