In a wild game that featured several big plays, ejections and four touchdown passes from quarterback Joe Burrow, the 11th ranked LSU Tigers ended UCF’s 25-game winning streak with a 40-32 victory. It was Burrow’s best game as an LSU Tiger, despite throwing a pick six in the 1st quarter that gave UCF a 14-3 lead in the first quarter.

Looking back on 2018, Governor John Bel Edwards says one of the issues Louisiana came up short with and hopes to make a priority in 2019 is issues with wages.  Edwards says the gender wage gap in Louisiana is a major concern as women earn about 66 cents on the dollar compared to men performing a similar job.

324 members of the Golden Band from Tigerland are in Glendale today for the Fiesta Bowl game, joining the Fighting Tigers in representing LSU in Arizona. LSU Videographer and former band member Steven Miley, on Talk Louisiana, said when the band takes a big trip like this, it’s all business.

Looking back on 2018, Governor John Bel Edwards says one of the issues Louisiana came up short with and hopes to make a priority in 2019 is issues with wages.  Currently, the minimum wage in Louisiana is set at $7.25 an hour.  Edwards says the last time Congress addressed a minimum wage increase was in 2009 and now the current rate just isn’t a meaningful wage a decade later.

A new report indicates the oyster population continues to struggle along the Gulf Coast.  Coastal and marine conservation director at the Nature Conservatory Seth Blitch says several factors have contributed to the decline in the population such as the oil spill, hurricanes, and a lack of dynamic salinity levels in the water.

A representative is bringing legislation in the upcoming session that would lock in protections for Louisianans with pre-existing conditions and allow dependents to stay on their parent’s plans until 26, even if a pending court case strikes down Obamacare. A Judge in Texas declared the entire ACA unconstitutional. The case is set to be heard next in the New Orleans based 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Plaquemine Representative Chad Brown says he’s confident they could replace federal laws with state protections if Obamacare is struck down.

LSU Videographer and former band member Steven Miley says the band has been practice since Saturday in Arizona for the game, as the LSU band performed alongside the UCF band as part of today’s gameday festivities.

Several new state laws go into effect on this first day of 2019. Serious felony crimes committed now require an unanimous jury verdict for a conviction, instead of 10 of 12 jurors. Families can install video cameras in nursing home rooms to keep an eye on loved ones and boat registration fees are nine dollars higher.

At high noon today, it’s LSU versus Central Florida in the Fiesta Bowl. Both teams say they have a lot to play for. The Knights are looking to extend their winning streak to 26 games and they want to prove to college football fans that they belong with the big boys in the sport. The Tigers are looking for their first 10-win season since 2013 and Coach Ed Orgeron says the seven overtime loss to Texas A-and-M in the regular season finale also serves as motivation in this game…

LSU should have success running the football today. U-C-F allowed 227 yards a game on the ground this season.

In the Mercedes Benz Superdome tonight, fifth ranked Georgia takes on 15th ranked Texas at 7:45.

The Saints first playoff game is not until January 13th and Coach Sean Payton says that gives them time to improve on the fundamentals and techniques. Payton is not happy with how his team performed in Sunday’s 33-14 home loss to Carolina.

Elfrid Payton returned last night after missing 22 games and the Pelicans defeated Minnesota 123 to 114. Payton has only played in seven games this season, but the Pels have won six of them. And New Orleans won last night without Anthony Davis, who was out with an illness. Julius Randle had 33 points and 11 rebounds in A-D’s absence. Darius Miller had a big fourth quarter and finished with 21 points.

In college basketball, the Ragin Cajuns second leading scorer Malik Marquetti will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. The Senior was averaging 15 points a game and shooting 45-percent from three-point territory. The U-S-C transfer hurt his knee in Saturday’s win over Southeastern.
