Falling temperatures has prompted the National Weather Service to issued freeze warnings for portions Louisiana. Assumption, Lafourche, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Charles, Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, Orleans, and Terrebonne Parishes are under a freeze warning. A hard freeze warning has been issued for Tangipahoa, Washington, St. Tammany, and St. Helena Parishes. The warnings will be in effect until Thursday morning.

With the beginning of Lent, many people will be totally giving up meat for the next 40 days or at least eating seafood only on Fridays. Gulf Seafood Institute chairman Harlon Pearce says once we have a good warm front roll through we should see quality seafood at the market for a good price…

She says there will be tables set up in the church parking lot and all you’ll need to do is drive up…

LSU had an eight point lead with 12 minutes left in the game, but couldn’t hold on as Texas A&M rallied back to win last night 68-62. Jarell Martin lead the Tigers with 13 and Keith Hornsby added 11. The Aggie defense held Jordan Mickey to just 6 points and four rebounds for the night. The Tigers fall to 7-6 in league play with five league games left before the SEC Tournament.

The fourth ranked LSU baseball team looks to improve to 4-0 tonight when they host Nicholls State at 6:30. Tigers Coach Paul Mainieri is impressed that the Colonels took two of three from Stony Brook last weekend. Mainieri says they could have used a couple of wins against Stony Brook in the 2012 Super Regionals

Freshman right-hander Doug Norman will start on the mound for the Tigers, while the Colonels will counter with senior, Chalmette’s Ryan Deemes.
Yesterday in college baseball …McNeese State stays undefeated at 4-0 on the season, while Louisiana Tech remains winless at 0-4 as the Cowboys doubled up the Bulldogs four to two. The same two teams will play again today at 1 PM.

And UL-Lafayette is at Northwestern State. Game time for this matchup has been moved up to 4 PM, because of expected cold temperatures in Natchitoches.

The top high school football prospect in the state announced that he plans on playing his college football at Ole Miss. Quarterback Shea Patterson, who has led Calvary Baptist to two straight championships, chose the Rebels over LSU and USC. Patterson has thrown for over five-thousand yards and 72 touchdowns during his career at Calvary.

ULM Football Coach Todd Berry announced today that Travis Niekamp and Adam Waugh will serve as the Warhawks co-defensive coordinators in 2015. Niekamp has been with ULM the last three seasons, coaching linebackers and special teams. Waugh is entering his sixth season and he’s been the program’s safeties coach.

A report by the Schott Foundation for Public Education shows the black male high school graduation rates in Louisiana trails whites’ by 16 points. For the 2012-13 school year, only 53-percent of black male students graduated compared to 69-percent of white males. Foundation President John Jackson says these numbers are reason for concern…:

He says the results of this study indicate a climate that doesn’t foster health living and learning environments for black males.

State Police say a third person has died from Monday’s truck versus train collision in DeSoto Parish. Trooper Matt Harris says the driver and the two passengers in the truck were the ones killed in the wreck. Harris says truck attempted to cross over a set of tracks that didn’t have a warning gate or lights…

Harris says they believe the driver stopped, but began moving forward when it was already too late and they were hit.

Union Parish authorities have arrested a 23-year-old mother who allegedly left her eight-month-old son on his grandfather’s droopstep wrapped in a blanket and in a car seat. Detectives say Keondra Kenshun Ferguson left the child there, because she was depressed and there was no one to help her. Deputies believe the child was outside in mid-30 temperatures for an hour and a half. Ferguson was charged with child abandonment and the father is now taking care of the baby.

In Acadiana, several phone bomb threats were reportedly made today. The first two were called into the Walmart in Crowley, and Rayne Police are investigating another one made to Mouton Pharmacy. The investigation of a previous cold case in Washington Parish is back on in the brutal murder of a LaFourche Parish Man. Forty-six year-old Larkie Toups was killed on New Year’s Day in 2008. A female eyewitness to the brutal murder was arrested in 2013, and she’s still not identifying suspects. Chief Deputy Mike Haley says it’s a little tough, because there is still no body in the case…
