An Arnaudville teen has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and attempted first-degree murder following an early Wednesday morning police pursuit.  St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Major Ginny Higgins says 17-year-old Dartamian Landry refused to pull over when deputies attempted a traffic stop.

Higgins says the suspect continued to drive at a high rate of speed for quite some time, when things turned south for the teen behind the wheel.

Higgins says it appears that the suspect intentionally aimed his vehicle at deputies when the crash occurred, injuring the officers involved.

Landry was booked at the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center with a bond set at $550k.

A 40-year-old man is under arrest after his 15-year-old son escaped captivity from a home in Sulphur where authorities say he was torturing the young man. Thomas Winniger and his girlfriend 34-year-old Desirae Tomcannin have been charged with 2nd degree cruelty to a juvenile and false imprisonment. Calcasieu Parish Sherriff Tony Mancuso says the details of the crime are disturbing.

Authorities suspect the minor has been kept out of school for some time now while the torture was taking place.

Mancuso says little is known about the family at this time, or Winninger, who hails from Sylvester Georgia, or than they suspect they move from place to place frequently. Mancuso says you could never justify the putting anyone through that kind of pain, which makes the arbitrary reasons given for the punishment that much more concerning.

Mancuso says the teenager made his escape to a neighbor’s house, where a 911 call was placed, by outsmarting his captors.

State Police say they’ve arrested three members of the Felony Lane Gang, who is allegedly responsible for several smash and grabs where they stole driver licenses, credit cards and social security cards. Trooper Melissa Matey says they’ve trageted St. Tammany Parish several times…

A digital version of your driver’s license is now available for smart phone users and it can be used as official identification. State Office of Motor Vehicles Commissioner, Karen St. Germain, says the LA Wallet is the first digital driver’s license in the country..

It’s been three months since four-year-old Junior Phillips was reported missing from his home in Claiborne Parish. Despite an extensive search, the child has not been found. The child’s parents has seen legal troubles with arrests since the disappearance, but Sheriff Ken Bailey is not sure if there is a connection between their legal woes and the missing child….

The FBI has offered a ten-thousand reward for information leading to the wherabouts of the child.

Suspected members of the infamous Felony Lane Gang were arrested Tuesday as part of a routine traffic stop, where officers discovered nearly 12,500 dollars alongside credit cards, driver’s licenses, and even wigs. State Police Spokesperson Trooper Melissa Matey says the three suspected members were not picked up because they were being tracked.

The Gang will take identification and credit cards, from vehicles, then have one of the members disguise themselves, to look like the card’s holder, where they will then go to banks and withdraw large sums of cash.

It’s been three months since the disappearance of a 4 year old in Claiborne Parish.  Rondriez “Junior” Phillips vanished on April 5th, and the search still continues with a ten thousand dollar reward offered by the FBI for information that helps find him.  Sheriff Ken Bailey:

Next time you get carded, you could have the option of pulling out your smartphone for a digital version of your Louisiana Drivers License. Commissioner at the Office of Motor Vehicles, Karen St. Germain, says the safety of the app has been tested with top of the line security measures and that the app is available now.

A couple in Calcasieu has been arrested and charged with Cruelty to a Juvenile and False Imprisonment involving one of the two’s 15-year old son. 40-year-old Thomas Winninger allegedly would handcuff the boy and use shock collars to burn the boy for up to 12 hours a day.

The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Depression Two has formed way out in the Atlantic Ocean. It’s heading towards the Lesser Antilles, but not expected to impact Louisiana. Just this week, Colorado State University lowered its projected storm total for this season.

A state representative is now preparing to run for another elected position. Republican Rick Edmonds of Baton Rouge, has announced his candidacy for Secretary of State in the fall election. Edmonds says security of state elections is one of his top priorities.

The United States is set to implement 34-billion dollars in tariffs on Chinese imports starting tomorrow. China is expected to retalitate with 34-billion dollars of their own tariffs on US products, which is expected to hurt Louisiana soybean farmers. Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves is watching the trade conflict closely….

More rain is in the forecast today as the Storm Prediction Center has placed much of central Louisiana and all of south Louisiana under a marginal risk for severe weather this afternoon. Rain is in the forecast for this weekend too.

Today marks the two year anniversary of the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling, a black man who was killed after an encounter with two white Baton Rouge police officers. The tragic incident led for a call of improvement in relations between law enforcement and the public. State Representative Ted James says some strides have been made, but more work is needed….

Former LSU star Aaron Nola won his 11th game yesterday as Philadelphia defeated Baltimore four to one. Nola allowed one run and seven hits in his fifth straight decision. The Phillies have won four in a row and they trail NL East leading Atlanta by one and a half-games.

In Chicago, former LSU star Louis Coleman gave up a couple of runs in relief and the Cubs defeated the Tigers five to two. Chicago remains one game back of Milwaukee for the division lead in the NL Central.

Also yesterday, Houston rallied back from a four-run deficit to beat Texas five to four in ten innings. Alex Bregman was 1-for-4 with an RBI as the Astros have won eight straight over their in-state rivals. Houston also gained a game on Seattle in the American West as the Mariners lost to the Angeles seven to four. The Astros lead for first place is 1.5 games.

LSU Pitcher Zack Hess was very sharp last night in the United States 1-0 win over Japan. Hess started and threw three shutout innings and struck out four. But a rain delay of an hour and eight minutes ended his night.

The Ragin Cajuns softball program has signed a graduate transfer from Texas A-and-M. In three seasons at College Station, Keeli Milligan hit .339, scored 130 runs and stole 105 bases.

In college football….Georgia’s projected starting quarterback Jake Fromm broke his non-throwing hand in a boating accident on Monday. Fromm’s hand was reportedly fractured when a rope toeing his friend behind the boat came down on his hand. Bulldogs Coach Kirby Smart told ESPN the injury was insignificant and Fromm has already resumed throwing. LSU hosts Georgia on October 13th.

It’s another off-day at the World Cup in Russia. Quarterfinal play begins tomorrow. France faces Uruguay and Brazil will battle Belgium.

Today marks two years since the shooting death of Alton Sterling by former Baton Rouge Police Officer Blane Salamoni. Since then legislation was passed to address the gap in trust between some Louisiana communities and law enforcement. State Representative Ted James says they’ve had initial success with programs aimed at increasing training for cops on how to interact with communities they serve.

James says while the new, diverse group of cadets entering the force is showing great promise, he’s concerned by the attitudes of veteran officers who’ve resisted the changes.
