Despite voting for President Biden’s recently passed Infrastructure Bill, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy says he cannot support the “Build Back Better” bill. Cassidy says the Democrats are disingenuously selling the legislation to American’s as costing about $2-trillion, and the Congressional Budget Office scores the act otherwise.

Governor John Bel Edwards says despite a House committee’s vote against adding the COVID vaccine to the school immunization schedule he still plans to do so. The rule will go into effect for the Fall of 2022 school year and like all vaccines, parents have the ability for their child to opt-out.

For now, the COVID vaccine would only be added to the list of shots required to attend school for those 16 and up, since the F-D-A has fully authorized the vaccine for those 16 and older.

Republican House Speaker Clay Schexnayder told members of House Health and Welfare that asking parents to fill out forms to opt-out of the vaccine is too cumbersome.

It would go into effect for the Fall of 2022 school year and like all vaccines, parents have the ability to have their child opt-out of the vaccine.

A helicopter pilot is dead after his chopper crashed on the I-10 Bonnet Carre Spillway yesterday. Lafayette City Court Judge Michelle Odinet is facing calls for her to step down after a video taken from her home shows several people using the “N” word while watching a video of an attempted burglary on their property. Odinet says she was sedated at the time of the video and has zero recollection of the video and the disturbing language used in it.

Who will be the quarterback when the Tigers face Kansas State in the Texas Bowl on January fourth. Interim head coach Brad Davis says they hope Garrett Nussmeier will be the guy, as they seek a waiver from the NCAA for him to be able to play in the bowl game but still maintain his redshirt season. If Nussmeier doesn’t play, it’s unclear who will start at Q-B.

The 19th ranked LSU men’s basketball team improved to 10-0 as they easily defeated Northwestern State 89-49 last night. LSU leads the nation in scoring defense and held to the Demons to 15 points in the first half, the lowest point total allowed by LSU during the Will Wade area. Tari Eason came off the bench to score 18 points to lead LSU.

The Tigers are in Bossier City this Saturday night to play Louisiana Tech at the Brookshire Grocery Arena. The Bulldogs won their fourth straight last night as they defeated the Pilots 84-70. David Green scored a career-high 21 points to lead Tech.

Sophomore Jordan Brown had 13 points and 14 points, but the Ragin Cajuns lost to 14th ranked Houston 71-56 at the Fertitta Center.

ULM hit 11-three-pointers and beat Stephen F Austin 82-69. Southeastern Louisiana was 6-for-33 from the three-point line and the Lions lost to Louisville 86-60. And UAB beat Grambling 79-61.

The Louisiana Craft Brewers Guild will begin a lobbying push to convince lawmakers to change the regulations in place for the craft brewing industry. Cary Koch says Louisiana is in a “last mover” position when it comes to locally produced beer and he hopes today’s billboard campaign in Lake Charles will help spur legislators into action.

A helicopter crashed onto I-10 yesterday over the Bonnet Carre Spillway in St. Charles Parish in foggy conditions. Officials say the pilot was the lone fatality and the chopper also knocked out electricity for area residents when it hit an Entergy Louisiana transmission line.

House Speaker Clay Schexnayder, who’s been on the record against COVID vaccine mandates told members of the House Health and Welfare Committee that asking to opt-out of the vaccine is too cumbersome.

At this time the FDA has only approved the Pfizer COVID vaccine for ages 16 and older and has granted Emergency Use Authorizations for ages five and older. The requirements at Louisiana schools would only pertain to ages that have full FDA approval. Edwards says it’s vital for young people to be vaccinated also.

LSU football has started bowl practices as they get ready to play Kansas State in the Texas Bowl on January 4th. With Max Johnson in the transfer portal, who will start for the Tigers at quarterback? LSU interim head coach Brad Davis says they hope it’s Garrett Nussmeier, even though if he plays another game this season he could lose his redshirt season

So LSU is seeking a waiver from the NCAA in order to have Nussmeier play in the bowl game and still count this as a redshirt season, even though it would be the fifth game he’s appeared in this year. If the waiver is denied, who will start at quarterback? Jontre Kirkland is a possibility, a former Q-B at Lutcher High. Davis says Kirkland will play in the bowl game but didn’t say which position…

The pilot of a Bell 407 helicopter is presumed dead after the aircraft crashed early this afternoon on the eastbound lanes of the Bonnet Carre Spillway in St. John’s Parish.  No other vehicles were said to be involved and officials say fog may have played a role in the tragedy.  The FAA is on the scene investigating.  The chopper was left in blackened rubble after obviously bursting into flames. Traffic on I-12 East is being diverted until the crash scene can be investigated and cleared.

 

A state police detective who investigated if troopers used excessive force in the death of Ronald Greene answered questions from the Senate Select Committee on State Police Oversite and told lawmakers his recommendations were ignored by his superiors. LSP Sgt. Albert Paxton answered a series of questions by Monroe Senator Katrina Jackson.

LSU interim coach Brad Davis said today the Tigers are hoping freshman Garrett Nussmeier can play in the Texas Bowl against Kansas State on January fourth but maintain his redshirt season. Nussmeier is the only scholarship quarterback on the roster, but if he plays in the Texas Bowl, he can not use this as a red-shirt season and still have four years of eligibility left. Davis says they have several quarterbacks taking reps, but didn’t say who, but is confident they’ll be able to move the ball against the Wildcats.

The Saints are an eleven-point underdog heading into Sunday night’s match-up with the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So will Coach Sean Payton use the big point spread as extra motivation????

Longtime TCU special teams’ coordinator-slash-coach Dan Sharp has been named assistant head coach and special teams coach at Louisiana Tech. Bulldogs head coach Sonny Cumbie says Sharp has been in charge of some of the most well-coached, explosive special teams’ units he’s seen.

Cajuns starting running back Chris Smith is questionable for Saturday’s New Orleans Bowl against Marshall. Coach Michael Desormeaux says Smith is dealing with a banged-up knee. He’s rushed for a team-high 855 yards and eight touchdowns this season.

State Police are investigating the fiery crash of a privately owned helicopter this afternoon on the I-10 Bonnet Carre Spillway Bridge outside New Orleans. St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre says calls about the crash came in just after 1 p.m…:

Eastbound I-10 traffic is being re-routed to U.S. 51 and/or U.S. 61. The aircraft was completely destroyed by the fire. So far no word on how many were inside or if any survived.

Congressman Clay Higgins office says the U.S. Representative is resting comfortably today, after what’s described as a “successful surgical procedure” this morning at a hospital in Lafayette. Higgins will spend the next few weeks recovering.
