The Las Vegas Police Department announces Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been arrested in connection to an incident at a club the night before he played in the Pro Bowl. They say the investigation began Saturday after an individual reported they had been battered by the suspect – later identified as Kamara. He was arrested Sunday evening and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Almost two years into the pandemic, behavioral health experts warn of the long-term mental health impacts that COVID has made on society. Patrick Bordnick, Dean of Tulane University’s School of Social Work says the mental consequences of the pandemic won’t go away overnight.

According to Tulane research mental health challenges have risen 33 percent since the pandemic, and more than a quarter of those surveyed reported prior mental health issues. Bordnick says they know from previous traumas there’s a high rate of substance abuse relapse under stressful events.

Before the pandemic, Bordnick says there was already a shortage of mental health providers and it’s only become exacerbated. Bordnick hopes their research highlights the dire need for more assistance and reminds those suffering to be kind to themself.

The study also recognizes gains made towards telehealth and the need to increase access to mental health services.

Boudreaux says, if you think you’ve encountered a human trafficker and one or more victims call the number, but do NOT intervene…:

The campaign will also feature messages on gas station pump TV’s. Boudreaux says if you witness an actual crime call 911, then the trafficking hotline.

LSU is the first college football program to partner with sports apparel giant Fanatics and OneTeam that will allow fans to purchase fully customizable jerseys of their favorite players, with the athletes earning dollars for each one sold. Athletic department spokesperson Cody Worsham says this makes LSU more competitive in the new world of NIL.

LSU players jumped at the chance to participate, with the Tigers voting to fully opt-in to the program in less than a day’s time. Worsham says with LSU being the first to join, others will be quick to follow.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office says two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing then selling someone’s catalytic converter taken off a truck at a boat launch in Vinton. They say during the execution of the arrest warrant, they obtained more evidence the suspects were involved in additional catalytic converter thefts across Calcasieu Parish. Kory Moss of Sulphur and William Hawkins of Kinder were booked on theft charges and police believe more charges are likely.

Baton Rouge Police Sergeant L’Jean McKneely whose agency was also involved in a busting a catalytic converter theft ring this week says it’s hard to prevent it from happening because the equipment can be removed in a matter of minutes…:

The Pelicans held off the Denver Nuggets last night picking up a 113-105 victory. It was a big night for Herb Jones who shot 18 points out of his game high 25 in the 4th quarter. Those 18 points are the 3rd most by any Pelicans rookie in a single period. New Orleans travels to face Houston Sunday at 6.

The Senior Bowl takes place this afternoon at 1:30pm in Mobile, Alabama and LSU’s Damone Clark has been named the top linebacker on the American team.

LSU baseball shows up on another preseason top 10 poll as USA Today ranked the Tigers number 7 on Friday. The season begins February 18th.

In College hoops today the injury plagued No. 25 LSU men’s basketball team hopes to rebound their losing streak as they visit Vanderbilt. Coach Will Wade says his team is so physically and mentally exhausted he opted to let the team do yoga one day last week instead of a full-blown practice. Tipoff today is 5pm in Nashville.

Louisiana Tech is coming off a loss to Florida Atlantic heading into a matchup today with Florida International. ULM is at Little Rock, UL Lafayette is at Arkansas State, Northwestern State is at McNeese, UNO is at Incarnate Word, Southeastern is at Houston Baptist.

Detectives say 101 stolen catalytic converters were found in an East Baton Rouge couple’s chop shop. Baton Rouge Police Sergeant L’Jean McKneely says it’s almost impossible to prevent one from being stolen because they can be removed in a matter of minutes.

Louisiana hasn’t hit the peak of crawfish season, but that doesn’t mean that mudbugs aren’t on the menu. Mark Shirley, LSU AgCenter and crawfish specialist, says the recent wave of cold temperatures may have slowed the growth of this year’s harvest, but it hasn’t stopped it.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has reported that the Saints are seeking to interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy, possibly as soon as Saturday. Bienemy, a New Orleans native, has been with KC since 2013, and has overseen the team’s offense since 2018. The Chiefs have been to the postseason in eight of the last nine seasons, winning the Super Bowl two years ago.

Mobile sports betting has been live in Louisiana for a week, and already the state has made history. Houston business owner “Mattress Mack” crossed state lines to place a bet of more than $4.5 million on the Caesars Sportsbook app for the Cincinnati Bengals to win Super Bowl 56. It is the single-largest mobile wager of all-time and the second-largest Super Bowl wager ever, trailing only a $4.9 million bet on the 2002 Super Bowl. The payout would top $7.7 million.

The New Orleans Pelicans are back in action tonight, as they visit the Denver Nuggets. The Pels are 0-2 against Denver this season. Billy Hernangomez and Garrett Temple are out, Josh Hart is listed as questionable. New Orleans is 3-4 over its last seven games.

Next Sunday, Joe Burrow will try to become the first Heisman-trophy winning quarterback to win a Super Bowl since Jim Plunkett in 1983, and only the third ever, along with Hall of Famer Roger Staubach. If Burrow had his way as a kid, he never would have been under center…but now there’s no place he’d rather be or a position he’d rather play.

Detectives in Baton Rouge found over 100 stolen catalytic converters in a local couple’s chop shop. Matthew and Brooke Gibson are under arrest; facing numerous charges, including possession of narcotics. Baton Rouge Police Sergeant L’Jean (el-JEAN) McKneely says there’s been an increase in catalytic converter thefts and they are investigating ties to Gibson’s operation…:

He says preventing converter theft is tough, because thieves can get one off your car in just minutes.

 

Caddo Parish deputies report two people hurt today when an auto transport truck collided with a freight train on state Highway 169 in Greenwood. The highway was closed down for quite a long while the accident was cleared. The truck driver was not hurt, but two members of the train crew were taken to the hospital.

Is it too early to enjoy some hot boiled crawfish? No indeed, says Mark Shirley with the LSU Ag Center. With crawfish farmers enduring harsh conditions to deliver one of the state’s signature culinary staples, Shirley says there’s no better time to show support by buying a few pounds…:

The House and Senate Governmental Affairs Committees both approved new Congressional district maps similar to the current one, which means just one majority-minority district. Slidell Senator Sharon Hewitt says, based on the 2020 Census data, she doesn’t believe a second majority-Black district can be drawn and pass legal muster. She says proposals that DID do that would actually reduce the chances of a Black candidate being elected…:

In the House Committee, New Orleans Representative Royce Duplessis was not happy with a bill moved forward that has only one majority black district. He questions bill sponsor, Speaker Clay Schexnayder, about fairness…:

COVID. The state Health Department reports today that there are 70 fewer people hospitalized with the virus than yesterday. By number, that’s 1821. About 70-percent of those still in hospital beds are not fully vaxxed. Just over 7000 new cases reported today; mostly the Omicron variant. This leads to hope the pandemic may winding down.
