A Schriever man is held on a four-million-dollar bond after a Saturday night shooting on Bull Run Road that left a woman dead and a man wounded. State troopers responding to the scene were fired on as they arrived and 38-year-old suspect Patrick Waddle drove off, wounding one of the troopers.

It wasn’t until early Sunday morning that officers were able to take Waddle into custody and take him to jail.

Corporal Chris Bordelon with the Shreveport Police Department says they aren’t releasing a motive of why 32-year-old Ureka Black allegedly threw her infant son and five-year-old son into the water, which killed the infant.

According to a press release from the Shreveport Police Department, detectives gathered video evidence at the scene while interviewing potential witnesses that proved crucial in identifying the suspect.

The DEA is warning the public that illicitly purchased prescription meds could well be dangerous doses of home-cooked fentanyl and methamphetamine. Drug labs are making the pills so that they look exactly like legitimate doses of OxyContin, Percocet, Vicodin, Xanax and others. Even a tiny amount of fentanyl can be lethal. The DEA says only take meds from a legitimate and prescribed source.

President Biden has approved additional federal funding measures requested by Gov. John Bel Edwards to assist Louisianans with recovery from hurricanes Laura last year and Ida last month. The Governor’s office says Biden approved an increase in the overall federal cost share to 90 percent for FEMA Public Assistance funding.

 

The Shreveport woman accused of throwing two of her three kids off the Cross Lake Bridge Friday – killing one of them – has been extradited back from Texas, where she was arrested. Shreveport Police Corporal Chris Bordelon says 38-year-old Ureka Black faces charges of 2nd-degree murder and attempted murder. She was arrested Friday in Waskom, Texas and is now in jail in Shreveport…:

Trooper Ross Brennan says the injured trooper was treated for head injuries and released from the hospital. Waddle eventually surrendered after fleeing into a wooded area.  The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the initial shooting that left 51-year-old Lisa Eschete dead. Waddle is charged with her murder, attempted first-degree murder and five counts of attempted first-degree murder for shooting at the troopers.

After turning his vehicle into a private drive with troopers in chase, Trooper Ross Brennan says a trooper opened fire as Waddle exchanged gunfire with them and ran into a wooded area.

Waddle was not injured by the trooper’s gunfire.

A Baton Rouge man has been charged in the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter, whose body was found in Mississippi. 30-year-old Phillip Gardner initially told police he awoke from a nap to find the toddler missing. After a search this weekend, she was found in Hancock County. Gardener is charged with unlawful disposal of remains and obstruction of justice. More charges may be pending.

In St Francisville, questions remain unanswered as to why a murder-suicide suspect was able to hide out at his estranged wife’s property for hours before he killed her and then himself, but his ankle monitor never alerted authorities to his whereabouts. 63-year old Marshall Rayburn had a restraining order to stay away from Peggy Rayburn but on September 20th he killed her and then himself.

A 38-year-old Schriever man, Patrick Waddle, is being held on a four-million-dollar bond in Terrebonne Parish after firing into a home on Bull Run Road Saturday night, killing a woman and wounding a man. No word on the motive. Trooper Ross Brennan says Waddle is also accused of firing on troopers as they rushed to the scene, wounding one of them. Troopers fired back as Waddle stopped to flee into a wooded area.

Waddle was taken into custody early Sunday morning without further incident.  Charges against him include the murder of 51-year old Lisa Eschete and the attempted murder of five troopers.

Thanks to a 90-thousand dollar donation from Healthy Blue, students seeking a career in healthcare at a Louisiana Community and Technical College system school can receive either a 250 or 500 dollar scholarship. LCTCS spokesperson Quintin Taylor says the donation can create healthcare access for about one thousand Medicaid members per year per student…

The Saints are back at the team’s training facility in Metairie. They were re-located to Texas because of Hurricane Ida, but still able to start the season with a 2-and-1 record. They will host the winless New York Giants in the Superdome this Sunday.

LSU won its SEC opener over Mississippi State 28-25 on Saturday. The Tigers allowed 371 passing yards, but the Bulldogs gained just 5.5 yards per play. Linebacker Damone Clark had 15 tackles…

Pelicans All-Star Zion Williamson is recovering from foot surgery, but the team believes Williamson will be ready when the regular season starts on October 20th. Zion fractured his foot while working out on his own over the summer.

The U.S. House is scheduled to vote this week on a Senate-approved one-trillion-dollar infrastructure bill. Louisiana Secretary of Transportation Shawn Wilson says the bill will be a boon to Louisiana’s road & bridge needs and he’s encouraged it received bipartisan support in the Senate.

Some schools in Lafourche Parish reopen today for the first time since Hurricane Ida. Lafourche school superintendent Jarod Martin says some schools are still not ready to re-open, so many students will attend classes at a different school…

If you’ve had both doses of the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago and you’re 65 and older, or 18 and older with an underlying health condition, or either work and/or live in a high-risk setting you are eligible. Healthy Blue and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System are offering a scholarship program to help healthcare students complete their degrees. LCTCS Spokesperson Quinton Taylor says even students on a full-tuition scholarship can have difficulty paying for supplies.
