The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s office says a 2-year-old child is dead after drowning in a swimming pool during a family gathering on July 4th. They said deputies were called to the scene and informed that the Kevin Cortez III was last seen playing with other children inside, then a short time later located by his father at the bottom of a swimming pool. Foul play is not suspected in the incident.

Education leaders are letting teachers and students know what policy changes can be expected when they head back to class in August. Debbie Meaux, Louisiana Association of Educators President, says a new law was recently signed by the governor that would limit testing time to 2% of a student’s learning time…:

Meaux also says that teachers and administrators will be engaging with a new accountability system.

The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Depression Four remains poorly organized and little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours. The depression is not currently expected to become a tropical storm.
