It’s getting cheaper to fill up the car. According to Triple-A, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Louisiana is $2.98. It comes as the state braces for potential disruptions during hurricane season, which Fuel Analyst Don Redman says could impact both supply and prices.

A trooper from Hammond is on leave for an alleged DWI — and this would not be his first offense. State Police pulled over 28-year-old Isaiah Gilbert after they say they observed him crossing the divider while going southbound on I-110 in East Baton Rouge Parish early this morning. Gilbert was already on leave for a DWI back in March.
A woman is killed in a house fire in Oak Grove. Relatives pulled the 56-year-old woman out of the home, but she did not make it. State Fire Marshal deputies say the fire was caused by an elevtrical malfunction inside a portable air conditioning unit. They say they were unable to confirm the presence of working smoke detectors.

The man who has run the state’s prison system for the last 16 years is resigning. Louisiana Department of Corrections Secretary Jimmy Leblanc says health reasons are forcing him to step down. Former state lawmaker and House Criminal Chairman Joe Marino says the key to Leblanc’s success is that he was level headed.

LSU fans will invade Las Vegas this week for the Tigers’ season opener Sunday against USC. Mr. Fun’s Travel Owner Jason Ramezan says this trip rivals any he has been a part of, including the 2016 trip to Lambeau Field and the 2021 Rose Bowl.

Two people are killed in a shooting in New Iberia late last night. Police arrived at a home in the central part of town and found a man and a woman dead. Another woman was also shot; she was treated at a hospital and released. At this point, it’s unclear what led to the shooting. No word on any arrests.

Coroner Dr. Christopher Tape says Maggio was being treated for severe mental health issues and didn’t tell anyone he was going camping.
Tragedy in Acadia Parish as three people, including a Rayne police detective, are killed in a crash Friday afternoon. 27-year-old Javonta Flugence, his fiancee, Amber Davy; and their two-year-old daughter, Caroline, were killed in the single-family crash. State Police Trooper Peggy Bourque says it appears none was restrained…

Former LSU kicker Cade York was traded from the Browns to the Commanders for a conditional 7th round pick. Cleveland selected York in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft but cut him last year after making 24 of 32 kicks his rookie season. He was resigned this offseason and will now look to replace Brandon McManus in Washington.
The SEC has announced the conference baseball tournament will continue to be held in Hoover, Alabama through at least 2028. The Hoover Metropolitan Stadium has hosted the SEC Baseball Tournament since 1998, and the SEC has the option to extend the agreement through 2030.
The Saints play their final preseason game Sunday against the Titans. Wide receiver Chris Olave has been an impact player for the Saints since being drafted 11th overall in 2022. The Ohio State product has produced back-to-back one-thousand-yard seasons, but with new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s play action scheme Olave says he had to work on his run blocking this offseason…

Former LSU track star Sha’Carri Richardson dominated in her Olympic debut yesterday as she easily won the opening heat of the women’s 100 meter dash with a 10.94-second time. Richardson won the World Championship in the event in 2023 and is the favorite to win gold in Paris. She’ll race in the semi-final today at 12:50 with a chance to move on to the final scheduled for 2:20 this afternoon.
7 other former Tigers and six from the 2024 track and field team will be competing in the athletics events at the Paris Olympics over the next two weeks. Reigning Olympic and World Champion pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis will represent Sweden. He competed in qualifying early this morning and the medal round is set for Monday.
the US 3×3 women’s basketball team featuring former Tiger Hailey Van Lith has won their last three games to keep their gold medal hopes alive with back-to-back one point victories over France and Canada yesterday. The Americans struggled early losing their first three citing a lack of chemistry without much time playing together. They’ll face China today at 12:05. A win can secure a spot in the play-in round and give the trio a chance at automatically qualifying for the knockout rounds.
Construction at Alex Box Stadium is underway on the premium field level seating and bullpen relocation project scheduled to complete this fall. The Field Level Loges will add 52 and 106 seats along the left and right field lines respectively in the form of 36 four-person loges and 14 individual seats. Premium seating features in-seat food and beverage service and a built-in ice chest. The Tigers bullpen will be moved to beneath the right-field bleachers. Fans may request the new Field Level Loges now for the 2025 season, and the seats will be allocated based upon Tiger Athletic Foundation Philanthropic Priority Point rankings as of October 31.
