Louisiana Tech will face Cal State Fullerton tonight in the Starkville Regional. The Bulldogs are ending a 29-year postseason drought, while the Titans are in the NCAA Baseball Tournament for a 25th straight season.

The Ragin Cajuns will face Princeton tonight in the opening round of the Lafayette Regional. The Cajuns have played really well at the Tigue this season as they have a 23-and-5 record at home. Princeton is 24-19 on the season and the Tigers are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011.

Tulane is the second-seed in the Oxford Regional and they’ll play Boston College at three PM at Swayze Field. The Green Wave won a regional in Oxford in 2004. They beat former Washington pitcher and two-time Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum in one of those contests. Today, the Greenies will face righthander Justin Dunn, who has a 1.35 ERA.

At a hearing today in the Will Smith case, off-duty New Orleans police officer Chrstopher Mcgaw testified that Cardell Hayes, the man accused of fatally shooting the former Saints player, said at the scene that he got out of his vehicle armed with a gun. Mcgaw also says Hayes told him that Smith said he had a gun too.

Louisiana Tech head baseball coach Greg Goff says junior right-hander Phillip Diehl will start against Cal State Fullerton tomorrow and they’ll pitch Casey Sutton on Saturday. Diehl is 5-and-5 with a 4.70 ERA.

And tonight LSU faces Michigan in the opening round of the Women’s College World Series.

The Women’s College World Series gets underway today and LSU will take on Michigan at 8:30. The Wolverines eliminated the Tigers from the WCWS last year when they beat the Bayou Bengals six to three.

The LHSAA has announced high school principals will vote next Wednesday on four different playoff proposals for football and other sports. This past January, member principals voted to expand the current public-private school split to basketball, baseball and softball.

Utah Valley is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance. Meanwhile, NCAA officials are keeping a close eye on the weather as there are heavy rain chances in the forecast for Lafayette and Baton Rouge tomorrow and Saturday.

Louisiana Tech is leaving today to compete in the NCAA Starkville Regional. The Bulldogs earned an at-large berth during Monday’s selection show for the team’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1987. No. 3 seed Tech will take on No. 2 seed Cal State Fullerton at 6:30 tomorrow.

Southeastern Louisiana is back in the NCAA Tournament after a one-year absence. The Lions played in the Baton Rouge regional in 2014 and this weekend they’ll be back at the Box to take on Rice. Senior Pitcher Kyle Cedotal says the won a game two years ago, but they’re looking to perform better this time around…:

Lions first baseman Jameson Fisher is among the 25 semifinalists for the 2016 Golden Spikes Award. The honor is given to the top amateur baseball player in the nation.

It looks like the LSU/Alabama football game in Tiger Stadium this upcoming season will be another CBS prime-time match-up. The network announced they would televise an SEC game at 7pm on November 5th and the likely choice is The Tigers and The Tide.

Louisiana Tech’s game at Texas Tech on September 17th will kick-off at 6pm and will be televised by FSN. Northwestern State’s season opener at Baylor has been moved to Friday, September 2nd and the game will kick off at 6:30 at McLane Stadium.

CBS has revealed a portion of its 2016 football TV schedule. The network plans to air two SEC games on November fifth, including one at 7 PM, which means LSU-and-Alabama in Tiger Stadium has a good shot at being a primetime game. CBS will also have a daytime doubleheader on November 12th, which is the same weekend LSU plays at Arkansas.

Sources are reporting that former Saints defensive star Will Smith’s blood alcohol content was three times over the legal limit when he was fatally shot in the uptown area on April 9th. However, what that exact blood alcohol level was has not been confirmed, and there has been no statement from officials about the investigation regarding Smith’s B.A.C. level.

Longtime SEC CBS announcer Verne Lundquist will no longer announce football games after this season, according to the network. 59-year-old Brad Nessler, formerly of ESPN, will succeed Lundquist as play-by-play man on CBS football games.
Vegasinsider.com believes the SEC West race will once again involve LSU and Alabama. Both teams are predicted to win 10 games this year.

LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri says he’ll wait until Thursday to name a starting pitcher for Friday’s regional opener against Utah Valley. Mainieri says his options are either Jared Poche, Alex Lange or Caleb Gilbert. The head coach is also not sure who will be his starting catcher. Michael Papierski has seen more playing time lately over Jordan Romero.

Sources are reporting that former Saints defensive lineman Will Smith’s blood alcohol content was three times over the legal limit when he was fatally shot in New Orleans on April 9th. An exact blood alcohol level has not been confirmed and officials have not made a statement regarding the report. Cardell Hayes has been charged with murder in Smith’s death.

Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze admits mistakes have been made that have led to NCAA violations, but says neither he nor his assistants knowingly did anything wrong. The NCAA has been investigating the school, looking into academic and recruiting misconduct.

CBS announced that this will be the last season Verne Lundquist will call SEC football games. Lundquist has served as the voice of the SEC on CBS since 2000 and he’ll be replaced by Brad Nessler, who has been at ESPN for 24 years.

The LSU men’s golf team will NOT repeat as NCAA champs. That’s because the Tigers lost in a match play event to Oregon at the NCAA championship.
