New Orleans Representative Austin Badon believes his anti-discrimination legislation has a decent chance of passing this year. House Bill 612 would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. He says it needs to be realized that, across the board, all men and women are created equal…

Badon says this legislation corrects the injustice of it being legal to fire someone from a job because they are gay, bisexual or transgender. Badon says the bill will likely come up in the House Committee on Civil Law and Procedure next week.

The House approved 615-million dollars in additional revenue last week, by raising the state’s cigarette tax and suspending or reducing tax benefits many businesses currently enjoy. Fannin says they were hoping to generate 900-million dollars or so in new revenue, but there’s still time to do that.

The Senate has advanced a bill that would let colleges raise their own tuition without legislative approval. The vote was 33-4 Monday and the authority would only come if another proposal which seeks to control the TOPS scholarship program also advances.

The number one ranked LSU baseball team is in position to win a bunch of championships over the next six weeks. The Tigers swept Missouri this past weekend, leaving their magic number to clinch an SEC Regular season title at two. LSU’s magic number to win the SEC west is one. LSU is at UNO on Tuesday and then they can win an SEC title during a three-game series at South Carolina, which starts Thursday. Coach Paul Mainieri on the LSU Sports Radio Network…

LSU right-hander Alex Lange has been named SEC Freshman of the Week. Lange allowed just one run on two hits in seven innings as the Tigers defeated Missouri eight to two on Saturday.

The Saints have announced they’ve signed six of their 2015 draft picks and that includes Quarterback Garrett Grayson and linebacker Hau’oli Kikaha. (Ha-ol-e Ki-Ka-ha).

But the big story out of the NFL is that the league has suspended Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for the first four games of the upcoming season. The franchise has also been fined one-million dollars and loses its 2016 first round draft pick as a result of an investigation that looked into the Patriots purposely defalating footballs to lower amounts that the league has specified. The Saints by the way, will play New England in week two of the preseason.

There are reports that Ruston athletic director and former football coach Billy Laird suffered a stroke over the weekend. Acccording to K-T-VE’s Brady Renard, doctors are still performing tests. Laird was the head football coach Ruston, before stepping down a couple of years ago. He was a quarterback at Louisiana Tech prior Terry Bradsaw in the 1960s.

Authorities say 17-year-old Shane Alexander is charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder. Spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says Shane went into his parents’ bedroom around 3 o’clock this morning…

The House Budget Committee has approved a 24 billion dollar budget that will keep colleges and universities from having to face budget cuts in the face of a 1.6 dollar budget deficit. Those proposed dollars are expected to fill in the gaps based on House-backed tax changes, and additionally help cash-flow shortfalls in health care. Debate begins May 21st.

State Police say two people are dead after a high speed crash this weekend in St. Tammany Parish that happened after a traffic stop. Trooper Dustin Dwight says an officer pulled over a vehicle speeding going over 100 miles per hour in Covington. Dwight says while the trooper was conducting a field sobriety test on the 14-year-old driver of the vehicle, something else happened…:

A bill that would provide free HIV tests for inmates being released from prison will be discussed on the House floor. Natchitoches Representative Kenny Cox says this would help prevent AIDS from spreading further in the state. He says Louisiana has the fourth highest number of men and women living with AIDS in the nation…:

Lafayette Police say a teenager was killed by his friend over the weekend who told investigators he thought the gun was not loaded with he pulled the trigger. They say 18-year-old Jo’nathan Delacrioux was shot in the face and died at a nearby hospital. 18-year-old Anthony Beloney was charged with negligent homicide and possession of marijuana.
