LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron said on the SEC coaches teleconference that running back Leonard Fournette will likely miss his second straight game this Saturday with an ankle injury. It’s also possible that Andy Dodd will start at center, because of injuries to Will Clapp and Toby Weathersby.

Louisiana Tech quarterback Ryan Higgins has been added to the 2016 Manning Award Watch List, which goes to the top quarterback in the country. Higgins is averaging 374 yards through the air a game, completing 65-percent of his passes with 15 touchdowns and zero interceptions.

The NFL Network reports that Saints safety Erik Harris tore his A-C-L during practice this week and he’ll miss the rest of the season. Harris played mostly on special teams. New Orleans hosts Carolina this Sunday. Coach Sean Payton says they are preparing for Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton to play, even though he missed Monday’s loss to Tampa Bay because of a concussion.

UL Lafayette is about a ten-point underdog at home against Appalachian State tonight. Cajuns Coach Mark Hudspeth says winning the battle at the line of scrimmage will be important…

The Cajuns enter the game with a two-and-three record, while App State is 4-and-1. The turnover bug has bitten UL Lafayette lately, they’ve turned it over seven times in the last three games. Kick-off tonight is at 7 PM.

Pelicans star Anthony Davis is in jeopardy of missing the regular season opener after turning his ankle during a preseason game in China. There’s a report that says he’ll miss 10 to 15 days and the Pels begin the regular season two weeks from tonight at home against Denver.

Florida’s head coach Jim McElwain says he is shocked that anyone would think the Gators tried to dodge playing LSU last weekend. He said Hurricane Matthew’s death toll and other effects of the storm should speak for itself. The SEC said it would postpone the game, but no makeup date has been announced.

An East Baton Rouge Parish school principal and football coach are on administrative leave over an investigation into an alleged grade change for a football player. The LHSAA is investigating the Belaire High Bengals and Coach Claude Coleman for allegedly using a player who wasn’t eligible. They could have to forfeit their five wins this year.

The Ragin Cajuns are in action tonight against Appalachian State in a Sun Belt match-up that will be shown on ESPN Two, starting at 7:05. UL Lafayette enters the game with a league record of 1-and-1 and Coach Mark Hudpseth says it’s an important game for the program…:

Last year’s MVP Cam Newton is still working his way back from a concussion. New Orleans is 1-3 on the year, and is seeking its second straight victory. The loser of this game will be last place in the NFC South.

The postponement of the LSU-Florida game has many Tiger fans frustrated, but head coach Ed Orgeron says it was a productive weekend for the football team. Orgeron says they got some good work in on the practice field and then hit the recruiting trail…

The loser of this Sunday’s Saints-Panthers game will be in last place in the NFC South. Carolina lost to Tampa Bay last night and the defending NFC Champs are now 1-and-4 on the season. Panthers QB Cam Newton did not play last night, because of a concussion.

Haughton native Dak Prescott is on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Prescott has led the Cowboys to a 4-and-1 record. The rookie QB has a big test this Sunday as Dallas visits Green Bay.

Louisiana Tech kicker Jonathan Barnes was named Conference USA Special teams player of the week and Carlos Henderson was named the league’s offensive player of the week. Barnes kicked two field goals in Tech’s 55-52 win over Western Kentucky last week. Henderson had eight catches for a career-high 232 yards and three touchdowns.

K. Matthew Roan has been named the new athletics director at Nicholls State. He’s currently the deputy director of athletics at Eastern Kentucky and will begin work on the Thibodaux campus on November 15th

LSU and Ole Miss will kickoff at 8 p.m. in Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 22. The huge SEC West matchup will air on ESPN. Even after an unscheduled bye, LSU has once again landed in the Amway Coaches Top 25 Poll. The Tigers are ranked No. 25.

In the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Honors: The Offensive Player of the Week Award goes to wide receiver Carlos Henderson of Louisiana Tech. He had 8 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns in Tech’s 55-52 win over Western Kentucky. The Defensive Player of the Week Honor goes to defensive lineman Sully Laiche. He forced a fumble that ended the game and added 14 tackles in the Colonels 35-28 double overtime win over Stephen F Austin. The Special Teams player of the week is Louisiana Tech kicker Johnathan Barnes.

The Saints are off the bye week and ready to attack the 12 games remaining on the team’s schedule. Head Coach Sean Payton told WWL radio that staff used the time off to analyze how they plan to tackle the rest of the season…:

Athletic director Joe Alleva made it very clear today regarding the re-scheduling of the postponed LSU-Florida game, the Tigers will not give up their home game against South Alabama on November 19th….

There’s been talk that LSU and Florida might consider not playing non-conference games on the 19th, so they can play each other, but Alleva is obviously not for that idea.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey released a statement that says the league needs to play the game and they need to have people come together to find a way of making that happen.

Meanwhile, the Tigers return to practice this afternoon to get ready for this Saturday’s home game against Southern Miss. Head Coach Ed Orgeron says running back Leonard Fournette is questionable with an ankle injury that’s forced him to miss two games this season.

Tonight’s Monday night matchup in the NFL feature a couple of NFC South teams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Carolina Panthers. Both teams are like the Saints, they have 1-and-3 records. No Cam Newton for the Panthers, he’s out with a concussion.

The Falcons are running away with the NFC South. The Dirty Birds won again yesterday, beating Denver. Atlanta is 4-and-1 on the season and visit Seattle this Sunday. The Saints will host Carolina.

UL Lafayette is two days away from gameday as they host Appalachian State on ESPN Two on Wednesday. ULM is now 1-and-4 after losing by three points to Idaho. The Warhawks host Texas State for homecoming on Saturday.

Nicholls freshman Sully Laiche has has been named STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s double overtime victory over Stephen F Austin. The Lutcher graduate had a career-high 14 tackles and recorded his fourth sack of the season.

LSU gets back to work today, as they returned from an unscheduled weekend off. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey maintains the league will make every attempt to make-up the postponed contest between the Tigers and Gators. It’s unclear how that will happen at this moment.

What a wild weekend in the Southland Conference! Nicholls rallied from a 14-0 deficit to beat Stehpen F Austin 35-28 in double overtime. Colonels freshman defensive lineman Sully Laiche has been named as the league’s defensive player of the week. Laiche ended the game by forcing a fumble and he finished the contest with 14 tackles and recorded his fifth sack of the season.

In Hammond, Southeastern Louisiana’s Justin Alo completed an 82-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Acker in the final seconds to give the Lions a stunning 31-24 victory over the Cowboys. Alo finished with 339 yards passing and three touchdowns.

The Saints will be able to scout their next opponent tonight. New Orleans is set to host the struggling Carolina Panthers on Sunday and the Panthers are in action tonight as they face NFC South rival Tampa Bay in Charlotte. Carolina QB Cam Newton will not play because of a concussion. That means Derek Anderson will get the start.

Haughton native Dak Prescott has the Cowboys to a 4-1 record as Dallas won its fourth straight yesterday, a 28-14 win over Cincinnati. Prescott threw for 227 yards and extended his NFL rookie record streak of 155 passes without an interception to start his career.

In the Sun Belt…ULM is 0-4 after a 34-31 home loss to Idaho. Warhawks Quarterback Garrett Smith threw for 302 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough. The Warhawks host Texas State on Saturday. UL Lafayette is in action on Wednesday as they host Appalachian State.

And after a big win last Thursday against Western Kentucky, Louisiana Tech hits the road this Saturday for a non-conference game against one and five UMASS.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey spoke to CBS broadcasters during Saturday’s game between Texas A&M and Tennessee about the LSU-Florida game being postponed. He said they did not reach the decision lightly as the forecast on Hurricane Matthew which was bearing down on Florida continued to change. Sankey said they acknowledged that they are looking for another opportunity to play that game but it’s difficult. He said it’s important to play that game between the Gators and the Tigers. LSU takes on Southern Miss this weekend in Tiger Stadium.

Southeastern won an exciting game over McNeese State in Hammond Saturday night. The Lions were lifted to the 31-24 win after Justin Algo threw an 82 yard touchdown pass to Brandon Acker with 8 seconds left to play. The win came on the heels of a strong defensive performance by SLU, which held McNeese to 304 yards.

ULM dropped a close contest Saturday to Idaho. The Warhawks fell 34-31.

UL-Lafayette plays host to Appalachian State on Wednesday night in an ESPN2 contest. Coach Mark Hudspeth says he has no doubt the Cajuns are going to get the Quarterback Anthony Jennings turnovers fixed and still have an outstanding season. UL-Lafayette is 2-3.

In the NBA, the New Orleans Pelicans fell to the Houston Rockets, 123-117 in Shanghai. It was the first time New Orleans has ever played in China. Omar Asik scored 14 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had five blocks in 28 minutes, but the Pels were held scoreless for the final 1:36. Shooting guard E’Twaun Moore led the Pelicans with 25 points, Anthony Davis had 23 and rookie Buddy Hield finished with 14. It was New Orleans’ second consecutive preseason loss.

It’s possible that when the Panthers take on the Saints this weekend in the Mercedes Benz Superdome they will not have quarterback Cam Newton. Newton has been ruled out for tonight’s Monday night game against Tampa Bay. He took a hit to the helmet in a loss to Atlanta and hasn’t practiced since.

Louisiana Tech and pulled out am incredible win last night over Western Kentucky in grand fashion. The Bulldogs needed a victory badly.
