The Regional Roots category is 4 years old and a The Bayou State artist has won it every year. Sonnier has been a Cajun and country music performer for more than 50 years.

Leonard then reportedly stabbed him in the neck. Hollins was transported to a local hospital. Leonard is charged with attempted second degree murder.

In college hoops, LSU improved to 6-4 in the SEC by beating Alabama 71-60. Jordan Mickey scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as the Tigers ended their two game losing skid. LSU hosts top ranked Kentucky tomorrow night.

In Conference USA, Louisiana Tech downed Middle Tennessee 73-62. The Bulldogs are now in a three-way tie for first in the league. Tech takes on Florida Atlantic Thursday night in Ruston.

ULM has regained the SunBelt Conference lead after defeating Georgia Southern 71-68. Thursday nigh, the Warhawks welcome UL-Lafayette who are coming off of an 84-69 loss to Texas-Arlington.

In the Southland, Nichols upended McNeese 70-59, it was Southeastern Louisiana over Abilene Christian 65-52, and Central Arkansas picked up their first win of the season over UNO 70-67.

And Anthony Davis is questionable for tonight’s game against Utah after injuring his shoulder in the Pelicans 107-72 loss to Chicago Saturday.

There are some state agencies that will see a part of the Jindal Administration’s 61 million dollars in cuts which is proposing to help fill a 103-million dollar revenue shortfall for this fiscal year. The proposal also includes the use of 43 million in stopgap funds. Commissioner of Administration Kristy Nichols says significant cuts to public colleges and health care are on the table for next fiscal year…:

She says the joint legislative committee on the budget will have its opportunity to approve the governor’s revised budget plan at their meeting on February 20th.

Gas prices have jumped about 10% over the past couple of weeks according to the American Automobile Association. AAA says the current statewide average for a gallon of regular is $2.02 which is 15 cents more than this time last week.

It’s a beautiful day in Louisiana for parading and as you get out to enjoy the Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control is sending a warning that they will working in full force today.
