A bill that would have banned edible THC products in Louisiana failed in the legislative session that ends today.  Crescent Canna CEO Joe Gerrity opposed the bill saying, a lot of what he heard on the Senate and House floor was nonsense and the lawmakers that are working to ban the products lack understanding of them.

Louisiana lawmakers have approved a 48-billion dollar budget that includes a two-thousand dollar stipend for teachers and hundreds of millions of dollars for infrastructure projects. House Appropriations Chairman Jack McFarland says teachers can expect their two-thousand dollar stipend earlier next school year

McFarland says the goal is to make that two-thousand dollar stipend a permanent raise, but they need to see what future projections look like first.

McFarland says another highlight of this budget is what they decided to do with 771-million dollars in extra money they had to spend. He says instead of putting it into the Rainy Day Fund, they will spend it now

Early childhood advocates are not happy with this budget as nine-million dollars in funding to assist low income families pay for pre-k classes was cut. McFarland says part of the reasoning behind this…federal dollars from the pandemic that went towards early childhood education has expired

Both cars from the incident have been recovered and are being processed for evidence.

The victim was a 10th grader at East St. John High School, and Tregre says after talking to Henry’s homeroom teacher, there’s no evidence to believe she incited the violence.

Lawmakers failed to approve a bill to ban all edible THC products but instead decided to compromise with regulations. Sean Richardson has more.

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says the state will not renew a contract for a Louisiana float to appear in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Nungesser says they didn’t see a boost in tourism inquiries last year, but they did with the New Year’s Day Rose Parade. It showed a $28 million return on investment.

In Reserve, a 16-year-old Aariah Henry was gunned down while she was a passenger in a car that authorities believe was targeted by another car early Sunday. St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre says after talking to the victim’s teachers at East St. John High School, they don’t believe Henry incited the violence.

The LSU Baseball team won two contests on Sunday to set up today’s Regional Championship game against North Carolina in the Chapel Hill Regional. The Tigers beat Wofford in the afternoon and took down the Tar Heels eight to four last night. Thatcher Hurd was the big story. The right-hander has struggled, but had his best outing of the year against U-N-C, giving up just two runs and striking out six. Hurd says Coach Johnson gave the entire team confidence they could win two games yesterday

LSU Eunice is national champions again in division two junior college baseball as the Bengals defeated Brunswick Community College nine to three for their eighth title. Tulane’s season also came to an end yesterday with a 17-7 loss to U-C Irvine. Louisiana Tech, Grambling and Nicholls were eliminated on Saturday, failing to win a game in their respective regionals.

The Minnesota Vikings have made receiver Jordan Jefferson the highest paid non-quarterback in the NFL as he’s inked a four-year, 140-million dollar contract extension. The former LSU Tiger has nearly six-thousand receiving yards after just four seasons in the NFL.

Former LSU offensive lineman Alan Faneca is on the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame ballot, so is former Tigers Coach Nick Saban.

The Tigers defeated Wofford 13-6 in an elimination game yesterday and defeated North Carolina eight to four last night to force a winner-take-all all game today against the Tar Heels. Josh Pearson hit home runs in both games and says this team is always in the fight

Instead of Louisiana’s predicted job growth of 40-thousand, ULL Acadiana Business Economist Gary Wagner says it looks like it will be an average year for the state with 10,000 jobs. He says the predictions are based on companies across the country not specific necessarily to Louisiana, so it’s a good lesson not to put too much stock into job forecasts.

On the upside, he says the state has seen growth no significant losses.

ULM will receive a grant of $750-thousand over the next three years from the state’s Entertainment Development Fund to create opportunities for students looking for a film industry career. Associate Professor of Communication, Dr. Chris Mapp says when it comes to the potential of the new program, the sky is the limit.

Today is the final day of the legislative session. State lawmakers approved a budget for the upcoming fiscal year. It contains a two-thousand dollar stipend for teachers on top of their regular salary. But early childhood education received a nine-million dollar cut. That could mean fewer low income students will receive state dollars to participate in early childhood programs.

St. John Parish detectives are looking for suspects in the early morning murder of a 16 year old girl they say was specifically targeted. Sheriff Mike Tregre says Aariah Henry of Reserve was shot yesterday as she sat in her car on Airline Highway near Central Avenue in Reserve. It happened just after two am as the suspect vehicle pulled alongside Henry’s and opened fire. We’re told Henry was rushed to the hospital, but died of her injuries.

The first regular legislative session during Jeff Landry’s tenure as governor has ended. And LaPolitics dot com publisher says it established Landry as Louisiana’s most powerful governor in modern history, as he accomplished much of what was on his agenda. But not everything went the governor’s way. Alford says not getting the constitutional convention he wanted was a blow to the governor and many big picture ideas were put on hold in this session.

In other news from the session, a highly publicized bill that did not make it through the process was one that would have banned THC in products that could be consumed in Louisiana. Supporters of the legislation say the THC in these products can get a person high. Opponents of the legislation argued it would kill the state’s growing THC market.
