The Bayou State is expected to add over 14-thousand new jobs over the next year. That’s according to economist Dr. Loren Scott in his annual economic outlook report. Good news, sure…but Scott says that’s still 38-thousand jobs short of what pre-pandemic levels. He says we ARE expecting to go deeper into recession next year, but…:

He says a lot of federal infrastructure law money will mean loads of construction jobs. He also expects to see further jobs growth on 2024.

The news that OPEC was reducing daily oil production has had the expected result on gas prices. The state wide average cost of regular today is $3.20; 7-cents higher than just yesterday, and a dime higher than a week ago. Fuel analysts say try to budget spending between $3 and $4 a gallon through the winter.

 

Now officially on the gubernatorial campaign trail for 2023, Attorney General Jeff Landry looks forward to getting out there to discuss solutions to the state’s troubles…:

Lafayette Police are unraveling what led to a triple homicide, followed by the alleged killer committing suicide. LPD’s Cpl Matt Benoit says 36-year-old Andre Felix first shot a man in Lafayette, then killed a woman in Duson before returning to Lafayette and killing his wife, Kawanna Felix. He then took his own life at a relative’s home. Benoit says his motive is unknown…:

Gasoline prices are going back up, as OPEC continues to squeeze the West with reduced production and inflated oil prices. Louisiana AAA fuel analyst Don Redman says it’s even worse for truckers. Diesel is now at $4.50 statewide, and Russia-Ukraine war is why…:

Police in Lafayette are trying to determine what led to yesterday’s murder spree that ended with the suspected shooter killing himself. LPD Cpl. Matt Benoit says 36-year-old Andre Felix, of Lafayette, first killed a local man, stole a car and drove to Duson, killed a woman there, then drove back to Lafayette and killed his wife. He then shot himself. Benoit says the whole thing is tragic…:

He knew all the victims personally. The investigation is ongoing.

While talking of Acadiana, one of their own – Attorney General Jeff Landry – makes his desire to be our next governor official. In a campaign video released today, Landry says he’ll be hard on crime and strong on education, which he says is a contrast to the current administration…:

As OPEC announces a cut in oil production, the price of gas keeps rising. The statewide average price of regular today is $3.14. That’s up 3-cents from a day ago and up 21-cents from a year ago. Louisiana AAA’s Don Redman expects a slow increase in fuel costs through year’s end…:

Diesel fuel is now at an average price of $4.50 a gallon statewide.

Lawmen in New Orleans are trying to get a grip on shootings that occur ON Interstate 10. So far this year 25 people have been shot while in I-10 traffic; 7 have been killed, including the most recent victim…a 73-year-old man shot to death last Friday night. Police say road rage accounts for most. Personal disputes are behind the rest. No arrests have been made in 12 of the most recent incidents.

Shreveport Police say a fatal shooting last night in front of a local Dominoes Pizza was the result of a fight over a woman. 32-year-old Antonio Washington Jr. was killed. Police says it may have been self-defense, but the suspect is still at large.

 

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, under fire for spending tens of thousands of taxpayer money to travel first class, has relented and says she will reimburse the city nearly $30-thousand in flight upgrades, after initially refusing to do so. The New Orleans city attorney says city policy requires all city employees to seek the lowest fares available, OR reimburse the city for deluxe accommodations. Cantrell says she will abide by the decision…:

Some argue her recent “sister city” trip to France will not benefit New Orleans in any substantial way. Cantrell is also under scrutiny for supporting a teen carjacker and for using a city-owned French Quarter apartment as her own.

Good news for southwest Louisiana; U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy announces $46-million in federal money is heading to Cameron, Calcasieu and Vermilion Parishes to elevate about 200 structures so they will not flood.  Cassidy says it’s great news…:

The money comes from the infrastructure Law signed by President Biden earlier this year.

An employee with the LSU Foundation – a chief fundraising arm for the state’s flagship university – has been arrested for child pornography and other disturbing charges. Facilities coordinator Chase Kojis was fired after his arrest. In addition to the child porn charges, he faces impersonation and animal abuse charges. A statement from the university says he was terminated due to the “egregiously unacceptable” nature of the charges. Few details are available at this time.

Rapides Parish deputies make another arrest in false threats recently made against Rapides High last week. One juvenile has already been nabbed, but he appeared to be a secondary source of the messages. The student originally responsible has been taken into custody and charged with terrorizing and obstructing justice.

 

Crowley state Representative John Stefanski says he WILL run for state Attorney General a year from now. He made that official today. The 38-year-old Republican lawmaker is currently chairman of the House & Governmental Affairs Committee and is a lawyer. Stefanski says, if elected, he would work to make Louisiana safer and more secure…:
