Six constitutional amendments are on tomorrow’s ballot and the one receiving the most interest is Amendment Two. That’s the one that requires unanimous jury verdicts in felony cases. Former district attorney Ed Tarpley has been traveling the state, encouraging voters to vote “Yes” and he says our founding fathers thought it ws vital for American justice to have unanimous verdicts to get a convication for a serious crime…

Opponents to Amendment Two say it will lead to more hung juries and additional court costs.

State Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s unit responding to a burglary in progress call this morning. Sheriff Tony Mancuso says the pedestrain was walking in the middle of the street, wearing dark clothes and the deputy apparently couldn’t see through the fog.

Tomorrow, voters head to the polls to cast their ballots, but there hasn’t been much publicity for the election of a new Secretary of State. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says early voting totals were strong for a mid-term election and hopefully voters did their homework on the nine candidates in that statewide race…

But it’s a question mark on who will be the top two vote geters and make a December 8th run-off.

There are six constitutional amendments on tomorrow’s ballot. Amendment Two has received the most attention. It’s asking voters if Louisiana should join nearly every other state and require a unanimous jury decision for a guilty verdict in a felony case. The current standard calls for 10 of 12 jurors to agree on a guilty verdict. District Attorney for Livingston and Tangipahoa Scott Perrilloux says the 10 of 12 standard is legal and should not be changed…

ULM is in first place in the Sun Belt Western Division after a 44-25 win over Georgia Southern. Caleb Evans threw two touchdown passes and ran for another two. The Warhawks are 3-2 in league play and visit South Alabama this Saturday.

The Cajuns lost at Troy 26-16. UL Lafayette is two-and-three in league play and they will host Georgia State on Saturday.

After getting blown out by Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech returns to Conference USA play this Saturday and they’ll host Rice, who has just one win on the year.

Big win for Tulane on Saturday as the Green Wave blasted South Florida 41-15. The Green Wave are 4-5 and getting ready to host East Carolina.

There’s now a three-way tie for first place in the Southland Conference. McNeese is 5-2 in league play and so is Nicholls and Incarnate Word. McNeese is at Northwestern State this Saturday, while the Colonels host Stephen F Austin.

Tomorrow you’ll have a chance to weigh in on whether or not the state should require unanimous jury verdicts in felony cases. Its amendment two on the ballot. The proposal has received widespread bipartisan support behind a message that former District Attorney Ed Tarpley says is clear.

But several current district attorneys have reservations about the change. Scott Perrilloux is the D-A that represents, Tangipahoa, Livingston and St. Helena Parishes and says the current standard of 10 of 12 jurors to agree on a guilty verdict is good and the proposed change would lead to more hung juries…

The Saints are 7-and-1 and own the tie breaker over the Rams if it comes down to who has homefield advantage in the NFC South after a 45-35 win over Los Angeles in the Superdome.

Tomorrow you’ll have a chance to weigh in on whether or not the state should require unanimous jury verdicts in felony cases, amendment two on the ballot. The option passed the House 84 to 15 and has received widespread bi-partisan support behind a message that former District Attorney Ed Tarpley says is clear.

The amendment has the support of groups of the political spectrum and US Senator Bill Cassidy has voiced his support.

But several current DAs have reservations about the change. Tangipahoa, Livingston, and Helena DA Scott Perrilloux says the current law is delivering justice just fine, and the proposed change would be a burden on victims.

Supporters like Tarpley say the law is racist in nature and has a disproportionate effect on minority defendants who lose the ability to have a jury of their peers. Perrilloux says that’s not true, and that Apodaca vs. Oregon settled that question.

But Tarpley says that 1972 4-1-4 decision is remarkably flawed in that it required unanimous juries in federal cases but allowed states to make their own call on it. He says the founders thought of it as vital for American justice.

For the second time in less than a week, portions of Louisiana are facing the threat of severe weather.  National Weather Service Shreveport Meteorologist Aaron Davis says the weather may bring with it some dangerous wind conditions.

Davis says it’s hard to determine how much tornado activity  the state could see out of this storm system compared to the one that produced numerous tornadoes last week.

Davis says with the uncertainty of what the weather could bring, it’s important to plan ahead when you may only have a few minutes from the time you receive a tornado warning until impact.

Tomorrow voters head to the polls to cast their ballots, but there hasn’t been much publicity for the statewide election of a new Secretary of State.  Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says the stressed importance of this Election Day for other issues on the ballot has resulted in more people casting votes in the special election for the statewide seat.

Pinsonat says many voters may be undecided when it comes to the Secretary of State’s race due to a lack of campaign funding for the candidates.

Third-ranked LSU hosts top ranked Alabama as the unstoppable force meets the immovable object at Death Valley today.  LSU has quite the task on its hands as they attempt to defy the odds and topple Nick Saban and the Tuscaloosa empire.  Analyst Mike Detillier says compares Bama’s QB to Peyton Manning and another quarterback the Bayou State is quite fond of.

The price at the pump has seen a decline.  The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.47 in Louisiana today, down three cents from yesterday, nine cents since last week, and nearly sixteen cents since last month.  Gas Buddy.com fuel analyst Dan McTeague says we may see the price continue to drop even further.

Congressman Ralph Abraham has a suite of new campaign ads airing across south Louisiana markets that don’t have many voters from his more northern and central district. Abraham has publicly waxed about the idea of running for governor, and reports say he’s giving it a hard look, but ULM Poli Sci Professor Joshua Stockley says like most GOP candidates, he’s likely anxiously awaiting a decision from Senator John Kennedy, the presumed frontrunner. Stockley says there’s good reason for that.

The New Orleans Archdiocese has released the names of 57 priests dating back to 1917 who had credible allegations of child sexual abuse against them while in the ministry. Archbishop Gregory Aymond did not note how many claims were deemed un-credible, but says in order to move forward the church needed to address the issue.

A Lafayette TV station reports the Louisiana Attorney General has received four criminal complaints involving catholic clergy and correspondences from constituents expressing support for a statewide grand jury. The A-G’s office adds they’ve responded to each of the victims and law enforcement in the parish were notified of the alleged crimes.

Gas prices have been falling and they are expected to decline for the next couple of weeks. That’s according to Dan McTeague, who is an analyst with Gas-Buddy-dot-com…
