On the second night of the NFL draft, the Saints selected two players from Georgia. In the second round, with the 42nd overall pick, New Orleans took defensive tackle Christen Miller, who had 23 tackles and four tackles for a loss in 2025. Miller calls himself a versatile player…

And then with the 73rd overall pick, the Saints took tight end Oscar Delp. In his four seasons with the Bulldogs, she caught 70 passes for 854 yards and nine touchdowns.

Two LSU Tigers were taken on Friday…safety AJ Haulcy is headed to Indianapolis, while receiver Zavion Thomas was selected by the Chicago Bears. Garrett Nussmeier is still waiting to be selected.

Tough loss for the LSU Tigers last night in Starkville. LSU led by four runs at one point, but lost to Mississippi State ten to eight in 11 innings. Pitcher Casan Evans was the scheduled starter, but he didn’t pitch due to arm discomfort. LSU was one pitch away from winning 8-7, but State tied it in in the ninth and won it on a two-run homer in the eleventh inning.

In other baseball action…Louisiana Tech leads Missouri State eight to two in the seventh inning. Declan Dahl struck out seven and Trey Hawsey had three runs driven in. The game resumes at 1 PM today.

The Cajuns rallied from a two-run deficit to beat Arkansas State three to two. Donovan LaSalle tied the game with a two-run homer and Steven Spalitta drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning.

Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana both won, while McNeese lost to UT Rio Grande Valley eight to seven in 11 innings. Grambling thumped Alcorn 11 to 4.

The Saints used the eighth overall pick in last night’s draft to take Arizona State receiver Jordyn Tyson, who caught 61 passes for 711 yards and 8 touchdowns for the Sun Devils last season. Tyson says he can’t wait to team up with Chris Olave to give Tyler Shough an added target.

Tyson is six-two, 203 pounds. He’s known as a great route runner who can go up and get 50-50 balls.

The Kansas City Chiefs moved up three spots to number six to take former LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane. Delane is excited to play for the Chiefs who have won three Super Bowls since the 2019 season…

Tonight is the NFL draft and the Saints have the eighth overall selection. There are several players the Black and Gold are considering  and they are Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate, edge rushers Rueben Bain Junior from Miami and David Bailey from Texas Tech. LSU cornerback Mansoor Delanne is also a possibility as he’s expected to be a top ten pick.

Former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier will not be drafted in the first round, but he’s expected to be selected tomorrow in the second or third round. NFL Draft expert Mike Detillier of WWL Radio says Nussmeier struggled in 2025 because of an injury, but when healthy he does a lot of things well.

Former LSU safety AJ Haulcy is also expected to be a second round pick.

 

UL Lafayette football will wrap up spring practice with a game Saturday. Head coach Michael Desormeaux says he wants his team to take full advantage of the work they’ll have the opportunity to get in.

The LSU Board of Supervisors has approved a new contract for athletic director Verge Ausberry. Ausberry would receive one-point-five million by the end of 2027 and it would increase by 100-thousand dollars each year. The deal runs through 2030. Proposals to increase ticket and parking prices for LSU men’s and women’s basketball are also on the agenda.

The Zurich Classic gets underway today at the TPC Louisiana in Avondale. Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick and Brooks Koepka are some of the big names in the 148-man field.

Wisconsin transfer Dilin Jones has also had a good spring and has been getting snaps with the first team.

In college baseball…Nicholls defeated Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi six to one as Caston Thompson hit his 12th home run. This game actually started on March 6th in Corpus Christi, but it had to be restarted from the first inning due to an appeal won by the Islanders. Nicholls is now 14 and 10 in Southland play.

LSU erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning and went on to beat UNO ten to seven last night. In that fifth inning, Steven Milam had a two-run double, and a pair of freshmen, Omar Serna and Jack Ruckert, each had two-run singles. Reliever Daniel Lachenmayer struck out five of the seven hitters he faced.

LSU heads to Mississippi State for a series this weekend, and they will not have one of their best players for that series and the rest of the season, as Jake Brown has a broken hamate bone in his wrist and will undergo surgery today.

La Tech left 15 runners on base and lost to McNeese four to three. Isaiah Keller had three hits, including two doubles, and scored the winning run in the eighth inning for the Cowboys

ULM topped Northwestern State four to one. Micah Dean hit a two-run homer, and Seaver Sheets struck out seven for his second win of the season.

The Cajuns clobbered Grambling 15 to 7. Lee Amedee and Drew Markle homered.

Cecilia football star Braylon Calais (COL-ay) is the fourth commitment in LSU’s 2027 recruiting class. He joins four-star quarterback Peyton “Pop” Houston out of Shreveport, whom Calais says played a major role in his decision to commit to the Tigers.

Lane Kiffin has been open about his commitment to a healthy lifestyle, as he avoids alcohol and works out regularly. He’s emphasized to his coaching staff the importance of staying in shape and has recently taken an active role in helping them improve their health at the facility.

A devastating blow to an LSU baseball team that’s already teetering as right fielder Jake Brown, is done for the season with a broken hamate bone. Tiger Rag Editor Glen Guilbeau says LSU’s offense is already struggling and now they will play the rest of the season without one of its best players…

The injury news does not stop with Brown, starting pitcher Cooper Moore is also out for the season with a stress fracture in his throwing elbow that will need surgery.

LSU leads the SEC in wild pitches with 59 on the season, which is 21 more than the second-most in the conference. Coach Jay Johnson says both the pitchers and catchers have to do a better.

LSU men’s basketball coach Will Wade’s first transfer portal commitment is 6-foot-7, 220-pound small forward Mo Dioubate (dee-ah-BOT-Tay), from Kentucky. Dioubate has also played at Alabama, and between the two schools, he’s averaged six points and five rebounds a game for his career, mostly as a bench player. The New York native will be a senior next season.

 One of the state’s best high school athletes, Braylon Calais, has committed to LSU. In the 2024 season, Calais helped Cecilia win a state championship in football. He is a freak of an athlete. At Ceclia, the four-star recruit plays running back, wide receiver, and the defensive secondary. LSU sees him as a receiver in college. He’s the fourth commitment for the 2027 Class.

Louisiana Tech and Conference USA have reportedly reached a settlement in principle as Tech looks to join the Sun Belt Conference this summer. A previous report said Tech would pay CUSA more than 8 million dollars so they can join the Sun Belt for the 2026-27 athletic season.

LSU hosts UNO tonight

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reports that doctors at the NFL combine found a cyst on the spine of former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier that caused his persistent oblique pain. Pelissero reports Nuss has been symptom-free since the Senior Bowl. If the issue returns, a minor surgery can fix it, and he would be back in two to three weeks.

UL-Lafayette dropped two of three games to Troy over the weekend to lose the series. Coach Matt Deggs says the outcome came down to a few missed opportunities, including a misplayed ball in the outfield that sparked a five-run sixth inning for the Trojans in Friday’s 7-6 loss.

Four-star athlete Braylon Calais from Cecilia High School has committed to LSU. Calais has played running back, receiver and defensive back for the Bulldogs. He chose LSU over Ole Miss, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Miami.

The LSU Tigers were swept for a second consecutive time in SEC play for the first time since 2021 as Texas A&M dominated the Bayou Bengals, outscoring them 22-8. Ole Miss swept LSU the weekend before in Oxford, and Coach Jay Johnson knew this part of the schedule would be difficult.

In other college baseball, Louisiana Tech won its third Conference USA series in a row. The Ragin Cajuns and ULM lost their respective Sun Belt series. Lamar swept Northwestern State. Nicholls swept Stephen F Austin and Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi took two of three from McNeese.

 

The LSU gymnastics program nearly won their second national championship in three years on Saturday, but the Sooners won by percentage points over the Tigers. It was the Tigers’ fourth runner-up finish in program, while Oklahoma won its eighth national championship. Coach Jay Clark says  O-U is the gold standard, but LSU is not going away…

This is the final week of spring practice for LSU, and one of the more notable performers has been running back Dilin Jones, who has moved to the top of the depth chart.  Jones was Wisconsin’s starting running back last season before his year was cut short by turf toe. He says his decision to come to LSU, despite the Tigers already having a crowded running back room, came down to the coaching staff.

The LSU baseball team was swept again, for the second straight weekend, as Texas A&M took three from the Tigers at Alex Box Stadium. Yesterday, LSU lost five to two as the Tiger hitters were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, and starting pitcher Zac Cowan gave up four runs in 2.2 innings. LSU is now 6-and-12 in SEC play, Coach Jay Johnson is not giving up on the season and expects the players to keep fighting…

The Ragin Cajuns suffered a tough loss yesterday as Troy hit a walk-off grand slam to beat U-L Lafayette 15 to 11. The Trojans won the series two games to one.  U-L Lafayette will host Grambling on Tuesday. The Tigers are coming off a series loss to Prairie View.

ULM only scored six runs for the weekend and lost its home series versus  Arkansas State.

Louisiana Tech won its third straight Conference USA series as the Bulldogs took two of three from Kennesaw State. Tech won the rubber match yesterday four to three to improve to 11-and-7 in league play. Trey Hawsey hit his 11th home run, and Landon Fontenot threw five innings of no-hit ball.

Northwestern State has fallen out of first place in the Southland after they were swept by Lamar, losing a doubleheader to the Cardinals yesterday.

LSU gymnastics just missed out on its second national championship in three years, falling just short to Oklahoma. Oklahoma has won eight national championships. That’s four runner-up finishes for LSU.

LSU lost its fourth straight SEC game last night as the Tigers fell to 10th-ranked Texas A&M ten to four. The Aggies hit three home runs, and LSU once again struggled on the mound with eight walks. Casan Evans suffered the loss as he allowed six runs in five plus innings. Game two has been moved up to 4:30.

Louisiana Tech won its eighth straight last night as the Bulldogs got another great pitching performance from Declan Dahl, who struck out 13 for his sixth win of the year. Thomas Allen struck out five for his third save.

The Ragin Cajuns gave up five runs in the sixth inning and lost to Troy seven to six. ULM scored two runs in the first inning, but that’s all they got and lost to Arkansas State three to two.

Lamar blanked Northwestern State five to nothing, U-T Rio Grande Valley over Southeastern Louisiana eight to six. McNeese defeated A-and-M Corpus Christi nine to four and Nicholls over Stephen F Austin nine to four.

LSU gymnastics will look to capture its second national championship in three seasons today. Sophomore Kaliya Lincoln says the Tigers must continue to rely on what they’ve done all season.

The meet begins at three PM. LSU will compete against defending national champion Oklahoma, SEC Champion Florida and Minnesota is the Cinderella of the foursome.

Former LSU point guard and ex-Lafayette Christian star Jada Richard has committed to Ole Miss. Richard averaged nearly 10 points a game for the Lady Tigers last season. Coach Kim Mulkey has already found her replacement by signing All-Big 12-performer Jada Williams from Iowa State.

LSU football has received a commitment from receiver Ah’Mari Stevens. The wideout from Florida was committed to Miami. The speedy receiver is a four-star recruit.
