An Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Deputy has been injured and a man is dead after an officer involved shooting in Mamou. State Police Trooper Scott Moreau says the deputy responded to a call of an attempted burglary, and got into an altercation with 27-year-old Dejuan Guillory.

Education leaders are letting teachers and students know what policy changes can be expected when they head back to class in August. A two-year-old Lockport boy died on the 4th of July in a swimming pool during a family gathering. Lt. Brennan Matherne with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office says Kevin Cortez III was last seen playing with other kids inside the home…:

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Agents arrested five people on the water during Operation Dry Water Weekend. LDWF Spokesperson Adam Einck says agents were on patrol with a heightened awareness for people impaired behind the wheel of a boat. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s office says a 2-year-old child is dead after drowning in a swimming pool during a family gathering on July 4th. They said deputies were called to the scene and informed that the Kevin Cortez III was last seen playing with other children inside, then a short time later located by his father at the bottom of a swimming pool. Foul play is not suspected in the incident.

Walker first complained of discomfort in his forearm before the College World Series. He tried to pitch in a game in Omaha, but left in the third inning, because he felt the pain reach his elbow. He was 8-2 with a 3.48 ERA during his freshman campaign.

ULM introduced Mike Federico as its new baseball coach today. He takes over a program that went 12-43 in 2017.

Joining Tigers Coach Ed Orgeron at next week’s SEC media days will be junior tailback Derrius Guice, receiver DJ Clark and senior defensive tackle Christian LaCouture. The conferences 14 teams are each represented by three players and the coach over the four day media blitz in Birmingham. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey kicks off media days Monday morning by speaking to hundreds of reporters. LSU’s delegation meets the press that afternoon.

Florida has announced that its homecoming game this season will be the LSU game. That will take place on October 7th. It will be the first of back-to-back trips to Gainesville in consecutive years, because of last year’s scheduling switcheroo because of Hurricane Matthew.

U.S. Majority Whip Steve Scalise from Jefferson Parish is back in the ICU and listed in serious condition at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. His doctors have new concerns over infection after undergoing several surgeries for a gunshot wound.

Tropical Depression Four has formed in the Atlantic Basin, but is not expected to gain strength at this time, according to the National Hurricane Center.

It looks as though there is a mayoral shift moving through the state as five of Louisiana’s biggest cities will experience a change in power over two years. That’s according to, Jeremy Alford of LaPolitics.com, who says right now it’s difficult to tell if there are ties that bind, but:

Congressman Clay Higgins has apologized and removed the controversial video he filmed as he toured the Auschwitz Memorial, using it as a backdrop to emphasize why America must always be alert with our military. But the director of a global Holocaust research center says making a political statement where thousands of Jews were killed is not appropriate. Higgins says his intent was to offer reverent homage to those who were murdered in the gas chambers, and apologizes for any unintended pain this has caused.

Many running back AJ Carter has decomitted from LSU after saying last Monday that he’d decided to go with the Tigers over UCLA. But Wednesday Carter announced on Twitter that he made the decision to come to Baton Rouge for the wrong reasons. Carter is as a three-star prospect, according to 247Sports, and is the top-ranked running back in Louisiana. After decommitting from LSU, Carter then tweeted his re-commitment to UCLA.

It looks like it Darius Miller is headed back to the New Orleans Pelicans after the former second-round pick agreed to terms Wednesday afternoon, according to sources. Miller had been playing in Germany and is expected to be back with the Pels when training camp opens in September. The Pelicans summer team opens in Las Vegas against the Toronto Raptors at 3 p.m. Friday.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Damien Wilson was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Frisco, Texas according to reports. Police had not released details on the circumstances leading up to the arrest.

Cowboys quarterback and Sulphur native Dak Prescott is reportedly accused of using a machine to sign his autograph for a memorabilia company instead of by hand, according to a report from ESPN.

Lots of folks have been critical of the New Orleans minor league baseball team’s new name, Baby Cakes after being re-branded from the Zephyrs last fall. But the logo was voted by fans across the country as the best in minor league baseball by America’s Logomania competition.
