A man from Independence is booked amid allegations he was responsible for starting a massive fire in Washington Parish last Thursday night. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture says 24-year-old Kenneth Beaubouf was tending to a fire while camping and left it unattended where it later spread into the woods nearby. He is booked with burn ban violation and fire raising with criminal negligence.

3 inmates who escaped from the Ascension Parish Jail Friday night have been recaptured. The sheriff’s office says the 3 breached a door and got into the prison’s recreation yard where they went over a wall and barbed wire fencing. They were taken back into custody less than 3 hours later.

Some residents in Vernon Parish were placed under a voluntary evacuation Friday afternoon due to a large wildfire. The Biden Administration announces the federal government will spend one point two billion dollars to build underground carbon capture hubs in Texas and Louisiana. A veteran deputy with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office has been fired following his arrest for DWI and hit and run. Authorities say 50-year-old Sgt Clint Gray was also booked with resisting an officer and careless operation. Sherriff Jason Ard said Gray, who had been an LPSO deputy since 2001, is no longer a member of the department.

I-10 along the Louisiana – Mississippi state line reopened this morning after being shut down in both directions Friday afternoon due to a huge brush fire in the median. The dense smoke obscured visibility in the area and crews needed the roads cleared to get the blaze under control. The closure was in effect for nearly 11 hours.

The LSU Football Team landed another huge commitment with three-star offensive lineman Ory Williams joining the 2024 recruiting class. Williams, the number 40 offensive tackle in the country, becomes the 21st commit for next season and third on the o-line for the Tigers this recruiting cycle.

Twelve Louisiana legends from sportswriters, MLB players, basketball players and coaches highlighted the 2023 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame class which was inducted over the weekend. They included longtime LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri, Shreveport native Wendell Davis, who shattered LSU football receiving records before heading to the NFL. Also inducted on Saturday were two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning and four-time WNBA All-Star Alana Beard.

Ascension Parish Little League baseball has captured the Louisiana state championship in the 12u division. The team will now represent the state in the Little League Southwest regional in Waco Texas. The winner will advance to participate in the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
