The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Vivian teenager accused of stabbing his parents. Authorities say 17-year-old Shane Alexander is charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder. 61-year-old LaDonna Alexander, was stabbed once in the chest and his father, 64-year-old Jerry Alexander was stabbed in the back and arm. Both survived.

The House Budget Committee has approved a 24 billion dollar budget that will keep colleges and universities from having to face budget cuts in the face of a 1.6 dollar budget deficit. Those proposed dollars are expected to fill in the gaps based on House-backed tax changes, and additionally help cash-flow shortfalls in health care. Debate begins May 21st.
