Former LSU frat member Matthew Naquin is facing 2.5 years behind bars in his future for his role in the 2017 hazing death of Max Gruver.  Loyola of New Orleans University law professor Dane Ciolino says it is a stiff sentence, but it is a serious crime.

Naquin also received three years of probation.  Ciolino says given the severity of harm, it does not come as a surprise that Naquin has been required to perform a heavy amount of community service.

As part of the community service, Naquin is expected to speak to high school students about hazing, but the Gruver family has already said they do not see Naquin as the right person to lead an anti-hazing campaign.

Naquin is currently out on bond and he’s appealing his negligent homicide conviction.

Governor Edwards says he’s not daunted by Republicans near supermajority in the Legislature. The GOP came two seats in the House shy of being able to override vetoes after the run-off.

Edwards says he’s built a career in politics working with both sides of the aisle, and just because the Capitol is red and he’s blue, doesn’t mean they get some major accomplishments passed.

Shared Hope International says Louisiana needs to address laws allowing children who’ve been sex trafficked to still be charged with prostitution.

Founder Linda Smith says the state scored an A on their yearly legal report card on all other child sex trafficking issues, but one relic from the past keeps us from a perfect score…

Smith says allowing children who’ve been trafficked to be charged with prostitution creates is physiologically damaging to the child and potentially deprives them of much-needed services.

Smith says this needs to be addressed immediately so that children who are abused and manipulated through trafficking aren’t then victimized by the legal system.

A 14-year-old is in jail, accused of stabbing his 50-year-old father to death with a spear inside their Terrytown home. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says they received a call this morning from a teen who said he stabbed his father multiple times.

The state’s unemployment rate now sits at 4.5 percent, up from 4.3 percent last month, but Workforce Commission Chief Economist Ali Bustamante says the trend is still towards growth.

Louisiana Tech played poorly on Friday against Marshall and lost their first conference game. Starting quarterback J’Mar Smith, leading receiver Adrian Hardy and starting linebacker James Jackson were suspended for the game, but Coach Skip Holtz is not using that as an excuse for why they lost. Smith and Hardy will also miss Saturday’s game at UAB.

Jefferson Parish authorities say a 14-year-old used a spear to kill his 50-year-old father. Sheriff Joe Lopinto says the teenager called 9-1-1- after the fatal stabbing at a home in Terrytown. The teen is in custody and deputies have the spear that was used to kill the man. Lopinto says there may be some mental illness with the teen, but no signs he was committed.

State Police and other agencies are investigating the cyberattack that crippled many of the state’s computer servers and it still has OMV locations closed today. Jeff Moulton with the Louisiana Cybersecurity Commission says law enforcement does its best to track down the people behind the cyberattacks, but they are often never found.

Seven state agencies were initially impacted by the attempted ransomware attack.
