Attorney General Jeff Landry is announcing some of the details important to a legal settlement with several pharmaceutical firms over the manufacturing and marketing of opioids.  Louisiana’s share of the 26-billion-dollar agreement is just over 325-million-dollars.  Landry considers this settlement another step towards assisting Louisiana in curbing the damage done by opioids in Louisiana.

Baton Rouge commercial pilot and Navy veteran Luke Mixon is running for Senate in an effort to unseat the state’s junior senator John Kennedy in 2022. Mixon says he’s frustrated with the partisan politics in DC and Louisiana is not getting their fair share of natural disaster assistance. Even though he’s running as a democrat, Mixon says he feels most voters are more concerned with the candidate versus party.

After responding to a residence for a medical emergency Wednesday night police found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Lafayette Corporal Bridgette Dugas says they are now investigating a homicide at the Essie Street home.

The gunshot victim was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Dugas says they are asking for anyone with any information to come forward and assist them with the investigation.

State Police has placed one of its troopers on administrative leave after allegations the trooper was involved in drinking and inappropriate touching of a female LSU band member. A Baton Rouge TV station reports the incident occurred while the trooper was on duty with the band to the Mississippi State game.

If you plan to hunt or fish Sunday or Monday and don’t have a license you need to purchase one before then because the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries website will be undergoing maintenance. The website expects to have things up and working by Tuesday the 12th.

Kennedy says only 23-percent of the new spending in the bill is for actual infrastructure, while the rest of the legislation supports the President’s Green New Deal and welfare spending.

State Police say an L-S-P employee has been placed on administrative leave as they investigate a complaint of alleged misconduct involving an LSU student. WBRZ-TV reports a trooper touched a female member of the band during their trip to Mississippi State in a sexual nature. Drinking was also involved according to the report.

42-year old Mixon was raised in Avoyelles Parish and graduated from the naval academy. He also completed four deployment supporting missions in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. Even though he’s running as a democrat, Mixon says he feels most voters are more concerned with the candidate versus party.

When asked about Senator Kennedy’s lack of support for the infrastructure bill, Mixon says it was a bipartisan bill where 69 senators compromised and developed a plan to help everyone, not just their party.

A state police helicopter crashed in Ascension Parish this afternoon.  The pilot who was the only passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. State Police spokesperson Captain Nick Manale says the pilot experienced mechanical issues while approaching an airstrip in Gonzales.

Healthcare workers in Shreveport and Monroe are taking Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, St Mary Medical Center, and Ochsner LSU Health Monroe to court over mandates by those facilities to be vaccinated. Plaintiff attorney Jimmy Faircloth says the lawsuits request a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction on the Ochsner vaccine mandate.

He says Ochsner’s vaccine mandates are “an unlawful forced choice; not a free choice.”

Louisiana has joined the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s “Race to Zero” campaign. Governor Edwards says investments have already been made in Louisiana by companies looking to develop renewable energy and he says there’s interest in using the Gulf of Mexico to produce wind energy…

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s spokesman Brennan Matherne tells us today that more than five weeks after Hurricane Ida, only about one-third of the debris from the storm has been picked up. It’s one of the frustrations that residents are facing.

Matherne says huge piles of debris along the parish’s highways are still causing issues for residents and motorists.

LSU All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Junior had surgery on his foot and the timetable on when he’ll return to the field is not known. Stingley could be a top five pick in the NFL draft next spring. In a statement released through the school, Stingley says he still wants to finish out the season with his teammates and he’ll do everyting he can to get healthy so that he can play again this year.

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron announced today that starting safety Major Burns will also not play this Saturday against 16th ranked Kentucky. Burns has a foot injury as well. The Tigers are a three-point underdog heading into Saturday’s game as the Wildcats are 5-0 while LSU is 3-and-2. Center Liam Shanahan says the Tigers are not lacking confidence…

History was made this afternoon in Marskville as the first legal sportsbook opened in Louisiana at Paragon Casino. Former Saints wide receiver Joe Horn placed the state’s first official sports bet at 3 PM. The state’s riverboat casinos, land-based casino in New Orleans, and racetracks are also expected to offer sports betting at their facilities in the coming weeks, but they are waiting on approval from the Gaming Control Board. Hurricane Ida has delayed the process.

The Saints are making a change at kicker as they wait for Will Lutz to recover from core muscle surgery. New Orleans has released Aldrick Rosas after missing his last three field goals and signed Cody Parkey. Parkey has kicked for five different teams and has made 85-percent of his field goals during his career.

U-L Lafayette has received a two-million-dollar gift from Iberiabankthat will go towards the renovation of Cajun Field. The donation also gives Iberiabank the naming rights for the new stadium’s West Concourse and Administrative Offices.
