John has been on the front lines lobbying at the State Capitol for legislation that benefits the state’s energy industry. John said in a statement it was time for him to move on to his next adventure.

Louisiana’s 4th district Congressman Mike Johnson of Bossier Parish will serve as chairman of the Republican Study Committee when the 116th Congress convenes in January. The School Board meeting in Vermilion Parish where a teacher was forcibly removed after questioning the Superintendent’s pay raise has been legally voided by the courts. Jeff Palermo has more.

Two are under arrest in connection to the October 14th shooting death of a Lafayette area boxer, 28-year-old Brandon Broussard. Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s spokesperson John Mowell says the second suspect was nabbed by Marshal’s in another state.

Both suspects are facing Second Degree Murder charges.

 

Representative Mike Johnson has been elected as the chairman of the Republican Study Committee for the 116th Congress.  Johnson appeared on Talk Louisiana with Jim Engster to discuss his new role.  With 159 members, it’s the largest caucus of conservatives in Congress.  Johnson says the caucus has been around for 45 years with the goal of leading influence in the legislative agenda.

The Vermilion Parish School board has had their infamous January meeting voided by the courts. That’s the one where a teacher was dragged out of the room by a guard while questioning a Superintendent raise that was ultimately passed. Attorney General Jeff Landry says Landry says it’s a win for justice and the rule of law, and this one was one of the most clear-cut violations of Open Meeting Laws he’s seen.

The educator, Deyshia Hargrave, was questioning Superintendent Jerome Puyau’s 30,000 dollar raise.

St. James Parish scores a 1.25 billion dollar chemical facility that’s set to generate an estimated 1,250 jobs. Matt Doyle has more.

Louisiana spent almost 35-thousand dollars on attorney fees to settle the sexual harassment suit against former Secretary of State Tom Schedler. That’s in addition to the 149-thousand dollars that went to the alleged victim in the out of court settlement. Schedler also personally paid 18-thousand dollars to the ex-employee.

Chinese chemical giant Wanhua announces plans to build a 1.25 billion dollar chemical manufacturing complex in the St. James Parish town of Convent. Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson is glad the trade war between the U-S and China over tariffs didn’t derail this project….

Over 12-hundred new direct and indirect jobs are headed to St. James Parish as Wanhua Chemical selects Convent for the location of its new factory. It’s a 1.25 billion dollar complex that’s set to begin construction next year. Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson says deep water and quality infrastructure make it a good fit.

The Pelicans completed a perfect three-game homestand last night by beating the San Antonio Spurs 140-126. Julius Randle had a triple double, 21 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. Anthony Davis had 29 points and sat for the final 5:52 to watch his team win for the sixth time in seven games…
