The LSU men’s golf team is back in Baton Rouge after winning the program’s first national championship in 60 years. The Tigers defeated USC in match-play to claim the title. Ben Taylor’s nine-foot par putt on 18 wrapped up LSU’s first men’s golf championship since 1955.

At Saints OTA, Coach Sean Payton talked about a simpler approach on defense. He says they are doing it to improve execution and reduce variables. Payton says it’s something they have to do, after giving up several big plays last season.

Also at Saints OTA, running back Mark Ingram didn’t participate. Payton says he’s resting a minor foot-slash-ankle injury.

Saints linebacker Junior Galette has suffered a pectoral injury that may require surgery. It is unclear how the injury occurred, but Galette is contemplating surgery that could sideline the five year veteran for part or all of next season.

Former LSU Tiger Trindon Holliday has inked a deal with the Oakland Raiders. Holliday played for three different teams in 2014, before being released by San Francisco 49ers.

The R-and-L Carriers New Orleans Bowl returns to primetime. This year’s game will be played on Saturday, December 19th at 8 PM in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Last year’s game, which featured UL-Lafayette for a third consecutive year, kicked-off at 10 A-M.

Lafayette Police arrested a woman for second-degree murder after the discovery of an infant’s body that had been in a box for 14 years in a storage unit. Fifty-seven-year-old Rebecca Landry was booked into Lafayette Parish Jail for the death of the child. Corporal Nicole Benoit says police were notified after a man who purchased the storage unit  discovered the body in a box.

Through their investigation, detectives have determined that the infant has been in the box since 2001. Benoit says Landry spoke with detectives, but the details of that conversation are private….

The senate and now the house has approved legislation that paves way for people who suffer from cancer, glaucoma and a severe form of cerebral palsy to receive medical marijuana legally in Louisiana. The bill passed on a vote of 70-29 in the House. New Orleans Representative Helena Moreno…

Officials with the “Hollywood South” movie industry are apprehensive about changes made by the Senate Finance Committee to a bill that reforms the film tax credit program. The committee lowered the cap for film tax credits from $200 million to $180 million. Louisiana film industry consultant, Sherri McConnell, says this causes concern about projects already in the pipeline, as well as the future growth of the industry…:

When you look at the seeds, the Fighting Tigers are the favorite in the Super Regional series. LSU is a national two seed in the NCAA Tournament, while the Ragin Cajuns were a three-seed in the Houston Regional. Coach Paul Mainieri says seeds don’t mean anything at this point, and they learned that lesson when Stony Brook, a fourth-seed, beat the Tigers in the Super Regionals in 2012…

A woman from Lafayette is under arrest for 2nd degree murder, after a man discovered a dead baby’s body in a box from a storage unit he purchased. Lafayette Police say fifty-seven year-old Rebecca Landry confessed to the crime, saying the infant died in 2001. Landry is being booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail.

Vermilion Parish narcotics agents arrested four people and rescued two babies after discovering a meth lab at an Abbeville home. When arriving at the home of Jody and Kimberly Wooten, authorities noticed a smell they immediately related to methamphetamine production. Agents discovered a 2-year-old and a 1-year-old inside the home and removed them. The Wootens and two others, Sondra Evans and Brittney Adkins, were arrested on drug charges.
