There was plenty of tension and arguing going on at the Capitol Wednesday as lawmakers began a special session on congressional redistricting.

Meanwhile legislative leaders today go before a federal judge in Baton Rouge to request more time to redraw a rejected district map. It was shot down because the judge said it didn’t reflect the state’s 1/3 Black voter population. Loyola University law professor Dane Ciolino says he doesn’t see this as anything that will alter the job of lawmakers to pass that new map…:

All four people believed to have been involved in the killing of an 80-year-old grandmother during a high school graduation shooting at Xavier University are in custody. Following the arrest of Brandon Rock, police say 49-year-old Frank Bartholomew and 40-year-old Laverne Duplessis and a 15-year-old juvenile turned themselves in Wednesday to the Orleans Sheriff.

The statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline did not go up once again overnight. It stands at $4.55 which is still up a nickel from the same time last week and 40 cents higher than a month ago.

Saban accused Texas A&M of “buying every player” in its 2022 recruiting class and Fisher retaliated saying it’s despicable that a reputable head coach can come out and say such things.

Charter schools in Louisiana are evaluated by test scores but since students couldn’t take the exams during the pandemic in 2020, New Orleans is looking at a change in policy. The plan is to alter the rules as a backup plan in the event of a future pandemic or hurricane. Despite the Vandy whistler’s disruption of the radio broadcast, the fighting Tigers of LSU answered with a crushing 13-2 victory over the Commodores in Nashville last night. Centerfielder Dylan Crews drove in four runs and second baseman Cade Doughty blasted two homers. LSU, which hit five home runs overall to increase its season total to 100, improved to 15-13 in the SEC. Vanderbilt dropped to 14-14 in conference play. Game 2 will be at 6pm this evening.

The SEC has issued a statement publicly reprimanding Alabama Coach Nick Saban and Texas A&M Coach Jimbo Fisher over the fighting words the two have exchanged this week regarding recruiting. Saban implicated Fisher and A&M “bought” every player on their team using name image and likeness. Fisher angrily responded saying they didn’t buy anybody and it’s despicable that Saban is a narcissist who is angry he didn’t get his way. In a statement the SEC reprimanded both coaches for violating conference rules of ethical conduct and public criticism of another member school.
