ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Pelicans have re-signed small forward Darius Miller to a two-year contract worth 14.25 million dollars. Which doubles what he made a season ago, but the second year of the contract is not guaranteed. Miller averaged eight points a game last season in 69 games. He gives New Orleans another shooter.

The Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly offered former LSU star Ben Simmons a max contract extension, which will pay him 170-million dollars over five years. Simmons is set to make eight-million dollars this year.

LSU Basketball Coach Will Wade has filled out his coaching staff with the hiring of Kevin Nickelberry. Nickelberry was an assistant coach at Clemson when Wade was a student manager. Most recently, Nickelberry was the head coach at Howard.

Southeastern Louisiana has named David Kiefer as its new men’s basketball coach. Kiefer has been the program’s associate head coach for the past three seasons.

Louisiana Tech is moving forward with plans to demolish their tornado damaged soccer, baseball, and softball facilities. Athletics Director Tommy McClelland says discussions are underway where those teams will play next season. Soccer can play at a nearby rec park, while baseball and softball could be forced to play “home” games outside of Ruston.

And McClelland says they’ve begun plans to construct new facilities, and they’ve hired an architect familiar with stadium construction to build something fans will be proud of.

Former LSU pitcher Aaron Nola was outstanding for the Phillies last night as he threw eight shutout innings and struck out eight as Philadelphia blanked Atlanta two to nothing.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office announces the arrest of two volunteer firefighters for their connection to three fires in Webster and Claiborne parishes. Matthew Crane of Springhill and Montana Ludlum of Cullen have reportedly confessed to there involvement.

Beginning today, Uber will be available in every parish in Louisiana as a result of a statewide rideshare law passed in the 2019 legislative session. Uber south spokesperson Trevor Theunissen says Uber has been operating in Louisiana’s largest cities, but no rules were in place for rural or suburban communities…

There’s good news in the state’s battle to reduce the number of H-I-V cases. There were 989 people diagnosed with H-I-V in 2018, which is the lowest number in more than a decade and the number of newly diagnosed H-I-V cases has declined 12-percent over the last three years. State health officials also say there’s also been an increase in the number of people receiving medical care within 30 days of their diagnosis.

Triple-A projects a record 48-point-nine million Americans will travel during the Fourth of July holiday. That’s a four-percent increase over last year. Triple-A spokesperson Don Redman credits an improved economy and friendly gas prices…

About one-thousand people showed up for a prayer service and Rosary at Russo Park last night for longtime U-L Lafayette baseball coach Tony Robichaux. The 57-year-old is in the I-C-U in a New Orleans hospital after undergoing multiple surgeries following a heart attack.

After suffering catastrophic damage from an EF-3 tornado in April, Louisiana Tech has made the decision to demolish the baseball, softball, and soccer stadiums this summer. Athletic Director Tommy McClelland says after extensive surveys, they came to the conclusion that trying to salvage those sites just wouldn’t be safe.

McClelland says discussions are ongoing when it comes to where those sports will play games. He says the soccer team can hold their contests at a local rec park, while baseball might play some home games at Ruston or as far away as Frisco, Texas, where there is a strong alumni base.

Crabs, shrimp, and fish have moved out of their bays and oysters are dying in the fresh water. McInnis says it’s destroying a four-billion-dollar industry in Louisiana. He says the federal government would be quick to respond if one of their two refineries were to shut down…

Nationally, 4 million travelers will take to the skies, a 5.5 percent increase over last year, with airfare costs up 10 percent over last year.

Redman says most of that travel increase can be traced back to an improved economy, but some of it is likely to do with more friendly prices at the pump…

The spillway was opened in an effort to reduce the burden on levees in the New Orleans area.  As part of his plea, McInnis says Congress must require the 30 other states that drain into the Mississippi to do their part to manage the flow of water.

A stretch of highway in Cajun Country running from I-10/I-49 South to Raceland was named Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Highway at an unveiling ceremony last night featuring both the current and former Governors.

Franklin Representative Sam Jones was there and says it’s a fantastic way to honor one of the great Cajuns in state history.

After suffering catastrophic damage from an EF-3 tornado in April, Louisiana Tech has made the decision to demolish the baseball, softball, and soccer stadiums this summer.  Athletic Director Tommy McClelland says after extensive surveys, they came to the conclusion that trying to salvage those sites just wouldn’t be safe.

McClelland says they’re working on cutting a deal for fall baseball and softball practice at nearby high schools, including potentially altering class schedules to accommodate, but the games themselves could be played all over…

A female is recovering after being shot and being dumped off on the side of Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge.  Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Don Coppola says police responded to call about a woman walking on the interstate near the I-110 Split.

Coppola says the suspect, 28-year-old Gerry Byrd, fled to Mississippi where he was shot by law enforcement, he’s recovering in Baton Rouge.

“Operation Murder Gang Meltdown”, a cross agency narcotics taskforce in Terrebonne Parish is nearing an end after the arrests of 18 suspects and the seizure of significant amounts of drugs. Terrebonne Parish Chief Deputy Terry Daigre says the taskforce has made some major seizures.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries raises the nutria bounty from $5 to $6 per tail for the upcoming season in hopes it will entice hunters to step up the fight against the invasive species. Kevin Barnhart has the story.
