Starting Monday Louisiana will start paying an additional 600 dollars a week in unemployment insurance benefits to those who qualify. Matt Doyle has the story.

A drive-thru COVID-19 testing site exclusively for first responders and healthcare workers has been established in Shreveport.   The site will be open, weather permitting, from 9 AM to 4 PM daily at the Walmart parking lot in the 1100 block of Shreveport Barksdale Highway. The drive thru testing site is the first of its kind in the state.

The COVID-19 lockdown has resulted in an unprecedented dilemma for Christian, Jewish, and Muslim congregations during one of the holiest times of the year.  LSU Associate Professor of Religious Studies Michael Pasquier (pass-cay) says some religious communities are more prepared than others for the challenge of conducting services for an audience at home.

Edwards says the expanded benefits begin Monday and will also include workers who did not previously qualify.

A spokesperson for John Bel Edwards says the governor is looking at the request. If the governor orders schools closed until next August, it will be up to BESE and the state department of education to set up guidelines for school districts to follow.

Stadium network college football insider Brett McMurphy says he’s polled every F-B-S athletic director and he believes it’s likely a college football season will have to wait until the springtime and that could result in some of the top players not playing…

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees and his wife Brittany were guests on “The Ellen Show” and said “the American people need sports right now.” Brees says the return of sports can be part of the recovery and not having sports right now makes the situation we are in much tougher. The future Hall of Famer said it would be really weird if they had to play games this fall in empty stadiums and he also admits the NFC South got tougher with Tom Brady signing with Tampa Bay.

ESPN’s re-broadcast on Monday of the “Rebirth” game, the iconic Monday night contest between the Saints and Falcons in 2006 attracted about 70-thousand television viewers in the New Orleans area. The peak local rating was an 11.7.

Former NFL quarterback great Peyton Manning bought 140 meals from Drago’s Seafood Restaurant to feed health care workers caring for coronavirus patients at the Tulane Health System. In a video message, Manning said he wanted to take a minute to say thank you.

The Governor implored people to apply for unemployment at Louisianaworks.net and if possible between the hours of 10 PM and 4 AM to avoid peak traffic.

The cash influx will be a big boon for the hundreds of thousands who’ve filed in the last month. Edwards says between March 1st and April 4th there were 277,000 claims filed.

Edwards says the Louisiana Workforce Commission Trust Fund is being put to work, paying out 25.5 million dollars in benefits last week, and the federal funds will greatly increase that number.

Companies that qualify the loan can have it partially, or fully forgiven if it is used mostly to maintain payroll.

The Senate isn’t scheduled to meet again for several weeks, but Kennedy says this legislation could get passed by “unanimous consent” so that Congress could abide by social distancing guidelines.

Kennedy says it’s a lot of money to throw around but it’s vital it be done so that the economy can be saved. He says COVID-19 kills, but so does poverty.

The question is being asked more and more, will there be a college football season in the fall. College football insider Brett McMurphy at the Stadium Network has surveyed the 130 F-B-S athletic directors and he believes the best option is a football season starting in the spring

The Louisiana Oil and Gas Association projects over 23-thousand jobs are at immediate risk if oil prices remain low and no immediate action from federal and state governments. Jeff Palermo has the story…

The state now has just over 17,000 COVID-19 cases, and a total of 652 fatalities. The state has now received funding from the CARES Act to pay additional unemployment benefits. Those will now include an additional $600/weekly through July and will include gig workers, 1099 workers, and the self-employed. Payments will start Monday.
Drivers are staying home, and that’s saving auto insurance companies a lot of money. Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon spoke with Matt Doyle about getting those saving passed on to customers…

The LSU AgCenter and the Louisiana Farm Bureau are surveying crawfish producers to determine the economic damage caused by the coronavirus outbreak. LSU AgCenter economist Kurt Guidry says the information collected will be turned over to the U-S-D-A in an effort to get assistance for the industry

New Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady was a guest on the Howard Stern show and said he has zero resentment towards his former head coach Bill Belichick. Louisiana Tech athletics director Tommy McClelland says the school will cover the cost of funding for the additional scholarships in baseball and softball next year, because of the NCAA decision that grants an extra year of eligibility to all spring sports athletes. But track, golf, and tennis senior athletes will not automatically get scholarships if they return. McClelland calls it a tough decision. He says seniors from tennis, golf and track and field can return, but the coaches will have to decide how to fit them in their normal scholarship limits or they can compete as a walk-on.

Alabama Coach Nick Saban says he finally has his own email address. Saban said he had to create his own email because his wife Terry was tired of getting all of his emails. Saban told ESPN’s Mari Taylor that Miss Terry fired him. Saban says he’s also learned how to use Zoom and FaceTime during this time of social distancing.
