The NBA’s board of governors will reportedly vote tomorrow on a 22-team return to play format. A conference call with the league’s owners is scheduled for 11:30 central time tomorrow. ESPN reports all of the teams will play in Orlando, including the Pelicans, and play eight regular-season games to determine seeding for a 16-team playoff. The Pels are 3.5 games back of Memphis, but according to the Athletic, if the gap between the eighth and ninth seed is four games or fewer those teams would face off in a double-elimination, play-in tournament. The season would resume on July 31st and if there’s a game seven of the NBA Finals it will be on October 12th.

The LHSAA’s executive committee holds a virtual meeting today and they’ll discuss the reports that as many as 14 schools have held summer workouts prior to a June eighth start date.

The NFL has told its teams they must hold training camp this year at their home facilities because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly a third of the teams hold their training camp in a location away from their home facilities. ESPN’s Adam Schefter also reports joint practices between two teams will be banned, once training camp begins.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, LSU football coach Ed Orgeron said his players and former players are hurting and they’ve let him know they’re hurting over George Floyd’s death. Orgeron says he totally supports them and he will not tolerate racism. The S-I report says Coach O let LSU Police Lt. Reggie Berry speak at the team’s first meeting yesterday since the coronavirus outbreak. Berry’s father, Hassell Berry Junior, was LSU’s first black police officer in 1968.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest, or arrests, in the shooting death of a black bear just south of Franklin. LDWF spokesperson Adam Einck says the bears were taken off the endangered list a few years ago but are still protected.

Tropical Storm Cristobal is now expected to make landfall at 1am Monday in Louisiana, hurricane forecasters expect the center of the storm to reach the state near Avery Island and New Iberia. According to the National Hurricane Center maximum sustained winds are expected to be 65mph at landfall However, forecasters said it is still early and everyone from the Florida panhandle to Texas should remain alert.

In New Orleans last night several hundred George Floyd protesters gathered on Interstate 10 near the Superdome, halting traffic in both directions. No violence was reported and there was a large police presence.  And at one point, police officers joined protesters and took a knee.

Governor John Bel Edwards has voiced his extreme disapproval of Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin’s actions and Floyd’s death. Edwards, whose family has a background in law enforcement, says the procedure used to restrain Floyd is not approved in police training.

Edwards also noted his appreciation of Louisiana citizens keeping protests civil and nonviolent compared to other states across the country.

The casino industry is responding to the Senate’s decision not to confirm the re-appointment of Ronnie Jones as chairman of the state’s gaming control board. Casino Association of Louisiana executive director Wade Duty says Jones captured the respect of those within the state’s gaming industry and beyond.

And that would mean Game Seven of the NBA Finals would be on October 12th. A 22-team format would include the New Orleans Pelicans.

A state court judge in Florida has ruled that Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson will have to answer questions under oath over whether he accepted improper benefits to attend Duke for one year. Williamson’s lawyers are expected to appeal. Williamson is involved in a legal dispute with his former marketing representative Gina Ford.

Tattoo shops are reopening in Phase Two and the artists behind the ink are ready to get back to work on Friday.  Glynn Morace is the owner of Platinum Innovations Tattoo Studio in Baton Rouge and says it was tough on shops to be closed when he feels they are historically more sanitary than gyms.

Morace says the business has been overwhelmed with hundreds of customers contacting him throughout the closure with questions about reopening.

Those customers will need to set an appointment as walk-in business will not be available in the near future.

Morace says there will be changes in the experience with face coverings being provided to be worn by artists and customers.
