A report by the Advocate alleges Attorney General Jeff Landry, who rails against immigration issues, brought in skilled Mexican laborers on work visas to construct an LNG plant in Cameron Parish. Advocate reporter Bryn Stole says there is no definitive proof Landry broke the law in these dealings, but they did uncover documents indicating his companies may have misled the feds to get access to the visas.

Zoo spokesperson Robyn Lott says they held a vote for what the next name would be, and it raised over 2,000 dollars.

A carjacking suspect is dead after being shot during an altercation with Bossier City Police on Thursday.  State Police is now investigating the incident. Trooper Brent Hardy says A Bossier City permit inspector underwent surgery today after suffering a broken shoulder during the initial carjacking attempt at the hands of the deceased.

Former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is honored at the Baton Rouge Zoo, who named a giraffe after him.  Zoo spokesperson Robyn Lott says of the three choices “Burreaux” was a popular pick.

After filtering through the nominations, zoo officials picked the top three names which also included Romeo and Kiume, which is Swahili for masculine and strong.  Lott says through the voting the zoo was able to raise over $2000.

A Bossier City permit inspector underwent surgery today after suffering a broken shoulder during the initial carjacking attempt at the hands of the deceased.

The inspector had gotten out of the truck when the suspect hopped in and upon trying to stop him, was pushed to the ground, causing the injury.

Nationally, marriage rates have dipped almost eight percent over the decade.  In Louisiana, that number is almost 28 percent.  LSU Health New Orleans clinical psychologist Amy Dickson says that doesn’t necessarily mean there are fewer people in committed relationships as you may find plenty of engaged couples.

Covington Representative Mark Wright files an amendment to consolidate the Governor and Lt. Governor onto one ticket, instead of having voters chose them separately. Louisiana has the 9th worst business tax climate in the nation according to the Tax Foundation’s 2020 report.  Policy Analyst Janelle Cammenga says tax issues aren’t the biggest factor in where businesses chose to locate themselves, but they’re the factor easiest to change at a legislative level.

Webster Parish is welcoming a new manufacturing facility with the arrival of E.I. Williams Industries.   President of the North Louisiana Economic Partnership Scott Martinez says the Canadian company specializing in sound-control equipment such as vent silencers, fan silencers, industrial silencers, and noise enclosures.

The facility will result in 100 new jobs over the next five years.

Covington Representative Mark Wright files an amendment to consolidate the Governor and Lt. Governor onto one ticket, instead of having voters chose them separately.  Wright says for starters, the Lt. Governor’s job is nearly all tourism-related, and it would make for more efficient government if tourism was folded directly into the Governor’s administration.
