LSU received a commitment from Notre Dame edge rusher Junior Tuihalamaka. The 23-year-old was one of the class of 2022 players who received a fifth year of eligibility from a temporary restraining order granted by a Baton Rouge judge. He started three games for the Irish each of the last two seasons and recorded four total sacks, 61 tackles and nine tackles for loss in 28 games.

He joins an edge room featuring Ole Miss transfer Princewill Umanmielen, Tennessee transfer Jordan Ross and five-star freshman Lamar Brown. Coach Lane Kiffin says Umanmielen has been impressive during camp so far.

Umanmielen had nine sacks as a Rebel last season.

Class of 2022 college athletes who are looking to return for a fifth season are now ineligible thanks to the NCAA’s stay request approved by the U.S. 10^th Circuit Court of Appeals. Any athletes included in individual injunctions or temporary restraining orders like the one granted in Baton Rouge on Wednesday are still eligible, but all other players will have to wait on further hearings.

Louisiana Tech’s touchdown leader from a season ago, running back Andrew Burnette, was one of the players included in the order, and he has returned to practice with the Bulldogs. Head coach Sonny Cumbie says he’s glad to have him back.

Burnnette and the other plaintiffs, including LSU commit Junior Tuihalamaka and former Tiger Jack Pyburn, are awaiting an August 31 hearing to decide if their eligibility will become permanent. Pyburn’s path back to college football may be more difficult than Burnette and Tuihalamaka’s because he, like many others in the case, already signed an NFL contract.

ULM received an over 2-million-dollar grant from the Louisiana Department of Health to expand its health science offerings. The funding comes through the Rural Transformation Project, hoping to provide more educated medical professionals to rural hospitals. Dr. Wendy Bailes, the dean of the ULM College of Health Sciences, says one of the three initiatives of the grant is to increase nursing school enrollment.

Beginning July 1, DCFS raised foster care board rate payments from 600 to 900-dollars a month, but stopped reimbursing families for incidental expenses. Danielle Eley cares for three children, and she says those reimbursements help pay for a lot.

Eley’s testimony helped Covington lawmakers convince DCFS Secretary Rebecca Harris to bring back the reimbursements for the remainder of this fiscal year.

LSU fifth-year senior offensive guard Bo Bordelon has earned his starting spot after four seasons as a backup. The son of former standout Tigers lineman Ben Bordelon, Bo says he had to earn his starting job after asking Lane Kiffin and his coaching staff for a fresh start. He made the switch from right tackle to left guard and put on extra weight this offseason and says his new offensive line coaches have made a big difference.

Any athletes looking to return are now ineligible until an expedited appeal hearing unless they have been granted another state-level injunction or temporary restraining order like the one issued by a Baton Rouge judge on Wednesday. That order was granted to over 30 college athletes, many of whom played at Louisiana colleges, including former LSU defensive end Jack Pyburn.

Former five-star LSU defensive tackle Dominick McKinley made headlines for all the wrong reasons during the start of preseason practice. McKinley got reps with the second and third teams at times, but head coach Lane Kiffin says he has really turned his camp around.

Former LSU National Pitcher of the Year and Most Outstanding Player of the 2025 College World Series, Kade Anderson, will make his major league debut with the Mariners tomorrow. Anderson is baseball’s top pitching prospect after posting a 10-and-1 record with a 1.06 ERA and 135 strikeouts in Double-A this season.

ESPN College Gameday announced it will be coming to Oxford for Lane Kiffin’s return to Ole Miss when LSU takes on the Rebels September 19. It will be the Tigers’ second Gameday appearance in the first three weeks of the season after LSU hosts the show during their September 5 season opener against Clemson.

LSU is a little over two weeks away from its season opener versus Clemson on September 5th. Head coach Lane Kiffin says quarterback Sam Leavitt did not look like himself in the spring as he recovered from his foot surgery, but he’s been impressive in preseason camp.

Kade Anderson was the ace of LSU’s staff in 2025 as the Tigers won their eighth national championship and on Saturday night he will make his major league debut against the Chicago Cubs. The Seattle Mariners are calling the 22-year-old left-hander up from the minor leagues, where he has dominated. He’s 10-1 with a 1.06 ERA at Double-A Arkansas.

The Saints held their final preseason joint practice against the Rams yesterday. Receiver Chris Olave sat out, as it was a rest day, so head coach Kellen Moore says it was a good opportunity for quarterback Tyler Shough to face a great defense without his top target.

The Saints play the Rams in their second preseason game tomorrow at 3 p.m. Moore did not name a starting quarterback, but Zach Wilson got snaps with the second team over Spencer Rattler yesterday.

Earlier this week the Saints had a fight-filled practice with the Cowboys. The NFL fined both franchises 500-thousand dollars.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey has filed an affidavit letter to East Baton Rouge Judge Ronald Johnson urging him not to allow basketball player RJ Luis to play for the LSU Tigers because he has signed a professional contract with two NBA teams. Luis’s hearing seeking another year of eligibility is Monday.

LSU football coach Lane Kiffin says he has been impressed by quarterback Sam Leavitt and the first-team defense throughout fall camp, but one of his biggest concerns is the depth of the offensive line.

Kiffin is alluding to the temporary restraining order issued by a Baton Rouge judge that granted 16 college football players a fifth year of eligibility and allowed them to enter the transfer portal. Former Tigers edge rusher Jack Pyburn was one of the plaintiffs included. Ole Miss D-tackle Zxavien Harris and tight end Dae’Quan Wright are both entering the portal already.

Longtime SEC and LSU administrator Herb Vincent announced he will be retiring from his role as SEC Associate Commissioner for Communications after this season. Vincent served over two decades at LSU and was inducted to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame last year.

The Saints and Cowboys were each fined 500-thousand-dollars by the NFL following their fight-ridden joint practice on Tuesday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter says the league sent a memo to teams before the start of training camp emphasizing sportsmanship during joint practices. The Saints did not have any scuffles in practices with the Rams and Jaguars. Head coach Kellen Moore says they made an effort to focus on on-field work today.

Offensive guard Cesar Ruiz and defensive tackle John Ridgeway both left practice early with injuries. The Saints kick off their preseason game versus the rams Saturday at 3 p.m.

UL Lafayette infielder Lee Amadee announced he will be returning for a fifth season with the Cajuns. He is taking advantage of the fifth season of eligibility awarded to class of 2022 signees by a Colorado U.S. district court ruling. Amadee has been a full-time starter for the Cajuns each of the last three years and hit .300 with 7 homers, 12 doubles and 54 RBIs last season.

Sixteen graduated college football players have been granted a fifth season of eligibility by a Baton Rouge judge, including many who have already signed NFL contracts. The temporary restraining order also allows them to enter the transfer portal. Former LSU defensive end Jack Pyburn is one of the plaintiffs in the case who could return after spending training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Former Ole Miss Stars, tight end Dae’Quan Wright, D-tackle Zxavien Harris and safety Wydett Williams could also return.

The Saints have joint practice with the Rams today ahead of their preseason matchup Saturday. At Tuesday’s practice with the Cowboys, more than 10 fights broke out between the teams. Linebacker Danny Stutsman says they hope to avoid that today, but they do help bring the team together.

UL Lafayette football coach Michael Desormeaux says quarterback Lunch Winfield has done a better job of taking what the defense gives him and has been more accurate through fall camp. He tries to complete 70-percent of his passes every day.

The LDWF is holding its first-ever recreational alligator hunting season, and the tag lottery opened today and runs through August 30^th. LDWF Secretary Tyler Bosworth says there are roughly three-million alligators in the coastal zone alone, and there are thousands of tags to give out.

The Saints will participate in their final joint practice of the preseason against the Rams today. Los Angeles is coming off a 12-and-5 season behind MVP Matthew Stafford, so Saints linebacker Danny Stutsman says they will be tested….

The injuries are piling up for the Saints. Running back Alvin Kamara will reportedly miss a month with a knee injury and cornerback Quincy Riley also could miss a few weeks, which means Martin Emerson Junior has a chance to be the starting cornerback opposite Kool Aid McKinstry.  New Orleans will play its second preseason game of the year on Saturday when it faces the Rams in Los Angeles.

A Baton Rouge judge has granted a temporary restraining order to allow 16 football players to return to college to play one more season of college football. Former LSU defensive end Jack Pyburn is one of the 16 plaintiffs in the case. Pyburn is currently competing for a roster spot with the Tampa Buccaneers, but as strange as it sounds, this order opens the door for Pyburn to leave the Bucs and return to LSU or play at another school. The players who filed the suit believe they should have a fifth year of eligibility as a result of the new rule that says current and future college athletes have five years to play five seasons.

The Cajuns open the season September 5^th against Lamar.

Eight LSU players were named preseason All-SEC by the coaches. LSU’s five first-team selections tie with Texas for the most in the league. The first-teamers are tight end Trey’Dez Green, left tackle Jordan Seaton, linebacker Whit Weeks, defensive end Princewill Umanmielen and punter Grant Chadwick. Cornerback DJ Pickett was named to the second team, and center Braelin Moore and safety Ty Benefield are on the third team.

Saints running back Alvin Kamara will miss the start of the season with an MCL sprain. He will be sidelined for at least a month after leaving the Saints’ joint practice with the Cowboys early yesterday. Locked On Saints podcast host Ross Jackson says Kamara has not played a full season since his rookie year.

Jackson says Kamara’s absence could open up the running back competition for Kendre Miller and Devin Neal, who both returned from injury yesterday.

Former LSU pitcher Paul Skenes’ struggles on the mound continued today against the Tigers. The Pirates got the 4-3 win, but Skenes gave up three earned runs, walked four batters and allowed four hits in just four-and-a-third innings. His season ERA is now 3.95, more than double each of his first two seasons in the majors.

ULM and Louisiana Tech made their renewed Sun Belt Rivalry official with the Radiance Technologies I-20 Showdown Rivalry Series. When the schools face off in the 12 varsity sports they both sponsor, teams will earn points for their programs that will be tracked all season. LA Tech Athletic Director Ryan Ivey says the schools will compete for an annual trophy, and fans should look out for their chance to weigh in on the design.

Saints running back Alvin Kamara could miss at least the next month after suffering an MCL sprain during yesterday’s joint practice with the Cowboys. He missed the final six weeks of last season with a similar injury. That means the Saints will start the season without Kamara, first-round pick Jordyn Tyson and possibly defensive end Cameron Jordan, although no timeline has been given on his return from a hamstring injury.

Cornerback Quincy Riley also left practice early with a groin injury, and wide receiver Ronnie Bell was carted off after getting overheated. The Saints will hold another joint practice with the Rams tomorrow before their preseason bout Saturday.

LSU basketball commit RJ Luis will have a preliminary injunction hearing on Monday as he hopes to join Will Wade’s roster. The 23-year-old guard was named 2024-25 Big East Player of the Year at St. John’s, but declared for the NBA Draft after the season. He signed a two-way contract with the Jazz and another deal with the Celtics’ G League affiliate but never appeared in a game due to injury.

Southern University edge rusher Ckelby Givens is returning to the Jags after graduating last year. Givens is one of the class of 2022 athletes granted a fifth season of eligibility under a Colorado federal judge’s injunction.

ULM and Louisiana Tech announced the new Radiance Technologies I-20 Showdown Rivalry Series between the two schools just 30 minutes apart. As the Bulldogs enter the Sun Belt, Tech Athletic Director Ryan Ivey says the championship spotlights a historic, heated rivalry.

Several fights broke out during the Saints and Cowboys joint practice in Oxnard, California and there were a couple of notable injuries. Running back Alvin Kamara midway through the two hour practice and second year cornerback Quincy Riley left practice with a groin injury. Saints receiver Ronnie Bell had to be carted off the field because he got overheated during one of the scuffles. In another exchange, Saints center Erik McCoy threw a Cowboys helmet into the air.

In 2024, the NCAA allowed coach to player radio communication and since that time, Charlie Weis Junior’s offenses rank number one nationally in total points scored. The first institution to earn 6.5 points clinches the annual Radiance Technologies I-20 showdown rivalry series championship.

The NCAA has published bylaws on new start dates for FBS and FCS football. Which means no more Week 0 and the FBS teams can start their season on Thursday August 26^th and FCS would start on August 19.
