Cindy has weakened into a tropical depression; but flooding still a concern. State Climatologist Barry Keim says northwest Louisiana is likely to get the heaviest rains with potential for up to five inches. He says we aren’t out of the woods yet…:

But for the most part Louisianians are breathing a sigh of relief, and there are no more advisories slated to be issued on this system or updates from the governor.

But State Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson advises residents to take caution while driving today. He says 18 corridors across the southern half of the state have road closures on them because of high water. Wilson says drivers should never cross flooded roadways…

Tropical Storm Cindy has been downgraded to a tropical depression, but heavy rains continue around the state. State Climatologist Barry Keim says Cindy made landfall near the Texas-Louisiana border around 3 o’clock this morning. He says the system is inland and weakening, but it’s still a rainfall threat to Louisiana…:

U2 front man Bono visited with Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise’s staff and signed a card wishing the injured House Majority Whip a speedy recovery. The band performed in Washington DC this week. Scalise was grievously injured when a gunman opened fire at a Republican baseball practice last Wednesday, injuring several people. The congressman is in fair condition.

Flood victims are not completing the survey to receive federal assistance as quickly as state officials had expected. John Bel Edwards says so far only 23,000 people have submitted the survey. He advises people to do so quickly because the homeowners assistance program is in full swing.

The Tigers dominated last night eliminating Florida State with a 7 to 4 victory in the College World Series. Pitcher Jared Poche led LSU to the semifinal round with a record setting 39th career win allowing only four runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. The Tigers will face Oregon State again on Friday at 2 after a tough loss to the Beavers on Monday night.

Tropical Storm Cindy made landfall in Cameron Parish in southwest Louisiana early this morning and is expected to weaken as it moves farther inland throughout the day. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through tomorrow morning, and a Tornado Watch until 1 p.m. for much of the state. Forecasters now say that the biggest rain threat looks to occur over the western half of the state and northwest and northeast Louisiana.

2016 Flood victims are not completing the survey to get federal assistance as quickly as state officials had hoped. Governor John Bel Edwards says only 26,000 people have completed the survey so far. The site is restore.la.gov, but Edwards says there are other options…:

Stephen Carboni with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles says winds can down tree limbs and power lines, and he warns the public to be aware of that possibility…:

Heavy rain bands are expected to develop later this morning which could add several inches to already saturated grounds. Alek Krautman with the National Weather Service in New Orleans says along with the strong winds and heavy rains, there’s also an increased risk on the roadways. Winds are around 40 miles per hour and Cindy has already been a big rain maker in some areas. The eastern portion of the state is under a tornado watch through the early afternoon hours.

The LSU baseball team faced elimination Wednesday night at the College World Series in Omaha, but the team pulled through for a 7-4 win against Florida State. The Tigers advance to play Oregon State again on Friday at 2 p.m.

The Louisiana National Guard wants residents to know they are ready if assistance is needed from the flooding Cindy may produce. Major General Glenn Curtis says they have pre-staged 100 high water vehicles and 33 boats throughout the southern and central regions of the state…:

Springfield says 24-year-old Titus Harris has been booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on one count of second degree murder. He says they aren’t releasing any more details about the victim until the identity can be confirmed, which can be difficult given the remains are years old.

Zack Hess hit the mound in the 9th and earned his third save of the season and his second of the CWS by striking out the side.

Making rounds on social media before the game were pictures of Kramer Robertson with newly dyed bleach blonde hair. If it was a superstition, it may have worked as the shortstop finally got his first hit in Omaha in the top of the 9th. Hess had his hair cut like Ricky Vaugn from the movie Mahor League. Maineri said he wasn’t impressed by the new styles.:
