An Acadiana family mourns the loss of their teenage son. Reports say the body of 15-year old Quawan “Bobby” Charles was found in a sugarcane field by a law enforcement drone on Monday. Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Katherine Breaux.

Charles was reported missing on October 30th after a reported friend and his mother picked him up without permission from the family.  Reports say the family saw the teen’s body at the coroner’s office with a large knot on his head. IPSO spokesperson Katherine Breaux….

Family members believe someone hit Charles and hid his body. The death is under investigation.

Mardi Gras Guide Publisher Arthur Hardy says getting some guidance from City Hall is a start but the devil is in the details, and so far the details are vague while state mandates are specific…

A committee formed to investigate avenues for a pandemic Mardi Gras made recommendations like lower alcohol consumption, mandatory mask-wearing on floats and routes, and for vulnerable people to stay away from parades.

Hardy warns we’re getting awfully tight on time and sooner rather than later krewes must get explicit guidance on what the season will look like.

Superkrewe Bachus has already announced its intentions to roll down St. Charles on its usual route the Sunday before Mardi Gras Day.

Hardy says if Mardi Gras is severely limited or parades end up getting banned anyway celebrations will still be held and the party will pick back up in 2022.

It’s been nine days since Hurricane Zeta struck southeast Louisiana, knocking out power to approximately half a million customers in the state before Zeta moving across the southeast. Power has been restored to a majority of the area but approximately 9-thousand* remain without power. Governor John Bel Edwards thanked utility crews for their hard work and offered encouraging news.

Edwards says he’s seen plenty of damage along the coast in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes and the state doesn’t need another storm anytime soon so repairs can be made.

A 19-year-old from Angie is facing two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder linked to a shooting at a party in a Lafayette City park.

The shooting happened around 1 AM the morning after the Cajun’s October 14th 30-27 loss to Coastal Carolina, their only loss of the year. Lafayette Police Sgt. Nicole Oaks on how Jamyron Magee got caught…

The A & E television series “Nightwatch” returns to New Orleans. Filming of the twenty-five-episode reality series began filming this week and is expected to continue into 2021. Nightwatch follows New Orleans EMS paramedics and EMTs on their overnight shift from 4 pm until 4 am. Nightwatch premiered in January of 2015 and ran for 3 seasons and was just once again greenlighted.

Shell announces it will shutter its Convent refinery by the end of the month, laying off 700 workers and costing the St. James Parish government an estimated 24 million dollars a year in tax revenue. The facility has been around since 1967 and accounts for an estimated 27 percent of local tax revenues. Parish President Pete Dufrense says the hit to services will be substantial.

The Governor extends Phase Three until December 4th. Edwards says our current plateau of cases and hospitalizations is higher than the early summer though that saw us at our lowest transmission rates since the pandemic began. Assistant State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says much of the rise is being traced back to small, intimate gatherings between friends and family where people aren’t masking up.

Senator Bill Cassidy anticipates a COVID vaccine will be approved by the end of the year or first of 2021. Four trials are currently underway in the US. Cassidy says an independent board is overseeing the trials, and once a trial feels they have sufficient evidence they send findings to the FDA for approval. Then the FDA sends their findings back to the company to begin producing the vaccine.

Eyes are once again on the tropics as Tropical Depression* Eta is expected to move into the Western Caribbean after punishing Central America and re-intensity into a Tropical Storm. State Climatologist Barry Keim says Eta is taking an unusual path after a trip to Cuba a hard left is forecast into the Gulf over the next five days.

The closure will cost 3.8 million to local law enforcement. St. James Sheriff Willy Martin says the company has committed to cleaning out the facility.

US Senator and physician, Bill Cassidy says currently there are four active COVID-19 vaccine trials going forward, He anticipates a vaccine will be approved by the end of the year or first of January.
Cassidy says an independent board, not the government or pharmaceutical companies, is monitoring the effectiveness of the vaccines and they will decide if the vaccines should move forward in the approval process.

Next Thursday a Baton Rouge Judge will hear arguments in a case determining the constitutionality of a State House petition that claims to override the public health emergency declaration.
Fifteen states set new daily records for cases yesterday and the nation as a whole saw 100,000 new positive tests. Governor Edwards notes we’re actually doing pretty well comparatively.

Marshall Waters a Mangham Police officer died this morning after being shot in the line of duty October 17th. Police Chief Perry Fleming says Waters was shot during a routine traffic stop.

A nutria bounty bill is heading to the President’s desk.  South Louisiana Congressman Garret Graves serves on the US House Natural Resources Committee and sponsored the bill to combat the spread of the invasive species.  Graves says he’s been working on the legislation for about a year and half.

Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter is talking turkey after his city was struck with two hurricanes this year. Hunter’s issued a “Turkey Challenge” in hopes of raising funds to give away the holiday bird to those in his city that are struggling from hurricane recovery and bring some cheer.

Governor John Bel Edwards extended Phase Three Orders today until December 4th. Edwards said cases had plateaued, but they are beginning to trend upwards and that could change quickly for the worse as the holiday season approaches. He urged citizens to rethink gatherings to avoid spreading COVID.

President Trump has signed into law a measure that puts 12-million dollars a year into a nutria bounty program. Kevin Barnhart has the story…

A part-time Mangham police officer shot in the line of duty last month has died from his injuries. Marshall Waters was shot October 17th while attempting to make a routine traffic stop on a vehicle stolen during an armed robbery. Mangham Police Chief Perry Fleming says Waters, who was also a full-time EMT driver, was a dedicated public servant.
