A Shreveport couple has been arrested for cruelty to a juvenile after their three-year-old child was found severely malnourished and weighing only 11 pounds.  Ietadterneisha Marshall and Derrick George are being held on charges of second-degree cruelty at the Shreveport Jail and the child was taken to the hospital.

Louisiana’s Shot for 100 program has been extended and just in time once the CDC approves the vaccine for five- to 11-year-olds. LDH Assistant Secretary of Health Kim Hood says the program will now run through the end of the month.

A shortage of qualified truckers is the top concern for the Louisiana trucking industry, and a big contributor to national supply chain problems. Renee Amar (AY-mar) Executive Director of the Louisiana Motor Transport Association says data from the American Trucking Association shows just how extreme the problem is on a national scale.

LSU Pennington Biomedical Research Center, along with LSU Health New Orleans and Tulane Health Sciences will take part in a National Institutes of Health study on the impacts of long COVID. Pennington Lead Investigator John Kirwan says COVID causes the body to overact with an inflammatory response to fight off the virus, some more than others.

There are now four state-regulated casinos in Louisiana where legalized sports betting is up and operating. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser cut the ribbon at Boomtown Casino in Harvey Monday, the fourth of the casinos to open its Sportsbook in the Bayou State.

One person is dead following a fatal police shooting yesterday afternoon involving Houma Police officers and a suspect that has yet to be identified publicly. State Police is investigating and L-S-P is expected to release more information later today.

Three Louisiana institutions are taking part in a four-year study on why some people infected with COVID suffer long-term side effects. Brooke Thorington has more.

The state health department has announced the Shot for 100-dollar vaccine incentive program has been extended to November 30th. LMTA Executive Director Rene Amar says lawsuit abuse reform and insurance cost are the other big issues. There’s a new lease on life for Louisiana’s Shot for 100 program that’s meant to further encourage people to get their first COVID-19 vaccine shot. Assistant Secretary of Health Kim Hood says the Louisiana Health Department has extended the program

The 100 is a $100 gift card for those receiving their first shots. And Hood says once the CDC gives approval for five to 11 year-olds to receive the vaccine, they will be eligible too, but require parental consent.

State Police is investigating a fatal police shooting that occurred in Houma yesterday afternoon. Authorities say Houma Police was called to a residence about a disturbance and once they arrived they became involved in an altercation with a man. Police shot the suspect, who died at a nearby hospital. No officers were injured and no word on if the suspect was armed.

A shortage of qualified truckers is the top concern for the Louisiana trucking industry, and a big contributor to national supply chain problems. Renee Amar (AY-mar) is Executive Director of the Louisiana Motor Transport Association (LMTA). She says data just released from the American Trucking Association shows just how extreme the problem is on a national scale…:

Amar says the coronavirus pandemic is also indirectly responsible for a lot of older truckers deciding to retire and quit the road. She says another issue encouraging truckers to stop driving is the high cost of commercial truck insurance and lawsuit abuse. State lawmakers have taken steps toward insurance reform, but the changes made legislatively can take quite a while to be realized…:

Amar says many drivers are quitting the road, yet a new generation of truckers is not stepping up. Louisiana and many states require truckers be at least 21. She says for many high school graduates NOT on a college track, driving can be a quick route to making good money, but the age requirement restricts that.

Amar says the three top issues for Louisiana Trucking are “drivers, drivers and drivers.”

The 100 being a $100 gift card that will be given to those receiving their first shots, at least until the supply of cards last at participating locations.

Hood says that children 5 to 11 years old will also be eligible for the gift cards once the shots are authorized by the CDC with parental consent.

Hood says that when it comes to children receiving the shots, the gift cards to be given out are per person, not per family.

26-year old Blake Bardwell, a correctional officer is now behind bars facing murder charges in the death of his wife and child. Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Glen Springfield says they were called to his Monroe residence just after 1:30 Sunday afternoon and found the two bodies, Bardwell was later arrested and immediately fired from his job.

Governor Edwards is in Glasgow, Scotland for the big Climate Change summit. Speaking at the conference, the Governor says Louisiana is doing its part to address climate change.

The Governor returns to Louisiana Friday.

State Police are investigating 10 crashes that occurred over the weekend that left one or more people dead in each of them. A total of 12 people were killed in the accidents that happened in north, central, and south Louisiana. At least two children lost their lives according to Sgt. James Anderson.

The Saints beat the Super Bowl champion Buccaneers 36-27 yesterday but likely lost starting quarterback Jameis Winston for the season with a knee injury. Trevor Siemian filled in for Winston, but NFL analyst Mike Detillier expects Taysom Hill will be the starting Q-B once he’s cleared to play after suffering a concussion on October 10th…

The third-ranked Crimson Tide are 28.5 point favorites.

Louisiana Tech is on a four-game losing streak after a tough 23-20 loss to Old Dominion. The Bulldogs lost on a 46-yard field goal as time expired. Prior to the game-winning kick, Tech had the ball at the 45-yard line and it was fourth and three. Coach Skip Holtz elected to go for it, but J-D Head’s deep ball down the sideline sailed out of bounds

State troopers are continuing to investigate ten fatal crashes that turned the roads scary across Louisiana over the Halloween weekend. Sergeant James Anderson…:

Twelve persons were killed in car crashes across the state, including two children. Anderson says some were due to impairment, some distracted driving, some persons weren’t properly restrained … most all preventable.

Governor John Bel Edwards is in Glasgow, Scotland for the big COP26 Climate Conference. Speaking to those gathered, Mr. Edwards noted Louisiana’s loss of coastal lands due to natural disasters…:

A Ouachita Parish prison guard is under arrest for allegedly killing his wife and one-year-old daughter on Halloween morning. Ouachita deputies say Blake Bardwell was taken into custody after a preliminary investigation. He’s charged with two counts of 2nd-degree murder and has been fired from his job with the Sheriff’s office.

Brother kills brother in Lincoln Parish. Deputies say a man identified as Robert Warrick, of Dubach, was found stabbed to death. After some investigating they arrested 32-year-old Bradley Warrick as the accused killer. He’s charged with 2nd-degree murder and held in the Lincoln Parish jail.
