The LSU baseball team will look to carry its three-game winning streak into Knoxville this weekend as the Tigers face Tennessee. The Vols may not have Tony Vitello as their head coach anymore, but LSU coach Jay Johnson says they’re still the same dangerous team they’re used to playing.

Tennessee goes into this weekend as a desperate team. The Volunteers are 3-and-6 in the SEC, and they were swept by Vanderbilt last weekend. Game one is tomorrow night at 4:30.

All of the other college baseball series will get underway tonight because of the Easter holiday. ULM is in second place in the Sun Belt, and the Warhawks host last-place Georgia State. The Ragin’ Cajuns are at James Madison. La Tech is at FIU.

UL-Lafayette football is two weeks into spring practice. The Cajuns have their starting quarterback in Lunch Winfield. But Coach Michael Desormeaux (DEZ-er-moe) says former Catholic High standout Daniel Beale, who saw significant action last season, is emerging as Q-B two.

Steven Milam homered twice from both sides of the plate and Derek Curiel hit a grand slam as LSU rallied from five runs down to beat Southern 16 to 6. John Pearson had another big day with a home run and four runs driven in.

ULM scored eight runs in the fourth inning on its way to a 14 to 3 win over Louisiana Tech in Ruston. The Warhawks had 17 hits, and they were led by catcher Marcus Aranda, who had a home run and drove in four runs.

For the second time this season, Southeastern Louisiana has defeated a team ranked in the Top 10. The Lions went to Hattiesburg last night and defeated eighth-ranked Southern Miss five to one. Brody Capps started the scoring with a two-run homer, and Luke Lirette was the winning pitcher.

Hayden Stringfellow homered twice, and McNeese outscored the Cajuns ten to seven, Tulane topped Nicholls 6-2, UNO over South Alabama two to one, and Mississippi State blanked Grambling 12 to nothing.

One of Lane Kiffin’s first moves as LSU football coach was retaining defensive coordinator Blake Baker. Kiffin praised Baker’s work over the past two years in Baton Rouge and says he wants the defense to reach a new level this season.

Kiffin announced former Evangel star and redshirt sophomore defensive end Gabriel Reliford will miss the 2026 season after tearing his ACL.

Will Wade was formally introduced as LSU’s new men’s basketball coach during an entertaining press conference yesterday. Wade says strong alignment and prior working relationships with current LSU president Wade Rousse and incoming senior deputy AD Heath Stroyer will help him build on the success he had at McNeese and elevate it in Baton Rouge.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore spoke to the media at the 2026 NFL owners meeting yesterday, addressing Alvin Kamara’s future for the first time since New Orleans signed Travis Etienne (AY-chan). Moore says he expects Kamara to remain in the running back room in 2026 and believes the entire group of backs can complement each other well.

Tiger Rag is reporting that Wade will have a couple of former head coaches on his staff, including former LSU Tiger star and head coach Johnny Jones, who will leave his job at Texas Southern. Also, Wade is expected to hire former Mississippi State head coach Rick Stansbury.

In baseball tonight…LSU will host crosstown foe Southern at 6:30. Tiger second baseman Seth Dardar is the co-SEC Hitter of the Week, as he had six hits, including four doubles and a home run in the series win over Kentucky.

At the NFL owners meetings, Saints coach Kellen Moore was asked about running back Alvin Kamara’s role on the team now that the team signed one-thousand-yard rusher Travis Etienne (Ay-Chan). Moore says Kamara is on the roster, and he can envision using both Kamara and Etienne.

Another major topic for the Saints this offseason is whether they will extend receiver Chris Olave to keep him in New Orleans long-term. Moore says the front office is engaged in ongoing conversations with Olave, noting that several factors go into negotiating a long-term deal.

Cajuns athletics director Bryan Maggard has added a major responsibility as he’s been named to the College Football Playoff selection committee. Maggard will be one of 13 individuals who will select the 12 teams that make the C-F-P.

Will Wade returned to the Maravich Center today, four years after he was fired at LSU for committing NCAA recruiting violations that would not be considered violations in today’s world of college athletics. Wade helped three teams reach the NCAA Tournament in his first run as head coach and plans to win at a high level in his second go around…

Big win for the LSU baseball team on Sunday as the Tigers rallied back from a seven-run deficit to beat Kentucky 17 to 10. West Monroe’s John Pearson got the Tigers back in the game with a grand slam in the third inning. Pearson is getting regular starts at third base and Coach Jay Johnson says he’s earned it…

Seth Dardar also had a big weekend and was named the SEC Co-Player of the Week. The Mandeville native hit a three-run homer to give the Tigers lead for good on Sunday. It was one of Dardar’s six hits for the series and he also had four doubles.

Northwestern State is tied for first place in the Southland with Lamar. The Demons Thomas Marsala was name Southland Hitter of the Week today. The Senior from Monroe hit two home runs last week and is second in the Southland home runs with eight.

A huge come-from-behind win for the LSU baseball team yesterday at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers got down seven to nothing in the third inning, but ended up winning 17-10.  West Monroe’s John Pearson got the Tigers back in the game with a grand slam in the third inning. Mandeville’s Seth Dardar hit a three-run home run in the sixth to give LSU the lead. Dardar flipped his bat way in the air and was fired up as he circled the bases…

LSU is now 4-and-5 in SEC play and they’ll be at Tennessee this weekend.

ULM nearly swept the Ragin Cajuns. U-L Lafayette avoided the sweep with a four to nothing win over the Warhawks. Still a positive weekend for ULM, who is now 6-3 in the Sun Belt.

The first place team in Conference USA, Jacksonville State, swept Louisiana Tech.

Following LSU’s season-ending loss to Duke in the Sweet 16, Hall of Fame coach Kim Mulkey addressed a report that she is retiring. A social media post during the game reported that this was Mulkey’s last game. Mulkey shot the rumor down in the postgame press conference…

After missing five games last season due to an ankle injury, linebacker Whit Weeks decided to return to LSU for his senior season. Weeks says a big deciding factor in his decision was Blake Baker remaining the defensive coordinator.

Despite a valiant comeback, the LSU women’s basketball team’s season ended last night as Duke hit a buzzer-beating shot to defeat the Lady Tigers 87 to 85. Ashlon Jackson hit the winning shot as the ball spun around the rim before going through the hoop. LSU was down by 11 points with 7:35 to go and took the lead on Mikaylah Williams’ two free throws with nine seconds left. Williams had 22 points, and MiLaysia Fulwiley had a career-high 28 points.

Duke had 20 offensive rebounds and had 21 second-chance points. LSU finishes with a 29-6 record, they were 1-6 in games decided by seven points or less.

LSU baseball also lost last night, falling to Kentucky seven to four. Casan Evans suffered the loss as he walked six hitters in six innings and gave up four runs. The Tigers are 2-and-5 in the SEC and will look to even up the series at 2 PM.

Big win for ULM baseball as the Warhawks went down to Lafayette and defeated the Cajuns five to three to improve to 5-2 in the Sun Belt. Davis Mauzy’s three-run home run in the sixth inning was the difference.

Jacksonville State blanked La Tech four to nothing. Northwestern thumped Nicholls 12 to 2 to improve to 9-and-4 in the Southland. Southeastern outscored UNO 13 to 11. Abilene Christian beat McNeese six to four. Texas Southern topped Grambling 15 to 8.

Offensive tackle Jordan Seaton spoke to the media for the first time this week since transferring to LSU. Seaton, rated as the top offensive lineman in the transfer portal, says his decision to come to Baton Rouge factored into how professional the program is run.

LSU begins a pivotal baseball series tonight against 19th ranked Kentucky. The Tigers are 2-and-4 in SEC play and just lost a series at home last weekend and it would not be good if LSU dropped a second consecutive home SEC series. The Wildcats are 4-2 in league play, 20-and-4 overall. First pitch is at 6:30.

Also tonight…the Cajuns host ULM. Louisiana Tech hosts first place Jacksonville State, Nicholls hosts Northwestern, Southeastern hosts UNO.

LSU’s new starting offensive tackle Jordan Seaton says he’s worked out with former Neville and Tiger star Will Campbell. Seaton says seeing Campbell’s mindset toward football played a key role in his decision to end up in Baton Rouge.

The LSU women’s basketball team takes on Duke in a Sweet 16 matchup tonight. The Lady Tigers boast the nation’s top scoring offense, averaging 108  points per game in the postseason. Coach Kim Mulkey credits her team’s depth for its high-scoring success.

ULM introduced Ryan Cross as its new men’s basketball coach yesterday. Cross spent eight seasons as a Warhawk assistant before spending the last six years as an assistant at U-A-B. He says his teams will pride themselves on pushing the ball.

Will Wade is back in Baton Rouge as the LSU men’s basketball coach four years after he was fired for committing recruiting violations. Wade has signed a seven-year deal that will pay him four-million dollars in his first season. Tiger Rag magazine editor Glenn Guilbeau says the fan base is ready to “Boot Up” again….

Wade was previously the head coach at LSU from 2017 to 2022. His teams reached the NCAA Tournament three times, and the Tigers won an SEC regular season title in 2019.

In a statement, Wade said it was not an easy decision to leave North Carolina State after just one season, but it was a chance to come home to a place that shaped him, and where the passion for basketball runs deep and expectations match the opportunity.

The LSU baseball Tigers host 19th ranked Kentucky for the start of an SEC series. The 17-and-9 Tigers are coming off a 15-5 win over Louisiana Tech. First baseman Zach Yorke broke out of a hitting slump as he belted two home runs against the Bulldogs. Coach Jay Johnson says the two homers should boost Yorke’s confidence…

Kentucky enters this game with a 4-and-2 SEC record. They swept Alabama and lost a series to Ole Miss last weekend.

The Ragin Cajuns host ULM this weekend. UL Lafayette is 2-and-4 in the Sun Belt, while the Warhawks are 4-and-2. Big series for Louisiana Tech as the Bulldogs host Jacksonville State this weekend. The Gamecocks are 6-and-0 to start Conference USA play.

Northwestern State is in a three-way tie for first place in the Southland and the Demons visit Nicholls this weekend.

Speculation is ramping up that North Carolina State coach Will Wade could return as the Tigers’ men’s basketball coach. Multiple reports say LSU is planning to hire Heath Schroyer as a senior administrator. It was Schroyer who hired Wade at McNeese a year after he was fired at LSU. Tiger Rag Editor Glenn Guilbeau first reported on this story on March 13th and he says it’s an effort to make the job more attractive to Wade as he could work for Schroyer, LSU President Wade Rousse and LSu Board chair Lee Mallett. Guilbeau says all three men are big supporters of Wade

As of right now, Matt McMahon is still the Tigers men’s basketball coach, but that could change on April 1st when Wade’s buyout at N-C State drops from five million to three million dollars.

 

The second-seeded LSU women’s basketball team is preparing for a Sweet 16 rematch against third-seeded Duke. LSU beat the Blue Devils 93-77 in Durham in December. LSU scored more than 100 points in its two tournament games last weekend in Baton Rouge, but assistant coach Joe Schwartz says how the Tigers play on defense will determine how far they advance….

ULM will introduce its new men’s basketball coach today. Ryan Cross returns to Monroe after serving as an assistant coach at UAB for six seasons. The Blazers competed in the postseason in four of Cross’ six seasons in Birmingham. Before he was at UAB, Cross was an assistant coach at ULM for eight seasons.
