Saints veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan made some notable comments regarding free agency on Terron Armstead’s “The Set” podcast. Matt Paras, who covers the Saints for The Baton Rouge Advocate, says Jordan sounds open to leaving the Saints.

And Paras says Jordan also wants to make sure he’ll get enough sacks to have another double-digit sack season.

 

The Louisiana Tech women’s basketball team will participate in the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament after missing out on the NCAA Tournament. Even though the Lady Techsters didn’t make the big dance, head coach Brooke Stoehr (“store”) doesn’t want her players to forget the special things they were able to do this season.

The Lady Techsters won the regular season Conference USA Championship It’s La Tech’s first outright title in 15 years.

Louisiana Tech baseball had a walk-off win last night as the Bulldogs defeated Central five to four. Trey Hawsey had the game winning hit.

And Southeastern Louisiana shutout eighth ranked Oklahoma three to nothing. The Sooners are in Baton Rouge on Thursday to begin a three game series against LSU.

Not the most exciting game, but the LSU Tigers beat Grambling seven to one last night. Just seven hits for the Tigers.  Omar Serna had two of the hits, including a solo home run that started a four-run eighth inning. Grant Fontenot and Mavrick Rizy each pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three. The Tigers begin a series at home against Oklahoma on Thursday.

The eighth-ranked Sooners were in Hammond last night, and Southeastern Louisiana shut out Oklahoma three to nothing. Five Lions pitchers held O-U to four hits and Nik Toups struck out five in three innings.

Elsewhere… 12th-ranked Southern Miss blanked Nicholls four to nothing and Trey Hawsey delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth as Louisiana Tech topped Central Arkansas five to four.

Tonight, the Cajuns are at Houston, ULM hosts UNO

And Venezuela beat the United States three to two to win the World Baseball Championship.

The LSU baseball team returns to the field tonight as an unranked team. It’s the first time since April 2024 that the Tigers are not ranked. LSU begins a nine-game homestand tonight against Grambling, who is 5-and-13 but coming off a SWAC series victory over Alabama State.

The U-L Lafayette baseball team is ranked in the top 25 for the first time since 2024. The Cajuns entered this week’s polls at number-25 in the D1Baseball rankings, number-22 in the Perfect Game rankings and number-25 in the National College Baseball Writers Association rankings. Head Coach Matt Deggs says he’s happy for his players and the fans.

The Cajuns will look to stay hot this week in Texas, beginning with a trip to Houston Wednesday before heading to Texas State for a weekend series.

 

The McNeese men’s basketball team leaves for Oklahoma City today as they will play Vanderbilt on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It’s the Cowboys third straight invite to the Big Dance and athletics director Heath Schroyer says other teams in the Southland are trying to catch up to McNeese…

A hearing in state court set for Thursday over the U-L System-Louisiana Tech lawsuit against Conference USA has been canceled. That’s because Conference USA believes the case should be heard in federal court. Tech suing so it can play in the Sun Belt Conference next athletic season, but Conference USA released a football schedule last week that has Tech as a member of CUSA.

Ruston High football and basketball star Ahmad Hudson has unveiled his top six college choices, LSU, Texas A-and-M, Miami, Nebraska, U-S-C and Missouri.

For the first time since the 2024 season, LSU is not ranked in any of the major college baseball polls. The Tigers are coming off a series loss to Vanderbilt, where they gave up 33 runs. LSU is 14-and-7 on the year and will begin a nine-game homestand tonight by hosting Grambling, which is 5-13.

The 19th-ranked LSU softball team finally got in the win column in SEC play by beating Texas A-and-M seven to two. The Tigers are now 1-and-5 in league play.

Conference USA is now seeking to have the lawsuit filed against them by the University of Louisiana System on behalf of Louisiana Tech, moved to federal court. That means a hearing scheduled for Thursday in state court has been canceled. Tech is suing Conference USA to move to the Sun Belt for the 2026-27 athletic season.

NBA…Zion Williamson had 27 points as the Pelicans beat the Mavericks 129 to 111 last night.

The 15-and-5 Cajuns are now ranked in three national polls. D-1 Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association have them ranked 25th, and Perfect Game has U-L Lafayette ranked 22nd. The Cajuns’ pitching staff on the weekend is led by left-hander Andew Hermann, who tossed his second complete game of the season on Saturday. Coach Matt Deggs says Hermman’s unpredictability makes him extremely difficult for hitters…

The LSU Lady Tigers are a two-seed and will play Jacksonville on Friday at 5 PM and their second-round opponent could be either Texas Tech or Villanova. After LSU rejected Tiger Rag, the Louisiana Illuminator and WAFB-TV’s Freedom of Information requests on direct payments to players, a lawsuit was filed. LSU says the payments are protected under federal student privacy laws. But Tiger Rag argues that the state’s public records law requires the university to make public, compensation that the school is paying to players. Tiger Rag Executive Editor Todd Horne says the main objective of the suit is clarity.

D-1 Baseball and Baseball America has dropped the Tigers out of their Top 25 polls after LSU lost its SEC opening series to Vanderbilt. LSU is 14-7. The Ragin Cajuns are ranked 25th by D-1 baseball after beating South Alabama to begin Sun Belt play.

LSU right fielder Jake Brown drove in six runs as the Tigers avoided the sweep at Vanderbilt, beating the Commodores 16 to 9.

ULM started Sun Belt play by sweeping Texas State. The Cajuns won a series over South Alabama. Louisiana Tech swept Delaware.

The Sun Belt and Conference USA have released football schedules for 2026 that feature Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs would like to join the Sun Belt on July 1st, but Dave Schultz, host of the Locked on Sun Belt Podcast, says Tech missed a deadline to depart CUSA….

At the boys basketball championships…Marksville won its second state title in three years, beating the Madison Jaguars 66-45. Armonii Benjamin was the Most Valuable Player with 21 points and hit five three pointers…

Paul Skenes was winning the pitcher as the U.S. defeated the Dominican Republic two to one to advance to the WBC Championship game.

Painful start to SEC play as the LSU Tigers rallied from a six-run deficit to take a 12-10 lead only to give up three runs in the ninth inning and lose to Vanderbilt 13 to 12. Gavin Guidry gave up a two run walk off home run to Logan Johnstone. LSU starting pitcher Casan Evans gave up six runs in three innings and Cooper Williams walked all four hitters he faced. On the positive side, Jake Brown had three more hits and a home run.

In other action last night….the Ragin Cajuns dropped their Sun Belt opener losing three to two to South Alabama. ULM doubled up Texas State 12 to 6. Dayne Wray hit a home run and drove in five runs.

Louisiana Tech blanked Delaware five to nothing. Trey Hawsey and Colby Lunsford hit home runs and Declan Dahl threw seven shutout innings and struck out eight.

In the Southland,,,Southeastern, Northwestern State, McNeese won, while Nicholls lost….Grambling beat Alabama State nine to five.

Louisiana Tech’s attempt to join the Sun Belt Conference next athletic season has taken an interesting turn. Both Conference USA and the Sun Belt have released their football schedules for next season and they both feature Louisiana Tech. The U-L System has filed a lawsuit on behalf of Tech in an effort to get the courts to rule that they are allowed to join the Sun Belt on July 1st.

Both the Louisiana Tech men’s and women’s basketball teams are in the Conference USA Championship games. The men beat Missouri State 69 to 66 yesterday and will play Kennesaw State tonight at 7:30.

The Lady Techsters beat Liberty 61 to 48 and will play Missouri state at 4:30 today.

Southern women will play Alabama State for the SWAC Title at noon. The Southern men are also playing for a SWAC title tonight as the Jaguars will face Prairie View A-and-M at 6:30.

In boys basketball…Lincoln Prep, Gibsland-Coleman, Ferriday, Lacassine and Brusly won state titles yesterday.

The attorney for the plaintiffs, Scott Sternberg, says while the game may have changed, the law has stayed the same.

The Saints have brought back 30-year-old linebacker Kaden Elliss on a three-year deal. Elliss has led the Falcons in tackles the last two seasons, and he was a team captain. Before he was a Dirty Bird, he played for the Saints in 2022 and had a career-high seven sacks. Coach Kellen Moore says it’s hard for offensive coaches to game-plan against Elliss.

No NCAA Tournament for the McNeese women’s basketball team. The top seeded Cowgirls lost to Stephen F Austin in the Southland Tournament Championship game yesterday.

The Lady Techsters will play Liberty in the Conference USA semifinals at 5:30 PM.

 

And five champions will be crowned at the boys basketball tournament in Lake Charles.

The executive editor of Tiger Rag Magazine, Todd Horne, along with two other reporters have filed a lawsuit seeking information on the revenue sharing deals that LSU has with its student athletes….

The McNeese women’s basketball team’s 21-game winning streak came to an end yesterday as the Cowgirls lost to Stephen F Austin71-59  in the Southland Tournament Championship game. So no NCAA Tournament for the McNeese women.

La Tech and Southern men’s basketball teams advanced in their tournaments. And will play in the semis today.

Several of the new Saints players met with the media on Thursday, including new starting left guard David Edwards, who signed a four-year, 61-million dollar deal with the Black and Gold. Edwards was on Buffalo last season and he says he watched some film on New Orleans while scouting another team late last season, and what he saw caught his eye.

For the third year in a row, the McNeese Cowboys are in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. McNeese beat Stephen F. Austin yesterday, 76-59, to win their third straight Southland Conference Tournament title. Senior guard DJ Richards says earning their way back into the NCAA Tournament is an accomplishment no one can take away from them.

McNeese will find out Sunday who they will play next week and where.

Louisiana Tech and Southern are still capable of earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Jaguars are a three-seed and they will play sixth seeded Arkansas Pine Bluff tonight. The Bulldogs are a four-seed in the Conference USA tournament and will play Middle Tennessee at 5:30.

The Ruston Boys Basketball will play Central tonight in a Division one non-select semi-final game. Championship games begin tomorrow at noon with Lincoln Prep playing Southern Lab.

 

The 13th ranked LSU baseball team begins SEC play tomorrow night as the Tigers host Vanderbilt. Sulphur’s Jake Brown is leading the Tigers offensively as the junior right fielder is hitting .413 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs. He credits his offseason work to helping him get off to a fast start this season…

The Pelicans have been playing better since Dejounte Murray returned from an Achilles injury. New Orleans is 7-and-3 in its last 10 games and they won last night over Toronto 122 to 111. Murray had 27 points and six assists.

Former LSU star Aaron Nola pitched five shutout innings as team Italy eliminated Mexico from the World Baseball Classic. Italy’s win also means the U-S advances to the quarterfinals to play Canada on Friday night.
