It’s once again time to be more mindful of school zones and school buses. That’s the message from AAA. Spokesperson Don Redman says it’s crucial for drivers to remember not to pass stopped school buses and that drivers in both directions must stop when on a non-divided roadway.  Not only is it a costly mistake if you get busted, but it becomes a dangerous situation for children.

Swamp pop legend and trumpet player GG Shinn has passed away after a long illness at his home in Monroe. Shinn was 78-years-old. Louisiana Music Hall of Fame executive director Michael Shepherd says Shinn was one of the nicest people in show business and had a great voice…

Online Fantasy Sports legalization will be on the November 6th ballot, giving voters a chance to legalize the use of online services like Draft Kings and FanDuel in their parish. Louisiana Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Jones says the objective is to at least make enough money off the service to pay for its regulations.

That means online fantasy sports will likely not be up and running in Louisiana until the 2019-2020 football season.

Swamp pop legend and trumpet player GG Shinn has passed away after a long illness at his home in Monroe.  He was 78. Shinn had a club in Lafayette.  Last year he performed at Festival International in Lafayette and was a regular at the annual Ponderosa Stomp music festival in New Orleans. Louisiana Music Hall of Fame executive director Michael Shepherd says Shinn was born to entertain

It’s time to get back into the consciousness of school zones and school buses with children returning to class from summer break. That’s the message from AAA. Spokesperson Don Redman says drivers need to prepare themselves for more traffic, with kids on the roadway.

The New Orleans Pelicans will open the 2018-19 season by visiting the Houston Rockets on Wednesday October 17th in a game televised by ESPN. New Orleans will not play on Christmas Day, but they will be a part of the NBA’s lineup on Martin Luther King Junior Day as the Pels will travel to Memphis to face the Grizzlies in a game that will be televised at 4:30 on TNT. The rest of the schedule will be released at a later date.

The Pels have reportedly signed center Jahlil Okafor. The former Duke standout was the number three pick overall in the 2015 draft, but after a good rookie season, he hasn’t lived up to the expectations. In 22-games with the Nets last season, Okafor averaged just six points a game.

Former LSU wide receiver Jarvis Landry was the star of last night’s Hard Knocks episode on HBO. Landry went on a 98-second rant letting his fellow wide receivers on the Browns know that if they are not hurt, they should be practicing.

LSU’s first opponent, the Miami Hurricanes, will be without tight end Michael Irvin the Second, as he’s suffered a torn M-C-L. Irvin is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin. Irvin the Second is expected to miss four months, after catching nine passes for 78 yards last season.

Bad news for the ULM Warhaks, senior cornerback Rhoy Williams has suffered a torn ACL and he’ll miss the upcoming season. Williams played in 12 games last season and had 38 tackles.

Ragin Cajuns Coach Billy Napier says sophomore Levi Lewis and senior Andre Nunez continue to get an equal amount of snaps at quarterback. Napier says a decision on who will start at Q-B could come this week, before they open the season Grambling State on September 1st.

The Saints begin the preseason tomorrow as they visit the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s a big game for running backs Shane Vereen, Terrance West, Boston Scott and Trey Edmunds. The Black and Gold is looking for one of them to step up and fill the void of Mark Ingram, who is suspended for the first four games of the regular season.

A man shot by Shreveport police officers has died. Authorities responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle when the situation escalated and alleged car thief was shot.

And the Natchiotches Sheriff’s office says two young men were were found dead in a vehicle early this morning in Natchitoches. Both men were men shot several times.

Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Jones warns regulating online fantasy sports could be expensive. Jones says they expect not every parish will approve it on the November sixth ballot, so they’ll have to geofence those parishes that don’t allow players to use Fan Duel or Draft King. He says the legislature is expected to come up with a way to tax fantasy sports next year, which can pay for the geofencing…

An Oak Grove police officer has resigned following his arrest on charges of rape on a teenager.  Authorities made the arrest following an investigation stemming from a complaint received in July pertaining to the now former officer. Senior Trooper Michael Reichardt of the LSP confirms the identity of the arrested individual.

A team of LSU Health New Orleans researchers has discovered that even obese women can reduce the chance of passing on active obesity genes to their children by eating healthy during the pregnancy. LSU School of Public Health Professor, Doctor Richard Scribner, says if this is verified, that could make preventing the disease later in kids much easier….

Scribner says they came to their conclusion by studying what woman in the Caribbean country of Grenada ate a diet, rich in healthy foods.

A man is in grave condition after he was shot by a Shreveport police officer yesterday afternoon. Officers were on the scene responding to a call of suspicious vehicle and the situation escalated. Police Chief Alan Crump says multiple shots were fired and the officers took the actions necessary against an alleged car thief.

Louisiana Tech has off from practice today. Bulldogs Coach Skip Holtz says it’s too early to tell if they have another freshman stud on this team. Last year, cornerback Amik Robertson emerged as an one of their top players on defense, leading the team with five-interceptions.

We are waiting on an official I-D from the Orleans Parish Coroner’s office regarding the woman pulled from Lake Ponchatrain. It’s believed that it’s 32-year-old Sadie Thibodeaux who was reported missing after an unmanned sailboat was found Sunday night. The coroner is also expected to give an official cause of death.

A now former police officer in Oak Grove has been arrested on an accusation he raped a teenager. Senior State Police Trooper Michael Reichardt says investigators have determined 27-year-old David Tyler Boyd of Lake Providence had sexual intercouse with a teen after receiving a complaint last month. Reichardt says Boyd was booked on a charge of second-degree rape…

Despite several major hurricanes hitting the area, a new US Census Bureau Report reveals the population along the Gulf Coast has increased almost 25-percent from 2000 to 2016, the fastest growth among coastline regions. Demographer Greg Rigamer says the rebuild after a hurricane provides employment opportunities….
