Louisiana will see the coldest temperatures of the winter over the next few days as overnight lows will drop below freezing for most of the state through Sunday morning. Ag Commissioner Mike Strain is urging livestock owners to take the necessary precautions to protect their animals from these frigid temperatures…:

He says to not forget heat and shelter for any outdoor cats on your property, and make sure to check under your hood in the morning, for cats or other critters, before you crank up your vehicle.

Diamond Jacks Casino in Bossier City appears to be moving forward with reopening its doors, after a plan to move that casino license to Slidell failed to win voter approval. The state Gaming Control Board has approved DJ’s request for a slight delay in presenting its reopening plan for approval.  The request indicates a plan is coming.

After three years of work, and at a cost of $150 million, the new terminal at Lafayette Regional Airport officially opened to the public today. Executive Director Steven Picou couldn’t be happier with today’s debut.

Picou says the $150 million dollar facility was completed in three years, on-time and on budget.

A local one-cent sales tax collected in 2015 along with federal and state funding paid for the new terminal that has 966 parking spots, two screening lines, five departure and arrival gates and a new baggage handling system.

Picou says the new LFT terminal is 120-thousand square feet…

Governor John Bel Edwards was on hand in Shreveport for the announcement of American Electric Power’s investment of $100-million to develop a transmission control center in the city.  Edwards says the plan will create 20 direct jobs with an average annual salary of $115 thousand.

The governor also announced that AEP’s new 77-thousand square foot transmission facility will be the first business to locate in the Resilient Technology Park in Shreveport.

In addition to attracting other companies to the area, Edwards says the investment comes at a fortuitous time after much of the state experienced lengthy power losses after major winter storms and hurricanes last year.

And like the state, Edwards says AEP has made a commitment to net carbon emissions by 2050.

Resilient Technology Park, located near 1-20 and Greenwood Road is one of more than 100 available sites certified by LED for industrial projects.

UL-Monroe has an opportunity to take down the Sun Belt Conference’s top team when they host Troy tonight. The Warhawks are coming off of an upset of Texas State last weekend; a game Monroe won with only seven active players due to Covid protocols.

Taking down the Trojans will be no easy task. Warhawks head coach Keith Richard says that Troy is a deep, talented, and dangerous team.

The LSU men’s basketball team has lost back-to-back games for the first time this season. The Tigers 67-70 defeat dropped them to 3-3 in conference play.

Tari Eason led the Tigers with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

In the game, LSU was called for 25 personal fouls that led to 32 Alabama free throw attempts, 17 more than the Tigers. Will Wade, received a technical foul in the second half after angrily protesting the discrepancy. Wade says it was time to take a stand.

LSU faces Tennessee on Saturday.

LSU won’t take to the baseball diamond for nearly a month, but excitement is already reaching a fever pitch with the Tigers sitting eighth in the DI Baseball Preseason Top 25.

Head coach Jay Johnson brings in the top recruiting class in the country and an offensive approach that should produce plenty of runs.

The offense is headlined by sluggers Dylan Crews and Jacob Berry, but Aaron Fitt, co-editor of the D1 website said that LSU’s lineup has an embarrassment of riches from top to bottom.

The Pelicans will close out a three-game road trip tonight in New York City against the Knicks. New Orleans has lost two in a row and three of its last five games.

Among the misinformation about COVID vaccines is their effect on fertility. Shreveport OB/GYN Dr. Leonard Weather, Jr. says it’s actually just the opposite of the vaccine. Weather says for men it’s COVID that’s been shown to reduce sperm count, not the vaccine.

Weather says it’s extremely important for pregnant women to be vaccinated and boosted and even women who are trying to get pregnant to reduce miscarriages and premature births.

Temperatures took a dive last night as a powerful cold front moved into Louisiana. State climatologist Barry Keim says the winter weather could be here for a while.

The cold front has arrived in Louisiana and expect temps to drop today if they haven’t already in your neck of the woods. State climatologist Barry Keim says residents should be prepared for a long, cold weekend, and take extra precautions to protect themselves from the frigid weather.

Louisianans woke up to cooler temperatures this morning. David Grubb reports on how long the winter weather is going to last.

Governor John Bel Edwards’s office announces two-point-six billion dollars in Army Corps of Engineers Funding for Louisiana projects. Edwards says the supplemental disaster relief bill includes over two billion dollars in funding for coastal and other flood protection projects. Millions will also be spent on reinforcing levees.

The state set a record for highway traffic fatality deaths with 997 in 2021. That’s according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation. There were 828 deaths in 2020. DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson says it’s a sign we need to be more cautious while driving…
