Drug maker Pfizer reportedly plans to file as early as tomorrow for emergency use with the FDA for their COVID-19 vaccine. Governor John Bel Edwards says he’s 100-percent confident once vaccines are FDA approved, they are safe for use.

The governor is optimistic that the state will begin to receive an allotment before the end of the year, healthcare workers and those in congregate setting such as nursing homes will be vaccinated first.

A family spokesperson for Edwin Edwards says the former four term-Governor appears to be improving but remains hospitalized with double pneumonia, after being admitted for a second time in less than a week. Edwards’ biographer Leo Honeycutt says Edwards says is expected to stay in the hospital into the weekend.

Louisiana residents will get a tax break tomorrow and Saturday as there’s a state sales tax holiday. You will not have to pay the state’s 4.45 percent sales tax on the first 25-hundred dollars for most consumer purchases. LSU interim president Thomas Galligan released a statement today saying its troubling to face the prospect LSU may have mishandled alleged cases of abuse and sexual assault. It’s in response to a USA Today article that provided several examples of LSU not following through on social misconduct allegations.

Pfizer will reportedly file paperwork tomorrow with the Food and Drug Administration for emergency approval of its coronavirus vaccine that’s shown 95-percent effectiveness. Former Governor Edwin Edwards’ health appears to be improving according to family spokesperson Leo Honeycutt.  Last Friday Edwards was admitted to the hospital, tested for COVID and pneumonia, both negative then released Sunday. Honeycutt says on Tuesday night, Edwards was admitted again, and diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.

Last Friday Edwards was admitted to Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge, tested for COVID and pneumonia, both negative then released Sunday. Honeycutt says then again on Tuesday night, Edwards was admitted, this time to Ochsner in the capital city and diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.

LSU will get a lot of players back from quarantine when they travel to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks on Saturday, including quarterback Max Johnson.  Johnson is competing with TJ Finley for the starting job.  The quarterback position is not the only area that the tigers have uncertainty at, as the defense has been shaky all season.  Coach Ed Orgeron says LSU has been working to improve that side of the ball.

Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill are battling for the starting quarterback spot with Drew Brees sidelined.  Whoever wins the job will face off against an Atlanta Falcons defense that coach Sean Payton says, has shown a lot of improvement.

With the 13th pick in last night’s draft, the New Orleans Pelicans selected guard Kira Lewis Jr. from the University of Alabama.  Lewis was considered arguably the fastest player in the draft.  The former Crimson Tide standout averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game.  The Pelicans also had the 23rd overall pick but it is involved in a trade.

Former LSU guard Skylar Mays heard his name called in last night’s draft when he was selected in the second round by the Atlanta Hawks with the 50th overall pick.

In college basketball news, LSU forward Shareef O’Neal has been granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA and will now be able to play for the Tigers this season.  Shareef is the son of former LSU and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal and he signed with UCLA out of high school but left after his freshman year due to a medical condition.

Also, LSU basketball players Javonte Smart and Trendon Watford have been named to the preseason All-SEC team.

A report from the 2021 Gulf Coast Energy Outlook predicts oil production will decline over the next three years. David Dismukes, Executive Director at LSU Center for Energy Studies co-authored the report and says the outlook for the industry changed with the pandemic.

Dismukes says futures markets predict oil will continue to trade in the 40 to 50-dollar range a barrel for the next decade.

Over the past two days, the state has reported over 45-hundred new coronavirus cases. This is why Governor John Bel Edwards is asking Louisiana residents to not have large family gatherings for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
Currently, the state is in Phase 3 coronavirus restrictions, which allow for restaurants, salons, retail stores, and churches to operate at 75-percent capacity. Crowd sizes are limited to a maximum of 25 people. But governor Edwards says tighter restrictions are possible if the state is not showing signs of slowing the spread.
