The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office says an HIV-positive man who bit three officers has been charged with intentional exposure to AIDS. They say when two officers attempted to serve a warrant on 25-year-old Justin Freeman last month, he began fighting them and bit them during the scuffle. Freeman also bit a correctional officer while being booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center Monday. Freeman also faces two charges of second degree battery.

In college basketball last night, Louisiana Tech stretched its home winning streak to 35 games after defeating LSU-Shreveport 82-49. Alex Hamilton led the Bulldogs with 18 points and six assists as Tech improves to 7-1 on the season. The Bulldogs will look to extend their home winning streak to 36 when they host UL-Lafayette Saturday afternoon.

Southern’s five game winning streak came to an end in a 70-56 defeat by Grand Canyon University. The Jags led by two at the half, but the Antelopes started the second half with a 24-9 run and held on for the win. Southern looks to bounce back when they face Wyoming Thursday night.

Northwestern State just couldn’t keep up with the 16th ranked Baylor Bears last night, losing 75-62. The Demons were down by just two at halftime, but Baylor pulled away in the second. Northwestern falls to 1-7 and won’t hit the court again until December 19th when they host Missouri Valley.

Tonight, UL-Lafayette and McNeese State renew their I-10 basketball rivalry at the Cajundome. This will be the 91st meeting between the two teams. The Ragin Cajuns lead the series 55-35.

Although LSU running back Leonard Fournette is not a Heisman Finalist, he was named to the coaches All-SEC first team. Fournette’s teammate, tackle Vadal Alexander also made the first team. Center Ethan Pocic is a second-team selection, while defensive backs Tre’Davious White and Jamal Adams also made it on the second team.

Four Louisiana Tech Bulldogs made it to the Conference USA All-Conference first team. They are running back Kenneth Dixon, wide receiver Trent Taylor, defensive tackle Vernon Butler and safety Xavier Woods.

Louisiana Tech is preparing to play Arkansas State in the New Orleans Bowl. We learned yesterday that two Arkansas State football players have been arrested on drug charges, starting defensive end Chris Stone and backup receiver Tyler Trosin were taken into custody on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine or cocaine. Arkansas State Coach Blake Anderson says he’s aware of the situation, but declined further comment.

ULM’s committee in charge of finding a new football coach says they’ve narrowed the pool of candidates down to a handful of individuals. However, none of those individuals names have been released.

I-10 in West Baton Rouge Parish reopened this afternoon after a 12 hour closure due to an overnight crash involving 7 vehicles including 6 18-wheelers. State Police say thankfully nobody was seriously injured, but it took cleanup crews most of the day to off-load the overturned big rigs and clear them off the roadway.

The Pelicans are off tonight. They lost again last night as Boston beat the Pels on their hom floor 111-93. Ryan Anderson had 18 for New Orleans. It’s being reported the Pels could be interested in trading Anderson for Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris.

Tonight in college basketball…the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs look for their 34th straight victory at the TAC when they host LSU-Shreveport. The Southern Jaguars are at Grand Canyon University. And Northwestern State is at 25th ranked Baylor.

And former LSU Tiger and Saints star and current broadcaster for the Black and Gold, Hokie Gajan, will undergo chemotherapy as he battles cancer. Deuce McCallister will fill in for Gajan on the radio broadcasts. Gajan will miss at least Sunday’s game in Tampa Bay.

State Police say a 31-year-old man is under arrest accused of killing his ex-wife and her new boyfriend in East Feliciana Parish. Trooper Bryan Lee says Eric Sanders of Norwood was apprehended without incident…:

The victims are identified as 46-year-old Kem Smith of Clinton, and 39-year-old Clifton Cowan Jr of Zachary.

State Police was able to open I-10 in West Baton Rouge Parish to all lanes of traffic mid afternoon after cleaning up an overnight crash involving a passenger vehicle and six 18-wheelers. They believe fog was a factor when a car met traffic congestion and stopped around 3am, then was hit from behind by a mac truck before 5 other 18-wheelers slammed into the crash. There were only 2 minor injuries. It took most of the day to clear the interstate.

Starting with the senior class 2018, Louisiana high school students who attend public school will be required to apply for financial aid for college. The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that Lafayette was the lowest in the nation for employment decline from October last year to October this year. But the Lake Charles area has the nation’s third best percentage of job increases. LSU Economist Dr. Loren Scott says two LNG export terminals are under construction in southwest Louisiana…:

The struggling oil and gas industry is hurting Houma-Thibodaux where about 2800 jobs were lost in the same time period and in Lafayette it’s 4300.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued a statement today in response to Republican Presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s call to block all Muslims from entering the US. Landrieu says it’s absolute disgraceful poisonous rhetoric which is reminiscent of David Duke’s racism. He says the way to defeat ISIS is to strengthen ties with Muslims, not alienating them with ignorant, hateful statements.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s office says an HIV positive man who bit two deputies and a correctional officer has been arrested on charges of intentional exposure to the AIDS virus and battery. They say 25-year-old Justin Freeman of Lake Charles allegedly fought with arresting deputies and bit them so hard it drew blood. The man is being held with no bond.

State Police is investigating a seven vehicle crash that occurred on I-10 in West Baton Rouge Parish early this morning…causing major traffic delays and a huge mess. Sergeant Nick Manale says troopers believe a stopped vehicle was hit from behind by 6 mac trucks and thankfully only two people were injured — but not seriously. He says there were many factors involved with this crash…:

State Superintendent of Education John White says about 15,000 seniors don’t seek federal aid and are leaving tens of millions of dollars on the table. He says students will be allowed to opt out of filling out financial aid applications, but parents will have to sign a waiver so they at least have a choice…:

The AP is reporting that Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne will be making twice what he is now once he becomes the commissioner of administration for Governor-elect John Bel Edwards. As a statewide elected official, Dardenne currently earns a salary of $115,000, but as the Edwards Administration’s chief budget adviser, Dardenne will make $237,500 a year.

State Police say a disgruntled ex husband allegedly killed his former wife and her boyfriend at a home in East Feliciana Parish near Clinton. The victims are identified as 46-year-old Kem Smith of Clinton, and 39-year-old Clifton Cowan Jr of Zachary. Trooper Bryan Lee says troopers were asked to investigate after the bodies were found Sunday…:
