Police in New Orleans say someone shot a 15-year-old boy while he was driving on I-10 Wednesday. The boy died at a local hospital. Police seek a white Honda Accord and ask someone to come forward with a tip that catches the guilty party.

 

The state has approved a deal that will mean the long-shuttered Diamond Jack’s Casino in Bossier City re-opening. Mississippi-based Foundation Gaming has been approved to purchase and renovate the property, with a $200-million budget. Foundation’s Les McMackin says they will bring something new and different to Bossier…:

An update on this week’s officer-involved shooting at the St. Mary Parish courthouse. State Police identify the man killed as 34-year-old inmate Chad Williams of Berwick. During a scuffle with a parish corrections officer, Williams got the deputy’s handgun and shot himself in the head. The investigation is ongoing. Once complete it will be handed over to the parish D.A. for review.

The mother of Ronald Greene made remarks Thursday evening after indictments were handed down against five law enforcement officers who were at the scene when her son was beaten and tasered by cops before he died in May of 2019. Mona Hardin had harsh words for state leaders for allowing state police to continue their behavior and mistreatment of people of color…:

Legal Analyst Tim Meche says the grand jury failed to charge the officers with murder or even manslaughter. Foundation’s marketing operator Les McMackin says they plan to open the Shreveport-Bossier City area’s first land-based Casino by December 2024 with a nearly $200 million renovation.

The company plans to re-brand the 26-acre property with a new name which has yet to be revealed. McMackin says plans for the project feature new construction on a 47,000-square-foot casino, renovation of the 405-room hotel, at least three new restaurants, and….

Foundation hopes to provide a fresh, customer-friendly experience in what they believe to be a great project for the market and the community. McMackin says the company needs to provide something new and different into the market

New numbers released today from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show Louisiana continues to add jobs.  Louisiana Workforce Commission Secretary Ava Cates says November’s unemployment rate of 3.3% marked the sixth month in a row the state has either tied or set a record low.

This month, Louisiana also set a new record low for non-seasonally adjusted unemployment, which reached 2.9%. That month-to-month jobs count, which includes seasonal and temporary work, set records in three categories—the unemployment rate, the number of employed, and the number of unemployed.  She says all of those mean good news for employers and those seeking jobs. Cates says jobs are being added in all corners of the state and in all parts of the economy.

She says there are ten thousand openings on the workforce commission’s web page, and the state has programs to help employers and people looking for work.

She says job seekers who are looking to upgrade their skills can get free training on the Workforce Commission website.

A Baton Rouge woman has been found guilty of the poisoning of her husband AND a boyfriend. A jury convicted Meshell Hale of killing the men in 2015 and in 2016 for insurance money. Hale’s sentencing is next week. She’s expected to get life.

Three and a half years following the fatal arrest of Ronald Greene, a Black motorist, criminal charges have been handed down against five law enforcement officers involved in his arrest. Master Trooper Kory York faces the most significant charge, negligent homicide, while the others have been charged with malfeasance and obstruction of justice. Attorney Ron Haley urges District Attorney John Belton to prosecute these individuals to the fullest extent of the law…

Senator John Kennedy wants FEMA to explain how they calculate their Risk Rating 2.0. Kennedy says it does no good for the federal government to offer flood insurance if people can’t afford it.

The Revenue Estimating conference says the state has an extra $925 million in this year’s budget and $608 million for the next year. A Union Parish Grand Jury has indicted five law enforcement officers involved in the 2019 fatal arrest of Ronald Greene. Greene, a Black motorist, was beaten and tased by officers before he died. State Police originally told the family Greene died in a car crash following a lengthy police chase that ended on a rural highway in Union Parish.

Master Trooper Kory York faces the harshest charges, one count of negligent homicide and ten counts of malfeasance in office. Greene’s mother, Mona Hardin, was in Baton Rouge when the indictments came down…

The National Weather Service says the two tornadoes responsible for three deaths in Louisiana between Tuesday and Wednesday were E-F-2 tornadoes, both with wind speeds of 115 to 130 miles per hour. Despite all of the damage from the tornado outbreak, Governor Edwards does expect it to be enough to qualify for federal assistance.
