Eddie Rispone qualified for the race earlier this morning. So far today, various candidates have qualified in a variety of races.   Incumbents such as Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin, Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser, and Attorney General Jeff Landry have all qualified. Challenger for Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple has also qualified. Qualifying runs through 4:30PM Thursday.
Shreveport police are investigating an early Saturday morning drive-by shooting left a one-month old child dead in the Sunset Acres neighborhood.  Police Chief Ben Raymond believes there is someone out there that has details that can lead to an arrest, and says they need to come forward.Raymond says his department is leading an effort of community support and citizen engagement to reduce violent crime in the city.

Authorities have identified the infant victim as Queen Dean, who was struck in the head when a bullet entered her family’s home.

There were some notable absences at LSU practice yesterday. For the second straight day, linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson, cornerback Kristian Fulton and offense lineman Kardell Thomas were missing. All-American safety Grant Delpit was also not at practice. Coach Ed Orgeron is scheduled to address the media tonight.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees didn’t practice yesterday. Just a day off for the veteran after the team practiced Sunday night at Tulane’s Yulman Stadium. That meant more reps for Teddy Bridgewater with the first team. Bridegewater connected with new tight end Jared Cook on a long touchdown pass. The Saints as a team are off today. They’ll return to practice on Wednesday and then Friday it’s the first preseason game against the Vikings in the Mercedes Benz Superdome.

Former LSU pitcher Kevin Gausman has a new team after he was waived by the Braves. The Cincinnati Red claimed the right-hander off waivers on Monday. Gausman has had a tough season, he’s 3-and-7 with a 6.19 ERA. Gausman also spent time on the injured list with an injured foot.

In major league baseball last night, Texas blanked Cleveland 1-0 as Mike Minor threw seven shutout innings. The Rangers have won five in a row. The Yankees won their sixth straight, beating Baltimore 9-6 by scoring three in the 8th. The Houston Astros begin a two game series tonight against Colorado in Minute Maid Park.

A Baton Rouge Police officer was shot while responding to a domestic call on Geranium Street Monday night. The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) says shots were fired at an apartment complex in the 900 block of Geranium Street near Aster Street several blocks north of Tiger Stadium around 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5 while officers were responding to a domestic call. A BRPD officer was shot in the leg and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
A spokesperson with BRPD says two people are being detained in connection to the case, one of which they believe is the shooter.

Former Baton Rouge cop Blane Salamoni is in hot water again, this time after a 2014 complaint was unearthed that alleges the officer misled EMS at the scene of a shooting. The complaint was filed by an EMS worker who says Salamoni delayed the team, telling them the victim of a shooting had died, while he was reportedly still writhing on the ground.

The victim, 16-year-old Makayla Gregoire of Houma, was unrestrained while riding in the back seat. LaGrange says riding in the back can give passengers a false sense of security.

The accident occurred on LA 57 near Canebrake Avenue north of Dulac.

Authorities say Hood blew a .126 blood-alcohol level on the scene, above the .08 legal limit. LaGrange says that’s unacceptable, and a devastating loss for the community that could have been avoided.
