It’s the first girl for Drew and Brittany Brees and they are holding off on announcing the girl’s name until its officially on the birth certificate. Brees also says this will likely be the last addition to their immediate family….

Saints Coach Sean Payton said today that outside linebacker Victor Butler has been released. Butler was signed by the Black and Gold during the 2013 offseason and he was expected to be a starter. But Butler never played a down for New Orleans, because of injuries. The Saints wrap up the preseason on Thursday night at home against Baltimore.

LSU Football Coach Les Miles is not letting the cat out of the bag as far as who will be the starting quarterback. Miles says Brandon Harris and Anthony Jennings will both play this Saturday against Wisconsin, but the team will not know who the starter is until Thursday. The head coach also says he doesn’t anticipate the battle for starting Q-B to be a distraction for his team….

Louisiana Tech Head Coach Skip Holtz has made a determination on who will start the Bulldogs season opener against Oklahoma. It will be Iowa transfer Cody Sokol, who will make his first collegiate start at quarterback on the Division One-A level.

The Houma Police Department is the latest law enforcement agency in Louisiana that will use body cameras. Chief Todd Duplantis says the Terrebonne Parish Council has purchased 84 cameras that will be equipped to an officers’ uniform. He says it should be a great benefit to their department

Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz has named Cody Sokol as the Bulldogs starting quarterback as he won the job over incumbent Ryan Higgins. Sokol is a fifth-year transfer from Iowa, but he’ll make his first division one collegiate start against the third ranked Sooners this Saturday.

It’s cut down day for the Saints. The roster must be reduced to 75 players. It’s been reported linebacker Victor Butler will be released. Butler was a key free agent acquisition going into the 2013 season, but never played a game for the Black and Gold, because of injuries. Quarterback Drew Brees was not at practice yesterday as his wife gave birth to their fourth child, a baby girl.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has been named a title sponsor for a new bowl game that will be played in Nassau. The game will be called the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl. It will take place on Christmas Eve, most likely featuring teams from Conference USA and the Mid-American Conference.

In other sports news…LSU baseball players Conner Hale and Andrew Stevenson have been named to Perfect Game’s Summer League All-America teams. The NCAA has approved a waiver so that Illinois State transfer Jamaal Samuel can play this season for the Warhawks mens’ basketball team.

It’s game week and that means for the 13th ranked LSU Tigers they are just five days away from opening the season in Houston against 14th ranked Wisconsin….

That’s Coach Les Miles giving a scouting report on the Badgers. Miles once again made the statement that his two quarterbacks, Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris will play, but would not say who would start.

Louisiana Tech’s starting quarterback for the season opener against Oklahoma is still a mystery. The Bulldogs released a depth chart today that has Cody Sokul or Ryan Higgins as the starter against the Sooners.

Grambling State head Coach Broderick Fobbs is also staying mum on who his starting QB will be week one. The Tigers are at Lamar this Saturday.

The Saints returned to practice field this afternoon for the first time since beating the Colts on Saturday night. Quarterback Drew Brees performed well in that game, but he was not at practice today. Still waiting to hear something official from the Saints, but it could be that Brees is with his wife Brittany, who is expecting to give birth to their fourth child this week.

In college basketball…LSU’s Jordan Mikey and Jarrell Martin have both been named to the All-Sophyomore team for the 2014-15 season by Athlon Sports. Mikey averaged nearly 13 points and 8 rebounds a game last season, while Martin averaged 10 points and four and a half rebounds, after a slow start to the season.

The Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s office says they’ve arrested a 21-year-old Jennings man on many charges for allegedly breaking in to a family member’s home and assaulting her in front of her two young kids. Spokesman Chris Ivey says the victim identified the suspect as 21-year-old Sebastion Hanks…:

A new panel called the Transportation Funding Task Force plans to meet next month and discuss ways the state can put more towards a better road and bridge system in Louisiana. Ken Perret is the president of the Louisiana Good Roads Association and he says this group will come up with ideas that can be voted on by the state legislature next year

Northwestern State opens the season Thursday against Missouri State. Zach Adkins is the starting QB and Daniel “Bear” Hazlewood is the back-up.

The Saints are back on the practice field this afternoon as training camp winds down. New Orleans looked sharp on Saturday in a 23-to-17 win over the Colts. Tight end Jimmy Graham says the offense is already in a rhythem, even though quarterback Drew brees didn’t play in the first two preseason games because of an oblique injury….

A state law requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a local hospital goes into a effect next Monday, but the Center for Reproductive Rights has filed  lawsuit in federal court challenging the law. An attorney for the center, Julie Rikelman, says the courts have blocked similar laws around the country…

Rikelman says the law, which was passed by the legislature earlier this year, will close all five of the state’s five abortion clinics. She says one of their arguments against the law is that the state didn’t give abortion doctors enough time to obtain the prvileges

The Saints look like they are ready for the regular season based on their performance on Saturday night as they defeated the Colts 23-17. Quarterback Drew Brees, who has been nursing an oblique injury, appeared in his first preseason game and threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns…

The Saints left for Indianapolis today, where they’ll play the Colts tomorrow night in preseason action. Quarterback Drew Brees will see his first game action of the preseason as he’s finally recovered from an oblique injury. Brees says it’s important for him to play well as he might not play again until the regular season opener….

Defensive backs Champ Bailey and Jairus Byrd are also expected to play tomorrow night. Both veterans watched the first two preseason games from the sidelines. Byrd has shown in practice that he’s recovered from offseason back surgery, while Bailey has to prove to the coaches that he has another good season in him at the age of 36. Kick-off tomorrow night is at seven o’ clock.

Wisconsin Coach Gary Anderson had said that a decision on who will start at quarterback against LSU would not be announced until game day. But reports out of Wisconsin today say that redshirt junior Tanner McEvoy will get the start over the incumbent Joel Stave. McEvoy is six-foot-six and he’s transfer from Arizona Western College, where he threw for 19-hundred yards and 25 touchdowns. He also rushed for 414 yards and six TDS in 2013.

We’re waiting on a decision from Louisiana Tech head Coach Skip Holtz on who will be the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. Cody Sokol and Ryan Higgins have been competing for that spot since the start of preseason camp. Holtz could make an announcement at seven o’ clock tonight.

McNeese State completes preseason camp with a scrimmage tomorrow morning in Cowboy Stadium. It’s open to the public and free of charge. The Pokes first game is September sixth at 22nd ranked Nebraska.

Several Saints players will see their first action in a preseason game on Saturday. Quarterback Drew Brees headlines that list, but we’ll also get a chance to see Jairus Byrd and cornerbacks Champ Bailey and Patrick Robinson. Byrd and Robinson are battling for the starting cornerback position opposite of Keenan Lewis.

Sophomore Ethan Pocic could be LSU’s starting center in the season opener against Wisconsin. Coach Les Miles said on his radio show last night that Pocic will play in the game, if not start. Elliot Porter was LSU’s starting center last season.

The Pelicans released their preseason schedule today. New Orleans will play two games at the Smoothie King Center, October 14th against the Rockets and October 16th versus the Thunder. They will also play the Dallas Mavericks on October 23rd at the Century Link Center in Bossier City. The Pels preseason schedule begins October fourth against the Miami Heat in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Ragin Cajuns and McNeese State will play each other in football in 2016. The game will be held at Cajun Field. These two teams played each other in 2007 and the Cowboys won 38-17.

UL Lafayette also announced that individual game tickets for this year’s season opener against Southern will go on sale Monday. You can purchase tickets at the Cajundeom Box Office or through Ticketmaster.
Louisiana Tech wants to get Hunter Lee more involved in the offense this season. The senior running back caught 16 passes and rushed the ball three times last year. Lee was a big part of the Bulldogs offense as a freshman, when he rushed for 650 yards and five touchdowns in 2011.

Zach Dasher is a businessman and nephew of “Duck Dynasty” TV star Phil Robertson. Dasher says if elected, he’ll do what the voters want

The Shreveport Police Department says two men are behind bars for allegedly beating up a 91-year-old man after they tried to rob him of casino winnings. Corporal Marcus Hines says just after midnight, they learned the elderly victim, who is a World War II Veteran, had just won a small jackpot at the Eldorado Casino…:
